Honey Drift Quilt

I really enjoyed using my UFO quilt blocks that I made several years ago to make this quilt and I’m happy to say that it is Rusty approved.

Original Quilt Blocks

My March quilt UFO was #5, there were 70 half square triangles and a couple yards the tan fabric that I used as the background fabric. Someone suggested making quarter square triangles with them which I thought was a great idea.

Quarter Square Triangles

Making some of the quilt blocks into quarter square triangles meant that the half square triangle blocks needed to be cut down to the same size. My 7-inch blocks became 4½-inch blocks.

Wool Batting

I used a wool batting and my quilting wasn’t dense so it really has a nice puffy look to it.

Quilt Size 44 x 44

I was able to use all of my quilt squares. This would be a great pattern to use your scraps for and my family really likes the tan background fabric. What do you think?

  1. Beautiful! What a great way to showcase all the fabrics!!!!! Thanks! (from rainy, thunder, lightning Chicago!) Wish I could find a pattern that copied the lightning shapes!

  2. Hi Connie! Your Honey Drift is lovely! Great way to use those UFO HSTs! You are really doing well on your UFO list! Spring seems to be teasing us this year! We had a lovely warm 73 Saturday and then back to winter coats Sunday.

  3. Love the tan. The triangle pops of color are so pretty and I love the wool batting. I have used it a couple times and really like it for light weight warmth. Washes beautifully.

Honey Drive is a lovely new design. I love it. And, I’m die cutting scraps today in HST. I wonder if I will have enough to make this. Right now I’m just trying to use up a big pile of scraps. I think they’ve been mating, as I can’t explain how the pile of scraps has grown so big.

  5. That looks great. I love the tan background color as it has such warmth to it. The wool batting is perfect for it.

  6. Your HST blocks turned into a beautiful quilt! It inspires me to try that with my collection of triangles…maybe next months project. I just need to bind my UFO before the month ends.

  7. I love what you did with all those half square triangles such a pretty quilt.

  8. Sheryl Harrison says:

The colors in the quilt are perfect for Rusty’s photo.

  9. I really like this pattern. Using both half- and quarter-squared triangles is a good idea. I have a lot of bright colored fabrics in my stash and am thinking of using those in a baby quilt for a new great-granddaughter who is on the way. Babies need bright colors and they will look great in this pattern.

  10. Love the Honey Drift pattern and the fabric you used. I like star quilts and also fall-color fabrics.
Your 90 degree Saturday came East on Sunday. Since it was not humid, the 91 temp was nice. I do prefer 70’s a lot more though.
Waiting for the Easter storm that my Grandmother always said would come. With the recent “weird” weather not sure we would recognize.

    1. Thanks Beverly, I still can’t believe winter may be over but I’ve seen snow storms in April. Luckily they don’t last.

  11. Such a pretty quilt and a very good way to use extra blocks. You use such pretty fabrics.

Hello! We had 96 here Saturday! I’m a summer lover and loved it, just a tease. I started a quilt called a zipper pattern. Not sure if ill keep it for give away. Have a great week.

    1. I’m not a summer heat lover but I have a feeling we will get plenty of it this year. Zipper pattern…..sounds interesting!
