Monday Happenings 4

Last week I had fun quilting several things. Now I need to write a couple patterns, make a tutorial and share them.

Breezy Mini Scattered

Did you see the Mini Scattered quilt on the back of my longarm? I just finished it yesterday.

I used 5-inch squares of Breezy by Island Batik that I got from Missouri Star Quilt Co. I’ll be sharing this soon.

Quilting On A Domestic Sewing Machine

This is how I have my vintage 15-91 Singer sewing machine setup. I have two Ikea cabinets on the left side and another wider one on the right side that holds all of my thread, notions and other things. The links are for cabinets that are similar to mine. Having roller feet on them is wonderful!

I also have two folding tables behind my machine to support the weight of a quilt when quilting. This really, really makes a difference.

I still find it easier to quilt small quilts on this machine instead of loading them on the longarm so I did two quilts on it this week.

Giant Cherry Tomato Plant

We have a giant cherry tomato plant that is loaded! I have never seen a plant this big.

Tomato Sizes

We are finally picking tomatoes in our garden. The big one was planted from seed and is a heritage tomato. It tastes good but the center is a little pulpy.

The cherry tomatoes are from the bush I showed and those teeny tiny tomatoes are from a plant I started from seed. I have no idea where they are so small!

Rusty and Tasha

Rusty had a friend over for the week. This is Tasha, my daughter’s dog. Both dogs pretty much ignore each other but get along. She went home last night.

Dog Ramp

Rusty was having trouble jumping up on the bed so we bought a DoggoRamp for him. It took several days and tiny bites of hot dog to get him to go up and down the ramp. It was actually when Tasha was here that he would go up without a treat. I think he was showing off. I’m so glad he is using it now.

  1. I love your studio! 🥰♥️ Terry
PS. Your quilts are awesome as usual! 😁💕

  2. Jean Erichsen says:

    Loved all your quilts!

  3. That’s a great setup for your Singer. The extra support makes such a difference. Your tomatoes are incredible! That’s a huge plant.

  4. Hi, Love the inspiration you share. And Rusty is a sweetie. Just a short note about quiltkeeper. I get their ads in my email. A couple weeks ago they sent one with them using the quiltkeeper as a holder for a wall hanging. It was a cute! I asked about the fabric, who the designer was and they told me it was cotton! OK, not the question. You can tell they aren’t quilters! Have a good day!

  5. Robyn from Australia says:

The stacks baby quilt you’ve shown is exactly what I want to make. It has such lovely colour combinations and the different shaped pieces are lovely for this design. Well done Frances !! (my second name)
I have some of the required fabrics but will buy more from my local supplier today.
Thanks for another great project which I am sure lots of your followers will want to make.

  6. What a tomato plant! I like those tiny tomatoes. The quilts are beautiful. It is so fun to see other’s projects. Rusty is so adorable and so special to get the dog ramp!

  7. Brenda @ Songbird Designs says:

You were busy, Connie! Glad to see Rusty using his ramp now! How fun! We have a bench at the end of our bed that Chloe uses to get on the bed when she wants. She often times decides we move too much and decides to sleep there! LOL Have a great week!

PS: That is one HUGE tomato plant!! I hope they are tastier than the heirloom you mentioned. I haven’t had a really good tomato yet this year. I’m thinking about trying to plant one and use copper and try electroculture. From what I’ve read it’s amazing for plants!

  8. That is one HUGE cherry tomato plant. Wow! When my Baxter broke his front leg (someone dropped him), the surgeon said no jumping off the couch so I had to get him doggie stairs. He learned to use them with a cast on his little leg! Miss Bailey will use them to get on the couch, but she jumps off once she’s up there. Silly girl. Once I forgot to put the stairs in the camper and both of them looked at me and then looked at the bed like “Where’s the stairs?!” LOL

This is another recommendation from http://www.officechairsusa.com
I just recently purchased two of these and they are very comfortable as sewing chairs. They are currently on sale.

  10. I forgot to mention that I have several of the IKEA Alex units, the wider one, for rulers, threads, embroidery hoops, and various notions. These fit under my cabinet arms and are easy to move around with attached casters. I may get some of the taller ones for narrower spaces. These are EZ to put together. Maybe you can get us a discount link for Ikea!

  11. Enjoy seeing all your beautiful projects and gardening ones also.
The EZ to make Autumn Table Topper could be made for any season by changing the fabrics used.
Rusty is used to being an “only child”, so probably doesn’t appreciate Tasha stealing the limelight. The dog ramp is great. For some reason, our dog is reluctant to use one also. May have to try the hot dog treats!
Blessings to you and your family, and Rusty.

  12. Just finished a quilt last night and so this was so welcome – so many choices for the next quilt! Love the ramp! I’m going to measure but looks like there is just enough room on the far side of the bed for Indie. Looks like Butterfly Cage is next up! Thanks for all the great pics and hugs to the puppers!

  13. Linda Jennings says:

What is that quilt pattern on the front of the long arm, the one with 5 squares patches and a frame around it in dark blue? Something easy and fast enough for donation quilts. Do you have a pattern for that.
I love that cherry tomato plant! I thought mine was big untill I saw yours. My pepper plants are about 3 feet tall. I never had them get so big. My plants are all in raised beds on my deck.

  14. I agree he was showing off and saying this is my territory. Now you can cut the treats. 🙂
