Quilt projects for August
This post may contain affiliate links which won’t change your price but will share a commission.I wanted to share a few quilt projects I’m working on and also this precious wall hanging that I received in the mail from another quilter. Mr. Mickey passed away in February, this photo is the first one I ever took after we adopted Mr. Mickey, and has always been my favorite. Stacia printed it out along with this sweet poem and made this beautiful memory quilt for me. Thank you, Stacia!
Quilt projects for August
I still need to finish the quilt pattern for the Four Patch quilt, I forgot all about it!
Diamond in a Square dog photo quilt
I finished the quilt with the dog photos. Here is the quilt before I washed it. I quilted it on my 15-91 vintage Singer sewing machine.
I forgot to wash the photo blocks
After you print on the fabric, you remove the backing and then heat set the photo. Then you are supposed to wash the photo to help remove some of the sizing. I forgot to do this and when I tried to quilt on the photo, my thread kept skipping stitches.
I went ahead and washed the quilt making sure I had a Shout Color Catcher in with it and used cold water.
After washing it, the size is 33″ x 48″
When you use an inkjet printer, the ink sits on top of your fabric. It was still a little tough to quilt through so I just stitched around each dog.
Save this for later!
Don't worry, I promise not to spam you.
More Diamond in a Square quilt projects
I used to have a roundup post of quilt projects and there was a beautiful placemat made with the Diamond in a Square quilt block but the tutorial is no longer available. After several people told me that, I removed it from my post. I finally decided to make a placemat that is similar.
I pulled out my AccuQuilt GO Big and the 4-inch Qube, this was the first time I have used my Accuquilt Electric GO Big since we moved! It sure makes it fast and easy to cut these tiny blocks.
I made several blocks and now I have decided I should have used the 8-inch Qube set for larger quilt blocks or maybe the 6-inch Qube set. I’ll be experimenting soon.
As soon as I finish this, I’ll share the tutorial. I cut enough pieces for 8 Diamond in a Square quilt blocks so I used the 3 that were leftover for a mug rug.
I am using my leftover batiks from my Summer Picnic quilt. Aren’t those cute dragonflies?
Hot Temperatures
It has been hotter than usual here in Iowa. We are going to hit 100 degrees for the next couple of days which isn’t normal for us. School starts Wednesday and it always seems to be hot when that happens.
I am so grateful to have air conditioning, Bob is almost done adding his air conditioning/heating unit to his man cave/garage.
While I was taking photos of my quilt this morning, Rusty kept an eye on me. One of these days I’ll get a photo of him with his ears perked up.

If I send a picture of my dog, can you make a square for me to use in a quilt?
What a lovely memory quilt and I love the picture quilt too. Our dear Airedale Terrier, Treacle, passed away last year aged 14 and I want to do a quilt of her but have been busy with other things. It is on my To Do list. We in the UK have also had hot temperatures which is not like us, but we also seem to have glorious weather when the children go back to school!!!! It has turned a little cooler over the last two weeks and we are definitely heading into Autumn now. Have a wonderful weekend. Susie
What a thoughtful idea to make the memory quilt for you. And it is a quite lovely.
Beautiful tribute of your Beloved Mr Mickey. Rusty looks so content to be helping you too. Stay cool – I don’t envy you with this heat as we are finishing up our move from Llano to Midlothian Tx. Too hot and no rain…
Blessings
What a special little remembrance of Mr. Mickey. I love your diamond in a square placemat and mug rug.
Beautiful quilt with Mickey’s picture and poem! I love Rusty’s smile! What a darlin boy! Xo Rusty!
I agree with Denise. Rusty looks like he is smiling.
What a sweet gift, and cute, too. I only have the 12 inch block set.
What a cute quilt with Mr. Mickey! How sweet of Stacia to make it for you. Your four patches quilt is beautiful! and the doggie quilt is very cute, too! You always use such beautiful fabrics and colors in your quilts.
The dog quilt is so adorable! It’s supposed to be 100F+ heat index here Wed and Thur. Too HOT!!

Rusty is so cute and you can tell he loves and trusts you! It’s nice to have a buddy to keep you company while quilting and someone to model your finished projects. Thank you for sharing your tutorials and happenings with us!
Love the wall hanging a thoughtful reader made for you. What a beautiful memory to have. I’m so glad you showed us the completed dog quilt. It’s adorable and turned out very nice. I have to agree with everyone else. That picture of Rusty is so sweet. It does look like he’s smiling!!
Love the quilt of Mr. Mickey – you are so kind to share these with us. Looks like Rusty knows he is in the right place. I got bogged down with a neck-tie quilt – too time consuming. Ready to make the above 4 patch. And absolutely love the colors!!!!!
Thanks, stay cool!
That is such a cute picture of Rusty. He looks like he is smirking:)
Rusty is so darn cute !! His little face & coloring are so close to our little dachshund, Lola.

What a wonderful thoughtful thing to do ! I’m making something similar for a friend …with all her cats names (passed & present) embroidered throughout …fun to surprise someone !

Rusty is such a sweet soul. Thanks for brightening up my day.
Love the quilt in honor of Mr Mickey. That was a wonderful gesture. Rusty’s eyes look great. So happy he is doing so well. Thanks for the reminder to wash the photo blocks. Outlining the pups was a great solution. I appreciate you and enjoy reading your blogs.
