Happening in my Studio #10
I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. We did the Dinner Train ride in Boone, IA on Saturday night and had a great time. I can’t believe it has been 3 years since we did it, this year we celebrated our 18th anniversary.
You’ll have to go back to that post to see our “younger” photo. I thought I had my daughter take a photo with the train tracks as a backdrop but I don’t have.

Bass Point Creek High Bridge
I did get this photo of Bob on the observation platform. He was going to take a photo of me but I’m not great with heights and had drank a glass or two of wine so I wasn’t backing up to the rail.
The train stops for a short time just as it crosses the Bass Point Creek High Bridge which is 156 feet tall.

Kimberly
My daughter and her boyfriend came with us. The food was fantastic and we all had Tomahawk Porkchops, I don’t remember them being that big the last time. Of course I forgot to take a photo of our food.

May UFO Challenge
This month has really flown by for me as I’ve been working on several quilt projects that I can’t share yet. My May UFO was #4, a group of 6-inch Christmas fabric strips.
I decided to cut the fabric into 3-inch strips.

Cutting Squares
Then I cut the strips into 3-inch squares, can you guess what I’m making?

Granny Square Block
I am making Granny Square blocks. Will I get all of the block pieced? Will I get a quilt top made? Will I get it quilted?
This will be a challenge as the month is almost over, we will see.

Sleepy Rusty
I haven’t share a photo of Rusty lately, he looks like he is going to fall asleep!

What a wonderful trip – thanks for taking us with you!!!!!!I haven’t been to Iowa since my Mother passed away – we’re from the far end of the state, Schaller! Pop Corn Capital! Took a train ride from Chicago to New York City many years ago and it was so elegant! Five of the uncles worked for the railroad “backin the day.” Thanks for stirring the memories…….
Thanks Joan, I remember when my grandmother and I would take the train to Chicago to visit her sister. I loved it. Back then we could even eat in the dining car. Those were the good ole days.
Your Granny Square looks nice! I love pinks and mint green for Christmas, probably because I was born in the 1950s and saw it a lot growing up.
I think I’ve taken that train ride! About 20 years ago my brother signed us all up for something like that, and he was living in Omaha at the time. It looks bigger and fancier now.
Did you have a silver Christmas tree or White flocked one in the 50’s? My grandparents did. That is so neat that the train ride has been going for that long!
It looks like a wonderful way to celebrate your anniversary. I’ll bet that pork chop was delicious. I’m seeing so many granny square blocks lately. Those will make a great quilt. Like you, I’m wonder If I am going to finish mine too. 😬
It is funny how things become popular again. I made granny squares years ago and first learned to make a crocheted blanket of granny squares. Needlepoint is showing up again too!
Happy Anniversary!
Thanks Vicki!
Happy Anniversary! Your Granny Squares will look great in the Christmas fabric!
Thanks Sharon, not my favorite Christmas colors. I’m more bright red and green.
Happy Anniversary to you and Builder Bob. Great pictures- looks like a wonderful trip. Beautiful daughter.
Bless little Rusty- I thought he looked like he was either falling asleep or just waking.
Beautiful quilt.
Don’t think I’m doing any UFO’s, though I have many. But have been using up some fabric I’ve had on hand.
Thanks so much Beverly, using up fabric is always a great thing to do.
Rusty is just so darn cute! And I love the granny square, always a good layout.
Thanks Stacia
Happy Anniversary! Looks like you had a fun trip!
Back in 1999, My husband and I celebrated our 20th in Branson, Missouri. Took in several shows and took a scenic train ride.
Rusty looks like he enjoys trying out the new quilts!
The train was wonderful Yevonne, Branson MO is beautiful
Looks like a great train trip. Only a glass or two? 🍷🍷
Happy Anniversary.
Well actually, my daughter and I shared a bottle!
Love the photos! That train ride looks like great fun!
Thanks Dianne, it really was.
Happy anniversary!
Thanks Sara
That train ride dinner sounds like a lot of fun, Connie. Unfortunately, we have had nothing but rain for many days in a row. We really needed it, so I’m not complaining, but it does put a damper (ha ha) on holiday festivities. Today, the rain has finally stopped so I guess we can start drying out.
Sorry the rain put a damper on the festivities Pat but I’m sure you’re glad for the rain.
