Hopscotch Quilt without Borders
This post may contain affiliate links which won’t change your price but will share a commission.Hopscotch Quilt without borders is my latest finished quilt, this one is without borders and the size is 48″ x 60″ which is a great size for a lap quilt.
I have updated the Hopscotch quilt pattern and there are now directions for 4 different sizes. This is a fun quilt to make using 2-1/2 inches strips or 2-1/2 inches squares from your quilt stash.
Hopscotch
I designed the Hopscotch quilt in 2015 for using Island Batik fabrics. While it was at quilt market I made it again with cream as the main color. This is a great quilt pattern for 2-1/2″ strips. I think the second quilt had a smaller border.
I quilted it using my Nolting longarm. I am getting more comfortable with it. I had fun making “not perfect” loops on the background fabric and then just some simple meandering on the squares.
I had four yards of this turquoise batik and used it for the backing. I have enough leftover to make a table runner. Maybe I should make a Hopscotch tablerunner.

Rusty in the snow
We have received almost 23 inches of snow in the last few days. Last year Rusty wanted nothing to do with the snow, this year he is nose-diving into it! He is so cute!
Can you see all the birdseed on the patio? I have been going out 3 or 4 times a day to clear spots off and fill the feeders and check on the heated water.

Hi Connie!
Twenty three inches of snow in the last few days? Wow! That reminds me of when I lived in South Bend many years ago! I absolutely love the picture of Rusty sitting in your home with a bit of snow on him. You should frame that one, it’s a keeper! Rusty is something else! Can’t wait to see pictures of your new home project.
Have fun!
Priscilla
A friend shared this-Batiks are good to bleed color-place similar colors together and PREWASH using 1/2 cup of Dawn and enough water to cover the fabric, simmer at 140 degrees for about 20 min. (This worked for a navy the bleed onto the white as I tried to get the blood out-stuck my finger. ) Then pour the warter out and rinse. I did a batik quilt and treated all using this method, hit it with a lot of starch to iron. Kept it from slipping.
Now that I have your Hospcotch quilt pattern I am on the hunt for bright fabrics for the small squares. Where you have the white or black strips, I found some silver fabric with blue and white tinges intermingled. I think this will be perfect and quite different.
I’m so fortunate that East Coast Fabrics store is only a 10 minute drive from where I live. They have a huge selection of quality patchwork fabrics, backings and battings. Distant patch-workers arrive in bus-loads to stock up on all the latest offerings at this great store.
Thanks for sharing this amazing design.
Very best wishes to you, Bob and Rusty for a happy and healthy year in 2024.
Love this Hopscotch pattern!! Thank you Connie.
Dianne
I feel cheated – we got less then 2 inches of snow! Indie still enjoyed the snow and the walk for a short time, but was picking up her paws so let her lay on my coat while I cleaned the sidewalk! Still muscling through the neck tie quilt. What ever made me think it would be easy!?!? Got the peices cut, interfacing on the back, and trimming but geeze-louise, I’m so tired of looking at this! I want to do a pretty quilt!
He looks like a very happy, contented puppy now!!!
Rusty has little feet like my dog. I do know you love your dog and take caof him well, but in this snowy weather my dog gets snow packed in the palm of each foot. In big dogs their pads keep the snow out. Not so in our little dogs. You are so cute Rusty.
We’ve got several inches and temps below 10 here in lower Michigan. My dog used to love running her nose through the snow! She and her brother were both Norwegian Elkhounds and they absolutely loved the snow. Your pattern is neat and looks great in batiks.
Hi Connie,
WoW Snow, Rusty looks very happy 😃
In Australia we have Heat Hot Muggy weather, atm. Don’t like going out in the heat much, and I’m not an early riser, so l can get things done🥴. L haven’t made any of your quilts yet, but hopefully this year l will get the scattered one done, dealing with back pain, can’t sit too long. Hopefully when l get my other hip replacement it will be a lot better, hurts getting up off the sewing chair, well any chair….
Ok stay warm and take care
Regards Lisa
Love the hopscotch quilt!! And Rusty…he is so happy being part of your family!! Maybe he needs some booties when he goes outside in the snow…my little girl hates rain/snow/cold, but her thin little legs don’t have much fur so she gets cold easily. I know Huskies have thick fur on their paws which keeps their pads off the cold. So, are you sure you have finished moving?? Is this house the third or fourth in four years??
Super cute design, which is definitely on my bucket list.
Connie,
Another beautiful masterpiece. Wonderful way to use up scraps. I’m getting this pattern from you.
Cute pictures of Rusty. You got a LOT of snow. Please be careful shoveling!
I love your hopscotch pattern. It’ so versatile. You just never cease to amaze me with all of your quilty creativity. Thanks also, for your pictures of Rusty. He truly is amazing too. He always looks so happy in all of his pictures. I’m so glad you were able to take him in and give him a loving home.
The quilts are beautiful Connie. Keep up the good work.
Rusty is so handsome and lucky to have you!
Stay warm you two!
Oh my 23″ of snow, that is a lot at once! I don’t blame Rusty for not wanting to go out long!! Nice work on the Hopscotch update.
Your Hopscotch pattern is very pretty. I favor the black one. Thank you for sharing the pictures of Rusty having fun in the snow. He’s such a cute guy. He’s playing like a puppy! He’s having his very best life since becoming a Campbell! So glad he is part of your family! Thank you for sharing your quilting, expertise, and wonderful Rusty!
Thanks for this lovely design, Connie. I’ll be making a quilt for my bedroom and the Hopscotch quilt is within my capabilities. I’ll get the PDF instructions and start planning the colour combinations.
Rusty seems to love being in the snow. He’s quite adventurous and very photogenic. He looks like he’s been modelling for years.
I’m sure 2024 will be a very happy and productive year for you. Being an Ambassador again will be a challenge I’m sure you will enjoy.
Take care and stay warm.
