Are you ready for the color of the month? I had quite a few people say they were interested and hopefully you’ll have fun.

January Color of the Month Challenge 2026
For January I thought Teal would be a great color and it is one of my favorites.

Fabrics I may use
I have a huge stash of fat quarters and here are a few I picked out. I’m not sure what I’ll make or if I will use them.

Teal Batiks
It is no surprise that I have lots of teal batiks from being an Island Batik ambassador so don’t be surprised if some of them show up in my quilt project.

I also have this stack of 10-inch squares called Under the Sea from Island Batik that would be great to use.

Coordinating Colors
You don’t have to make a quilt block or project with just teal. There are many colors that coordinate very well with teal.
I enjoy working in Midjourney to create beautiful images like this in my post.

10-inch Churn Dash Quilt Block
Need an idea of what to make? Here is the Churn Dash quilt block shown in 3 colors. It would also be neat using teal and a coordinating color.
Download a PDF of the directions to make the quilt block.

Linky Party
- I will have this Linky Party open all month.
- Whenever you finish your color challenge you may add a image.
- You don’t have to have a website URL, you can leave that blank.
- At the end of the month a winner will be picked, more info on this soon.

Good morning. I can’t find the link for leaving the block photo. Thanks, Rita
Thank you for the pattern and color of the month challenge.
Will all the blocks from the year go together to be a quilt?
I’m not sure but that is a good idea.
Hi BP! Recently I moved away from matchy matchy stuff. My plan is to make a block a month and then put them all together at the end of the year. I haven’t decided on what blender color I will use yet. It’s going to be like a sampler quilt. 🙂
Good luck and I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.
Sherry
Hi Sweet Connie: You certainly do stay busy my friend. I love all colors blue and especially teal. You are such a wonderful inspiration even though I don’t quilt. I always love following what you are creating.
Happy Healthy New Year 2026.
Hugs, Sherry
Thank you Sherry and also thank you so much for the beautiful Christmas card. I am so sorry I didn’t email you about it. Your painting is always so beautiful.
Well this sounds fun too! A UFO challenge and a color challenge all in one year. Would be nice if I could find a UFO in the color of the month… two birds, one stone. Does that make me a lazy linky lady? HAHA!
That works!

RE: Color per Month BOTM project
I am unable to Register on Mister Linky, it keeps asking me for a Blog name which I don’t have one. If I leave the space blank, it erases my password and errors out. Can you help me?
Thank you.
Hi Kathy, I had trouble with that Linky app and removed it. I have a different up InLinkz which is easier (hopefully) to use. You will link up when you make something using Teal, the color of the month. Hope this helps.
What a great combo! My bridesmaid dresses were that color! (about a 100 years ago!)
Been watching TV all day and all the parade colors and festivities of the new year!!!!! Hope you have a wonderful New Year!
Looks like a fun way to delve into your stash
Connie – I posted the link to this page to my quilt guild’s Facebook group. We have almost 200 members, I’m hoping some will join in the color block fun! 🙂
Thanks, I hope some will join!
I love your color of the month plan Connie! I have a lot of teal fabrics in the stash – can’t wait to start!
Looking forward to see what you create!
Do I understand correctly that the churn dash block is just a suggestion but any block or project you make with teal will qualify in the challenge?
Hi Kathleen, yes the Churn Dash block is just a suggestion. Make whatever you like.
I have alot of favorite colors, but teal has definitely always been at the top of my list. I can’t decide whether to begin the block as a placemat or save it for the sampler. I’ll let that thought simmer.
I make lots of placemats as we use them all the time.
