July Color of the Month Challenge 2026

The color for July is YELLOW. This is a color I don’t seem to use much by itself but I add it as a accent color many times.

Yellow Churn Dash Quilt Blocks

I continued making the Churn Dash quilt blocks using my leftover batiks from my Island Batik ambassador quilt projects. I used a mixture of batiks and cotton quilting fabrics. I do this quite often. The white is a premium muslin.

This is a fast and easy quilt block to make.

Trimming the Half Square Triangle Quilt Blocks

I normally say I’m not a perfectionist but….I do like my HSTs (half square triangles) to be “perfect”. I always make them a little bigger and then trim to the correct size.

I bought a set of Lori Holt’s 5 piece Trim-It rulers and use them all the time to square up my quilt blocks.

The only time I don’t do that is if I am using my Accuquit and a HST die.

Morning Glory quilt blocks for the July Color Challenge

I am continuing to make a couple of Morning Glory quilt blocks also.

You can find the free block pattern here.

Kitty Blocks

I always loves showing a photo of what the block sections would look like this way. Can you see the kitties? Just add some eyes.

No Quilt Police in my Quilt Studio

I have been making folded corner quilt blocks for years and years and I still seldom make a perfect one.

You can iron a fold or I prefer to draw a line with a Frixon marker. I hope you can see that I stitched my line just a hair to the right of the line so account for the folded fabric. If I had stitched right on the line, my white square probably wouldn’t cover completely.

When folded my white square is a little big. I will trim it off and continue with my piecing.

Are my corners perfect? No, but I’m okay with that.
