A peek at my quilt studio

I have had many places to sew and quilt over the years but this is my favorite so far. Who knows what my next one will look like! So lets take A peek at my quilt studio.

You will notice that the tree leaves are green, I think it was in August that I took the photos and video but misplaced everything on my computer and just found the folder so I wanted to share with you!

Video of my quilt studio

Here is the video of my quilt studio, I actually made the video before I felt comfortable being on camera. I do have another video of my studio that my grandson took and I’ll share that one soon.

My creative place

This is where I sit and do most of my quilting. I enjoy looking out the window. My sewing machine is a 15-91 Singer that is 73 years old. I bought it at a auction 33 years ago from a woman who had used and cared for it.

My brother replaced the motor at one point and I don’t wind my bobbins on it but this is my favorite sewing machine for freemotion quilting.

I bought my drawer organizers from Ikea but here is a 5 drawer organizer with wheels on Amazon. My lamp is a Daylight slimline lamp.

The rolling stools I use, I have 3 now!

Ironing Station

I use an old desk of my daughter’s for my ironing station. Builder Bob cut me a piece of plywood that I covered with batting and fabric for my ironing board.

About a year ago I bought an extra large wool pressing mat that is 100% New Zealand Wool. It is 22″ x 60″ and I love it. I am going to order another one as Builder Bob is going to cut me a new piece of plywood that is exactly the size of the top of my table.

Maybe I’m a little OCD as it drives me crazy the plywood and wool mat don’t cover my ironing station completely.

Where I iron

Sewing machine for filling bobbins

Here is another 15-91 Singer sewing machine. I actually use this one to fill all of my bobbins, it is nice to have the room to do this.

See the 3-wire shelving unit? I use this to hold some of my rulers, my spray bottles of water and starch and also miscellaneous things. I like that you can adjust the height of the shelves. I just purchased 2 more to use in our kitchen pantry. I originally bought one at Walmart but couldn’t find them. I picked the new 3-Wire Shelving units on Amazon. I also use the large shelving units in my quilt storage room that are on wheels, I have been taking these apart and putting them back together again through all of our moves since the river house.

One more 15-91 Singer

Last winter I found another 15-91 Singer sewing machine on eBay for a good price. I have this one setup with black thread, I do love have plenty of space!

I have an old Ott light, I think I have had it for about 10 years! I found a Brightech Litespan light that is similar. It is LED and the price is very reasonable. I have my portable insulation board design wall propped up on the wall. That is my Quilt Keeper hanging on the door.

Save this for later!

I'll email you this post so you can come back to it later.

Foldable Shelves

This 5 tier foldable shelving unit is in my office but I wanted to share it as it folds up, is light weight and is easy to move and setup. Each shelf can hold 200 pounds. I bought it not too long ago and there are also different sizes.

Cutting Table

I have shared my cutting table many times. This originally was Builder Bob’s table in his woodworking shop. When he quit do that, I got the table. He had to cut the legs down so it was at a height that works for me. I love this table!

I use Sterilite plastic storage drawers to hold my leftover scraps of fabric. Here I show how I organize my batik scraps. I do my other cotton quilt fabrics the same way.

AccuQuilt Electric Cutter

I always keep my AccuQuilt GO! Big Electric Cutter setup. I have these wire mesh shelves from Ikea (no longer available) that work perfectly to hold it. AccuQuilt now has a Die Catcher, Builder Bob made one for me before they came out with one.

More Storage Bins

I have more of the Ikea storage bins and mostly use these to keep track of my Island Batik ambassador projects and fabrics.

My Singer Featherweight is now upstairs sitting on a featherweight table.

Batik Storage

This is some of my batik fabrics. Most of the pieces are under 1/2 yard other than towards the bottom. I also have a few of my AccuQuilt dies there. I like having my fabric out where I can see it.

A view that makes me happy

This is a view that always makes me happy and ready to start quilting! I forgot to show my longarm but it is in my Quilt Studio 2024 post, but it is in my video.

I hope you have enjoyed this! I also use the guest bedroom, quilt storage room and my office….actually you’ll find quilting all over our house!

What a fabulous studio Connie! I love all the space, and so organized.

  2. Thanks for the tour! You have another lovely space for creating!

Oh Connie, I love all the stations and your use of the older machines. Using one for black thread is a great idea. I use an older Elna for zigzagging batting pieces. I may get a rolling stool for that one. Most of my quilting is on the second floor but I keep the Featherweight in the family room for short sessions sewing in the evening. It is true here also, my quilting is all thru out the house. It does make me happy as I create and share my many projects! Thank you for your inspiration.

    Wow! It’s fantastic!
    So organized and neat!!

Thank you for the tour of your beautiful sewing room! And Hello to Rusty!

  6. Your quilting studio is just wonderful! I especially liked the idea of printing pictures of your quilts and hanging them as “pictures”. Great idea!

    1. Johanne Hagar says:

I’ll have to check that out too.

  7. Truly amazing! So organized! And yes I agree with all the perfection, everything having the right place, that having a “short” mat is not optimal, but maybe you can chose the side you use most often and bank it to that side. It’s such a wonderful work space. Inspiring! Might be my New Year’s resolution to organize! (but don’t count on it.) It’s me not the space that’s disorganized! Thanks for the tour!

  8. Wonderful studio! Everything is so neat and tidy. My sewing space is always a mess. I try to keep it neat, but it’s small and I have a lot of fabric etc. I guess anywhere you’re able to sew is a good space though!

  9. Wow!! My sewing room looks pale in comparison, it’s a spare bedroom.

  10. Connie,
You definitely have a beautiful, big, dream quilting studio in this house. Having such a large area with lots of outside light is truly an asset that would make creating in this area a joy. I imagine you hope you never leave this house. You are also lucky to have Builder Bob who makes you such wonderful and useful tables, cabinets and items to help you. I have several of the items that you do- love the Martelli spin cutting mat and the IKEA cabinets. I also save bits and pieces of fabrics and have lots of project containers with items for “someday.” I believe most of us are so much alike being fabri-holics and machine junkies. I also agree with placing machines with a view. Thank you for sharing with us. Give Rusty a hug.

  11. Love it! Does it stay that neat?

  12. Gail Sheppard says:

Thanks for the tour of your studio! It looks fantastic!! And, how do you keep it so clean and tidy????

  13. It’s a really beautiful setup Connie, but all your quilt studios have been impressive. The things I miss most from my downsizing last year are my big cutting table and my design wall. I use the large foam boards like you’re using, but they were attached to the wall before and leaning them against the wall doesn’t quite cut it – especially since they also block my fabric closet when they are in use. It gets to be quite a musical chairs operation at times. lol Anyway, your space is gorgeous and I’m glad that you enjoy it so much. Wishing you and all your family a Happy Thanksgiving.

  14. Ellen Hutchinson says:

I love your quilt studio Connie. I don’t see your sofa. Where do you sit and relax or do you just go outside? Everything looks great and neat. I just cleaned off my table in my studio so I could at least see the surface. My sofa is also full of fabric. That’s my next project. Happy Thanksgiving to you andBuilder Bob and Rusty.

  15. Gail Hafey says:

My sewing room is a hot mess right now, maybe I should print the picture of yours to get inspired to clean up and reorganize. I have a large sewing space in a walkout basement bedroom, I have 7 machines including my mom’s 15-91 that she bought a few years before I was born, let’s just say mid 50’s. I am refurbishing a treadle that a neighbor gave me when downsizing. Right now I need to move some things to make room for a blow up mattress for Thanksgiving guests.

  16. You are one lucky lady to have such a Bee-u-t-full sewing room. I don’t know how you keep it so clean looking and organized. I have the master bedroom for a sewing room, and it is so stuffed and seems to get filled more and the closets too. I think I need to clean out a lot more and donate it at the quilt guilds. Also, I need to stop buying everything I see that I like with no project in mind. ha ha .
    You’re a great inspiration. Thanks

Thank you for the tour of tour quilt studio! I love the way you set it up. You’re fortunate to have that large room to spread out.

  18. I am so impressed with all your space for sewing. I haven’t started my Quilting yet, but you have given me some great ideas for setting up.
