Two Scrappy Mosaic Quilts

Two Scrappy Mosaic Quilts
I used a lot of batiks scraps making these two quilts. They will make cute baby quilts and this is something that is always good to have on hand.
My Helper
Rusty is a typical helper and any time a quilt is on the floor….he’ll protect it.
Unfortunately he does shed but I always like to wash a dry a quilt before giving it away. I wash on cold and use a Shout Color Catcher sheet. I remove the quilt from the wash machine as soon as it finishes as I don’t want to take a chance of the colors bleeding while being wet. Then I put the quilt in the dryer on low heat.
Longarm Quilted
I used a white premium muslin for the solid fabric in the blocks plus the back of the quilts and Hobbs 80/20 Premium Heirloom Batting on my Noltings Longarm quilting machine.
Closeup of the Mosaic Block
As you can see, this block is made up of Half Square Triangles (HSTs). There are four different sections to the block but they are all made the same way.
45″ x 54″ Quilt
Each quilt is 45-inches by 54-inches and is a good size for a baby quilt or a lap quilt.
Two Scrappy Mosaic Quilts and Rusty
Rusty is getting so good about sitting while I get a photo of him with my quilts.
Quilts For Our Guest Room
Right off my quilt studio is our guest room and these really add a pop of color to the room.

Don't worry, I promise not to spam you.
Scrappy Mosaic Quilt
This is a perfect quilt for using up your scraps. The blocks are 9-1/2-inches unfinished. The squares are 5-inches and the half square triangles 2-3/4 inches unfinished.
There are 6 rows of 5 blocks for a total of 15 mosaic blocks and 15 four square blocks.
Half Square Triangle Blocks
For the HST blocks, cut (2) 3-1/8 inch squares of a color and (2) 3-1/8 inch squares of white. Mark a line diagonally and stitch 1/4 inch on each side of the line. Cut on the marked line. Your HSTs should measure 2-3/4 inch unfinished.
Each block is made up of (4) sections of 4 different colors. Each section is made the same way and then rotated when you sew 4 of them together. Always sew with a 1/4-inch seam allowance.
If you would like a more detailed tutorial on making the HST blocks, checkout my Shoo Fly Quilt Block tutorial.
Four Square Quilt Block
Each Four Square quilt block is made from (2) 5 inch square of white and (2) different 5 inch squares of colors.
I hope you enjoyed this and if you would be interested in a more detailed tutorial/pattern, please let me know.

Hi Connie
I really enjoy reading your posts and have purchased several of your patterns. The scrappy mosaic quilts you made in this blog are so cute! I didn’t see the pattern in your shop. Do you have a more detailed pattern available for this quilt? I would love to make one or two for my grandchildren. Thanks! Happy New Year to you and Builder Bob!

Rusty looks so good in those pictures. I really love the Scrappy Mosaic Quilt. It’s going on my list of quilts to make.
Wow!!! What beautiful quilts! Bright and cheerful.
Looks so complicated, but your instructions make it a definitely doable project. Plus it uses up leftover fabric. Fantastic!
Thank you Connie for all your quilting ideas.
What beautiful quilts! So happy & fresh! And I love the batiks! I would definitely love a tutorial. Thank you for your inspiration!
I love these gorgeous quilts. Thanks for the measurements. I’ll be making a wall hanging using your pattern in the near future.
Fabulous quilts, Connie and you are so right about the being perfect for scraps. I am tired of moving scrap piles – so I need to do something. So glad Rusty has grown into his role as Top Dog for quilt photos!
These two quilts are very striking due to the beautiful, bright fabrics you used. Thank you for the quick instructions which makes it easy to understand the construction of the quilt. Definitely on my to-do list.
Beautiful quilts Connie. I really love these with the lovely bright colours. I have two great granddaughters who are due for new quilts and this pattern would suit them both beautifully. Thank you so much for the clear instructions, and, as I have lots of scraps I can’t wait to get started. Thank you too for the pics of Rusty, I always look forward to seeing him in your emails.
Many thanks from Barb in Australia
Two Scrappy Mosaic Quilts
All of your patterns and tutorials are awesome, and yes, I would love to get a detailed tutorial of the Mosaic.
Thank you
Do you only use batiks in your quilting? Never calicos or other fabrics?
Those are really pretty, Connie. They add such a lovely pop of color to the guest room too. It’s always a great feeling to get finished quilts from your scraps. It appears your quilt inspector approves!
Hello Connie, I love the Scrappy mosaic quilt pattern and your choice of colour. The guest room looks very inviting.. I love little Rusty, he is a darling.
Love these scrappy mosaic quilts!! So colorful and bright, they would add cheer to any room! Thanks for sharing and including information on the sizes of fabric in the block. A tutorial would be most welcome!
Those are really pretty!! So clever!
Absolutely the best! So many wonderful colors and all the “sunshine” radiating from this quilt. Thanks for the washing tips too.
Such beautiful and colourful quilts with your usual easy to follow instructions.
Thanks, Connie, for this project and for the photos of your guest room displaying the completed quilts.
Rusty is such a great companion to have while you are working and has taken to modelling quilts like a true professional.
Hi Connie,
What beautiful quilts! The colors just pop. I’ve got plenty of scraps just waiting for me to do something with them. I just need to find the time to use them. Rusty is doing a beautiful job as your assistant and quilt model. LOL!!
These are absolutely beautiful. I see you quilted loops, nice work!!
Beautiful “bonus” quilts! It always amazes how many designs one can get by using HSTs. So fun to see some of the designs.
Good morning Connie! Happy belated birthday!
I love the mosaic quilt, I am going to try ones I have been looking for a pattern for a baby quilt.
Thanks so much for all the ideas, I appreciate all your tips!
I am in Dubuque, Iowa, and yes, the weather has been cool. I was in flip flops a few weeks ago, now back to socks & shoes, as its been chilly.
I made a lap quilt years ago with some of my Batik fabrics, & I love it, not sure if we can post pics on here.
Anyways, you have a good week!
Thanks so much for your fun ideas!
Jane
Beautiful scrap quilts! They just glow!
Good Morning Connie, and Happy Belated Birthday!
I belong to a quilting group in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We have expanded our quilt-giving to the local dialysis clinic. When I saw your Scrappy Mosaic Quilt this morning, I knew that this would be my donation for this year. What a great way to brighten up an otherwise dreary time in the chair. Bonus: some scraps move out to make room for new ones!
These are great looking quilts, Connie. I think I missed wishing you a Happy Birthday – so, belatedly, Happy Birthday! For some reason, I just can’t keep up with anything these days.
Oh, Connie it’s gorgeous and vibrant, I love the color combinations you have used and that Batik fabric is so bright and cheery!
The muslin offsets the colors well, just beautiful!
Connie, I agree 100% with M G. Love the bright colors! Rusty is doing a great job posing for the pictures.
Beautiful work and great color choices as usual Connie!
Really beautiful quilts! I love those mosaic blocks.
