Teal String Applique Flower Block
12½” x 12½” quilt block
When I was making my mosaic for the month of February I saw that Angela at soscrappy had listed the Rainbow Scrappy color for March. The color is called either teal or aqua, I usually go with teal and I decided to make a teal string applique flower block.
My scrap box only had a few narrow strips of teal so I had to raid my fat quarters. I love teal…..hmmmm….I seem to say that with all colors!
I made another one of my string flower blocks and then added a border of HSTs. I have had several people ask about a pattern and I hope to have it done by next Saturday showing several different ways to cut the HSTs.
For my Rainbow Scraps I decided to use my AccuQuilt and the GO Value die – this die comes free with the GO but not with the GO Baby. I actually bought my GO on Ebay and didn’t get any dies with it so I bought this die.
It cuts 2 inch squares, half square triangles (HSTs) and 4 inch squares (finished sizes). As you can see I am just cutting the HSTs so I cut my fabric into 3 ½ inch strips and then fold the fabric to cover the section of the die I want to cut.
The dog eared corners make it very easy to use. I am using my vintage 15-91 Singer sewing machine, it is my favorite!
Last month I did the pink block and in January I did a larger one in blue. I have decided for now that I like the smaller block. I haven’t finished the applique on the flowers yet….hopefully I’ll get that done by next week.
I need to pull out all the blocks that I made last year for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, I know I have Crossroads block and tutorial and string spools I haven’t done anything with so far.

These are so cute and I love that you are using strings with them. With them being different sizes will they go into the same project? Looking forward to the answer.

I'm loving that you are using the colour of the month to frame your string centres. The stylized flower centres are so cute. Are you hand or machine appliqueing?
