Happening in my Studio #7

This is a Happening in my Studio #7 blog post showing what is going on in my studio and I thought I should share a new picture of Rusty, I took this earlier today as he is waiting patiently to come inside. “Let me in mom!”

Pattern Writing Mode

I am still spending most of my time pattern writing but I think today I will take a break and spend some time in my quilt studio quilting. When I am pattern writing I get super focused, loose track of time and can spend hours working.

When I do take a break I work on something simple like this Economy block or Square in a Square block using scraps from my Twizzle quilt. I’m going to turn this quilt block into something fun.

Quilt on the Longarm

I pulled out another quilt top and hope to work on quilting it today. I have a closet in the guest room that has quilt tops on hangers waiting to be quilted. Do you have that?

I think the fabrics were some of the first batiks I ever bought and them from Connecting Threads. I pieced some fabric together for the back.

I have some large pieces of fleece that I used as a room divider when my quilt studio was in our unfinished basement in the last house. I am going to use that as my batting. I have done it before using my vintage 15-91 Singer but I haven’t tried it on my longarm. Wish me luck.

Ironing Table

My quilt studio isn’t always straightened up. This is my ironing table which is an old desk and covered with extra large wool pressing mats.

Another Messy Area

I have a small storage room with no windows that I store all of my quilts in. It gets a little messy when I am looking for a particular quilt like last week when I was trying to find my Patchwork Rabbit wall hanging (I must have gifted it to my daughter).

I ordered a new roll of batting as I was getting low and I want to be ready when my new Nolting Longarm arrives in about a month.

Fox

Rusty and I were out in the backyard and this fox was just on the other side of our fence. Rusty just looked at him but stayed by me (Rusty won’t go after a rabbit, squirrel, or bird.

The poor fox was so skinny, looked like he had mange and also had a raw wound on his back hip. We will see a fox occasionally drink the water that we put out for the animals.

Mallard Ducks

I can tell it is Spring, our pair of Mallard ducks showed up again. For some reason they love sitting by our front door and of course they really make some messes which poor Bob cleans up every day.

  1. Love the photos! Trying to “square away” my sewing room after a “largesse” of 11 tubs of fabric! So can you keep the new “pet?” I was between the double doors at chruch the other day with Indie and couldn’t go back (autolock) and certainly didn’t think Indie ould “play” nice” with the big guy. So we waited it out. They are certainly bigger than I thought! (New computer – been off the grid for almost 2 months!)

My heart goes out to that little fox. I agree, it doesn’t look healthy.

  3. You have a great workspace and storage, thanks for sharing. I finally took over a small unused office room in my house for fabric storage, I couldn’t keep it all in my ‘creative’ room, I felt a bit claustrophobic! LOL!
What kind of dog is Rusty? He’s so cute! The poor fox looks worse for wear, I hate to see animals in this state, but they get into some bad situations out in the wild.
A local department store in my city has had to have the county wildlife agency come out now for 3 years in a row to remove a mated pair of Canadian geese who like a spot right by one of the entrances to build a nest – their poop gets everywhere!

  4. The ducks feel safe on your front porch. Once they know that the area is still safe from last year, they will go out into the yard more.

  5. Sheryl Harrison says:

Poor fox! This morning when I got my 2nd cup of coffee, I saw a wild turkey by my backyard fence. I got a picture at the back door then stepped outside to get another picture but the turkey turned and ran. He could run fast! I’ve never seen a wild turkey in town.
Rusty is a good boy, not chasing wildlife.

  6. It must be so nice to see spring arrive. I’m looking forward to see what becomes of that block. Yes, I store my unquilted tops in the guest room closet too. You must be so excited about getting the new machine. That fox does not look good! Poor thing.

  7. HI Connie. I have been a longtime subscriber and have made a few of your projects—Thank you! But in further reading I see you had moved to Ankeny —which I had moved FROM to TX in ‘83! I still have some family there too. Anyway I wanted to mention and am guilty as I am behind on blog reading ! Have a good day!

  8. Carol Robinson says:

The fox is kinda rough looking .Wonder if it has mange? Our fox here had mange couple years ago and now they are back and lookig very fluff and healthy.Love your site ,still working on my sewing room re-do . OMG what a job ! You are my inspiration 😉

  9. It’s always fun to see the work spaces of other quilters. How nice to have a big storage area. My quilts are in the closets of 2 extra bedrooms.
