It is my Monday Happenings 19 in my studio and I want to share what I’m working on. I hope you had a great week and were able to do some quilting.

Strippy Spools QAL

Yesterday I pulled out my jelly roll and fabrics for the Strippy Spools Quilt Along. This QAL is with Fat Quarter Shop and even though it doesn’t start until May , I am using the Strippy Spools quilt pattern.

I am going to use the Berry Market Rolie Polie by Beverly McCullough and also some of her matching fabrics. This is going to be so cute and you should join me.

Floral Arrangement

I did something on Saturday that I have never done! My daughter Kimberly and I took a class on flower arranging and also making a beautiful floral card at Taylor Expressions here in Ankeny, Iowa. It was so much fun and there were quite a few mother/daughters that took part.

I followed the instructions and actually made a beautiful floral arrangement! This is a first for me.

Before we did that, we made a beautiful card and of course I had to buy everything so I can make more like it.

Scrappy Baby Quilt

I have many quilt tutorials that you may have missed as they are old and I thought it would be fun to share another one.

This was the baby quilt I made that became my River Scraps quilt pattern. It was a great way to use up some of my old fabrics in my stash. I can see some of the clothes I made for myself and my daughter. It has been years since I made clothes.

Here is the River Scraps Baby Quilt post and tutorial.

Would you believe that I originally made this in 2013. The size is 38″ x 45″.

Gardening

Today we are going to run to Menard’s for some mulch, suet and peanuts for the squirrels and blue jays. My flower bed in the front needs a little work to get rid of the sunflower seeds that sprout under the feeders.

Can you see the little squirrel that is wondering why I’m bothering him?

Raised Beds

Last year we put raised beds in our backyard which makes it so easy to garden. We have several tomato plants including my favorite cherry tomatoes and then some brussel sprouts. Do you remember how big the cherry tomato plant got last year? The raised bed on the right has several of those plants and I’m hoping for lots of cherry tomatoes as they were so good.

Last Years Cherry Tomatoes

Here is what my plant looked like last year! That was in July of last year and looking at my post, that is when we bought the bed ramp for Rusty!

  1. Wow!! Rusty looks so good. I love the ramp to the bed. Your card and flower arrangement are beautiful. You are so talented. At some point, I’m going to make the baby blanket. It looks so bright and cheery. I’m jealous of how green everything is. We are still experiencing snow here and there. Maybe in June we will have green grass.

Your flower arrangement was beautiful. I like the baby quilt pattern and as always I love seeing Rusty.

  3. Connie, I love your flower arrangement. Wow!

    Sweet Rusty!
    Your flower arrangement is beautiful!

  5. Your floral arrangement and card are both beautiful. That sounds like a great day out with your daughter. I’m looking forward to seeing this year’s garden at your house. I hope the tomatoes are as productive as they were last year. The nights have finally warmed up enough here for the peppers and tomatoes to set fruit. I can’t wait to taste that first summer tomato.

  6. Time to garden again. I hope you have many cherry tomatoes to enjoy. Home grown tomatoes are the best!! Your floral arrangement is beautiful!! You did good. Maybe you could recreate it with silk flowers!!

Awesome flower arrangement and card–it’s fun to create pretty things out of different media! I like your raised beds for veggies–your cherry tomato plant last year was huge! Have a great week.

  8. You could leave the plants to grow the sunflowers, it’s fun to watch the birds fly in and out picking the seeds from the flowers. My birds plant their next year crop, for me.

  9. What a beautiful flower arrangement and card. I have also recently started making cards and was inspired by my daughter in law. Such fun!

  10. What a gorgeous card and flower arrangement! And a fun time spent with your daughter too. I can totally understand why you would want to make more of that card. So pretty! One of my daughters and I are doing a cooking class together at the end of May. I’m really looking forward to it.

Your flower arrangement looks amazing Connie! We have been doing lots of yard work lately and I need to make a trip to the Amish greenhouse to get flowers and a tomato plant.

  12. Wow!! I love the floral arrangement and card. They are so beautiful. Great job for your first time flower arranging. Also, what a huge cherry tomato plant. I’ve never seen one get that big. That’s amazing!! That must have been one happy plant to grow that large.
