Easy Batik Table Topper Tutorial
15 inches x 22-1/2 inches
This has to be one of the easiest quilt projects to make! This would be a fun project to make in many different color groups and also would make a fast and easy gift to share!
Batik Fabrics
I never seem to get tired of making table toppers….especially out of batiks. I had a little bundle of batiks from Island Batik and I decided to do a quick and easy project with them.
Easy Batik Table Topper Tutorial
- Cut (18) 3″ x 8″ rectangles of assorted colors
- Use a 1/4 inch seam allowance when stitching
- Sew (3) rectangles together on the long side
- Press seams to one side
Each quilt block will measure 8″ x 8″ unfinished to give you a finished quilt block of 7-1/2-inches.
Make 6 Blocks
Make (6) quilt blocks.
Arrange Blocks
Rotate some of the blocks as shown below.
Sew Rows Together
- Sew (3) quilt blocks together
- Repeat this so you have 2 rows of 3 quilt blocks
- Sew the (2) rows together
Save this for later!
Don't worry, I promise not to spam you.
Quilt the Table Topper
Cut a backing fabric that is a couple of inches bigger than the table topper
- Backing fabric – 1/2 yard
- Batting – 15 inches x 22-1/2 inches
Quilt as desired, I decided to do a simple free-motion stitch with some loops.

Binding
- Hopefully you have a bit of fabric in your stash that can be used for the binding. Otherwise you will need 1/4 yard or a fat quarter.
- Add binding – cut (2) 2-1/2 inch strips width of fabric

Hi Connie, I would like to get the Batik Table Topper 15″ x 22 1/2 ” place mate pattern. I don’t know how to do that. Can you send it to me or explain how I can download it? I love the green colors you used.
Love it! So simple and cute! Bet this would be great for quilt as you go, too, for a beginner sewist. Hope your new year is healthy and happy!
I love the decorative stitching for quilting on small projects!
Thank you so much for your generousity in sharing so many lovely patterns!
Love keeping up with your fur babies too! Prayers for Rusty’s eyes!
This is a great project to make in the green tones or any other colour combinations. Lovely for home decor or gifts and quick to make.
Thanks, Connie, for kicki-starting 2023 with a “must make table topper”.
Love the simplicity of this – and the quilting is so lovely! Took a breather yesterday and made one of the folded squares quilt fabric ornament. Never seem to get the “Ornament of the Year” done BEFORE Christmas. It’s okay – it’s still 2022! for another couple hours! Hugs to the puppers. Happy New Year!
You design very nice table runners. How about some table toppers – 34″ x 34″ size.
Speaking for myself, I have many of your runners, now some lovely topper would be appreciated.
Thank you

Another pretty topper Connie.
I snickered when I read Michele's comment above because I thought to myself, "I bet Connie could change toppers twice a day and still have more to use" LOL
Easy and quick…sometimes exactly what we need! Thanks Connie.

Very pretty with the greens, a quickie rail fence, always good to use up the leftovers!
All those leafy batiks look so pretty done up like that with the potted plants!
I like making table toppers too. They are quick and easy and you can use so many different fabrics with them. Yours turned out very pretty. 🙂
Beautiful Batiks to make a lovely table topper. I like the quilting you have done on this too.
I'm betting that you could change your table toppers practically every day to show off a different one. 🙂
Those strips really make a nice finish. Great colors.
Table toppers have become my favorite as well!
Nice. I like making table toppers too. A great quick gift and a way of trying out new techniques/quilting designs
Very nice!
