Today I am excited to share the Banana Split quilt from the Cake Mix Quilt Book Volume 1 as part of the Cake Mix Quilt Along hosted by the Fat Quarter Shop. I’ve had sewing the Banana Split from It’s Sew Emma’s latest book The Cake Mix Quilt Book Volume One.

Banana Split Quilt from the Cake Mix Quilt Along

This is a collection of 8 Cake Mixes with two easy quilt patterns for each, totaling 16 quilts! For my layer cake I chose Peacock Classic by Kaffe Fassett and white Bella Solid for the background and used the Cake Mix Recipe #5 cards from Miss Rosie’s Quilt Co.

All of the quilts in the book are super easy to make when you use the recipe cards! If you just buy the book and not the recipe cards, be sure and read the Introduction section of the book which will tell you what size of blocks you will use in the patterns.

The Mississippi river was snow covered and frozen when I took some photos. Luckily the wind didn’t blow my quilt away. The pattern in the book makes a 91 1/2″ x 91 1/2″ huge quilt.

I decided to make a smaller lap quilt that would work on a twin bed.

I used Aurifil #2024 for my piecing and quilting and did a fairly large stipple quilting for a fluffy quilt. Visit the Jolly Jabber where you can see the list of everyone taking part in the blog hop.

This is the second time I have made a quilt with fabrics by Kaffe Fassett and I have found I really like his prints. Fat Quarter Shop also has a Peacock Classics Kaffe Fassett Bundle that I’m tempted to get! Did you miss my first Kaffe Fassett quilt? Check it out.

I’m usually not a Kaffe fan, but I like how you toned it down with lots of negative space, so I am a beginning fan;)
