March Mid-month Check-in

I thought I would share a March Mid-month Check-in and let you know how I’m doing on my March UFO challenge. Don’t forget to add your March UFO to my Linky Party and enter the giveaway.

March Mid-month Check-in

Number 5 UFO

My pick for March was #5 which was a group of about 70 half square triangle (HST) quilt blocks that I made a long time ago. I also had about 2 yards of the background fabric.

Quilt Blocks

Someone mentioned that I should make some Quarter Square Triangle (QSTs) blocks with them and I thought that was a good idea so I made a few and then decided how I wanted to use them. Doing this meant I had to trim the HSTs down to a smaller size to match the size of the QSTs.

Quilt Layout

I tried different layouts, one was adding plain tan blocks every other one which would have made a much bigger quilt. I decided to add sashing between the blocks.

Time to quilt

I finished piecing it yesterday and now it is ready to be quilted. I am optimistic that I can get it finished by the end of the month.

Qurtis Link

Many of you received my Saturday newsletter and the link didn’t work. There is nothing more frustrating than clicking on a link to something and getting an error. Turns out when I updated the link, it was added to the old link which made a bad link.

I forgot how much I like this and I’m thinking of remaking it in a bigger size.

Scrapmania

I forgot to share a photo of me visiting Scrapmania in Cedar Rapids, IA when we were in the area getting my longarm fixed. The store is huge, 13,600 square feet! I have a feeling my daughter will want to make a day-trip so she can visit it.

Cardmaking Weekend

My sister came up for the weekend and we planned on making lots of cards. Unfortunately there was a weather forecast of a blizzard coming in late Saturday night with 5-8 inches of snow so she headed home after dinner on Saturday. A very short weekend. We ended up not getting the snow until Sunday afternoon and it wasn’t much but lots of wind and a whiteout which closed the interstate highways around here.

    Hi Connie,
I made a Qurtis mini quilt for my front door. I love your patterns and have enjoyed making many of them. I’d like to send you a picture of it.
    Wishing you a happy spring.
    Thanks so much!

  2. Connie, you have such great lay out ideas, your HST quilt is beautiful. Mid Texas still cold, 7 rabbits now down to 2 or 3,so praying varmints didn’t get them or hoping they left for awhile. Stay well

  3. Your UFO looks great! Those fabrics look so good together. The Midwest sounds brutal with this storm. We are in Maui with their flooding! Talked to a couple today from Michigan. They couldn’t get to the airport to head home because of the road closures due to flooding and now can’t get out because of snow at home.

I like the way you developed your blocks in to the quilt. As for the qurtis mini quilt I think it will make a great table just adding more blocks. Looking forward to more of your great ideas!

  5. Very pretty UFO project. Good job get it all pieced.

We had the same weather here in SD, with the interstates closed here too. Like you we didn’t get as much snow as expected but the wind sure blew around what we got. Today it’s very cold and sunny. By next Saturday the prediction is near 80 degrees. It was negative 1 this morning. That is a crazy fluctuation!!

  6. What a great quilt! Thanks for sharing another great idea!
