I am taking part in the Bella Skill Builder Quilt designed by Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life for Fat Quarter Shop and this is the Bella Skill Builder QAL Orange Peel Block.

Each month on the first a new free block pattern and video will be posted on the Jolly Jabber from February through November.

Fat Quarter Shop also has a FAQ page which is where you can find the free pattern each month and also see the total yardage in case you want to use different fabrics or colors.

Visit the Fat Quarter Shop Jolly Jabber to read more about the Bella Skill Builder QAL, grab your free pattern, and also check out the other blogs of quilters that are making the Bella Skill Builder blocks.

This is the second block made with two different sizes of Orange blocks.

I used the same fabrics that are listed in the pattern – Peach, Raspberry, and Caribbean plus White of the Bella solids.

I used the Orange Peel Impressions templates which made it very easy to cut out the orange peel shapes.  If you don’t have the templates there are free templates in the pattern that you can trace and use.

I used Heat n Bond Lite fusible adhesive and then did a free-motion applique around the orange peels.

I am also working on the Goldie quilt that uses the Orange Peel set of Impressions. I just need to get it quilted.

This is what I have on my design wall for the Bella Skill Builder so far. This is only the second month so there is plenty of time to work on this quilt along, I hope you join me!

Fat Quarter Shop has a Bella Skill Builder kit available that includes the patterns and fabric for the top and binding. The quilt will be 66.5″ x 88.5″ which is a nice size.

  1. These blocks look really complicated with the curves. There is a batik blue fabric in your Goldie quilt that is making me swoon! Love seeing everything you create dear. <3

  2. I’m going to have to get with the program, but i have another project to add to my UFOs and “get ‘er done now” projects. This is the latter–a fidget quilt for an Alzheimer’s patient. I really like all of your blocks! Kaleidoscope quilts are one of my favorites, then you add the orange peel, and I’m hooked! Your quilts are beautiful and inspiring!
