Have you ever made a Dresden pillow or quilt projects? Pillows are always a fast way to test a quilt project to see if you like doing it. You wouldn’t want to cut out a gazillion pieces from your fabric and find out you really, really don’t like make them.

Next week I’ll be sharing a Dresden quilt as part of the Island Batik blog hop for November using the surprise fabrics from the summer 2024 collection, I can’t wait to share it with you!

Pillows are always a fast way to test a quilt project to see if you like doing it. You wouldn’t want to cut out a gazillion pieces from your fabric and find out you really, really don’t like make them.

I top-stitched the Dresden plate to my background before quilting it.

Leftover Fabric

I have had the tan dot batik in my stash for a long, long time. I think I used it for my Wild in Northwoods wallhanging for AccuQuilt. Nope, I just looked and those were different Island Batik fabrics. The print was leftover from my Travel Duffle Bag.

AccuQuilt Dresden Die & Die Catcher

I have had the AccuQuilt GO! Dresden die for a long time, I can’t even remember the last time I used it. I just cut my fabric pieces 6″ x 8½” to fit over the cuts for the pointed plates. Using my AccuQuilt GO! Electric made it fast to make all of the cuts.

Have you seen the new Die Catcher from AccuQuilt? Builder Bob made one for me about 2 months before AccuQuilt’s came out. If you don’t have a “Builder Bob”, this is a great addition when cutting with the dies.

Easy Dresden

I know not everyone wants to use the AccuQuilt die as it is expensive so the Easy Dresden tool would be great to use and doesn’t cost much.

Batting Scraps

Pillows are a great way to use up your scraps of batting. I save all of my Hobbs Batting scraps and then zig-zag the pieces together for whatever quilt project I am working on.

Top-Stitching On Pillow

Once I had my pillow quilted and pieced together, I top-stitched about 1/4″ around the edges of the pillow. Isn’t this photo neat with the shadow play?

Two Different Pillows

Since it is fall, I pulled out my Country House with Pumpkins pillow that I made last year be sure to look at the tutorial! I think they look good together.

Rusty with the Pillow

Rusty had to pose with the Dresden pillow, he seems to like it. Poor guy doesn’t know that he will be getting his yearly physical, shots and nails trimmed this afternoon!

Another Dresden Pillow

I guess I made a Dresden pillow back in 2015 when I bought this AccuQuilt die! I had forgotten all about it until this one popped up! Applique Dresden Quilt pillow, take a look!

  8. I love your dresden pillow. I made my first dresden quilt, the first part of the year and really enjoyed it. As always I love seeing Rusty in your pictures, such a sweetie.

  9. Love the way you used the pattern as a frame in the corners. Yes I did make this pattern once several years ago. Funny how we have steamlined our patterns and techniques. Your patterns are so easy to follow.
So along with being a model he still has to take care of himself. Extra treats for him!!!!
    Thanks so much

Rusty is so amazing as he appears to smile, sometimes closed-mouth and other times smiling with teeth showing. Such a good poser for camera shoots.

I’m quilting mine at the moment, so it was great to see how you quilted yours!!

  16. Hi Connie,
I love this pillow! I want to FMQ with one of my vintage Singers but can’t seem to find a modern FMQ foot to give me enough clearance to move the fabric underneath it. Your foot looks original-lucky you!
I enjoy your emails and your creative inspiration!
