Easy Miniature Quilts

I still have one that I actually hand-quilted. Today I prefer to make miniature quilts using sublimation printing on fabric.
Hand-quilted Miniature Quilt
This hand-quilted miniature quilt is about 8-inches by 10-inches and I believe I made it when I was working at Northwest Fabrics.
How long ago was that? Let’s say about 30 years ago before blogging was a thing! Even then, this combination of teal and coral was popular. I can’t believe I made all of those tiny half square triangles!

Rusty and the Miniature
When I started to write this blog post, it was just going to be on sublimation and then I remembered that I had made miniature quilts before and luckily I had this one in my stack of mug rugs and other small quilts.
The memories this quilt brings back! I had to get a photo of Rusty and this 30 year old quilt.

Miniature Quilts In My Quilt Studio
Today I prefer to make miniature quilts using Sublimation printing. I am filling the wall by my coffee maker with the miniature quilts. I have a couple I still have finished.

Epson F170 Sublimation Printer
Sublimation printing is done with a special printer and ink. I purchased the Epson F170 Sublimation printer which is made specifically for sublimation. Many people are buying other Epson printers and converting them but I didn’t want to do that. You also use a special Sublimation paper and print on 100 percent Poplin polyester fabric.
The fabric reminds of double-knit fabric that used to be so popular for dresses in the 70s.

Sublimation Quilts Closeup
I am a visual person so I have decided to make miniatures of all of my quilts to motivate me to make more. I can play with colors and fabrics in Electric Quilt 8.

Circular Illusion Sublimation
I printed out my Circular Illusion quilt on the sublimation paper and since it was square, I added two smaller quilts. The colors look dull when the paper prints but are very vibrant on the fabric. I have decided I don’t care for the black lines being printed.

Board Games
Board Games is a quilt I made in 2016 for Quiltmaker magazine. I think this may have been one of the first quilts that I sublimated and I think I will redo it as the colors are too dark plus I want to get rid of the black lines.
I had blonde hair when I made the Board Games quilt. Looking back at old posts is so much fun!

Sublimation Design Wall
I guess I could also call this my Sublimation design wall as not all of the quilts have been made yet. I really like the way my Hopscotch quilt looks in teals. I think I have made this quilt 3 or 4 times already.

Coffee and Dog Biscuits
This wall is right across from my sewing machine and I really enjoy looking at it. I have my coffee and Rusty has his biscuits. I have even done sublimation on my coffee cup of course if you look closely, you’ll noticed I goofed and printed upside down.

Do you have a mini quilt pattern of hearts for a little girl. Looking for one to make for my 18 month old GREAT granddaughter so she can have it with her at all times. Thanks for any help that you can give me❣️❣️❣️❣️
How interesting! I haven’t heard of such a technique for quilts. The wall looks so pretty. Hope you are staying safe with those storms today.
I love those miniature quilts and will be checking into the printer. Thanks.
Bom dia Amei as mini colchas. Parabéns e obrigada
I love what you are doing, how do you find the time for all of it?
I especially love Rusty, he looks like he is gurarding his quilt saying “don’t you dare touch my quilt.” Ha, ha, funny!
Thanks! This looks like a plan! I had to look up the word (and admittedly I’m still not sure I get that) but the process look like fun! Always open to news ways to “quilt”.
I don’t know if I will ever make one but I like your Mini Quilts. I never get tired of seeing Rusty. Have a nice day Connie.
