Have you ever wanted to make a log cabin quilt? Amber Logs is a 48″ x 48″ quilt that I made using log cabin blocks and I have a pattern for it.
It looks beautiful draped over a couch or if you have a large wall, it would look great hanging there.

Where does the time go! I made this quilt in 2014 and blogged about it in July of that year. This is an updated post as I know that for many of you, this is the first time you’ll have seen this quilt on my blog.
The blocks in this quilt are called off-center log cabin and many times they are paper pieced. I just designed it in Electric Quilt and then cut my strips and sewed my blocks.
I no longer have my huge brick backdrop setup as there just isn’t room so I am back to using a garage door to hangs my quilts.
I did a post showing how to use magnets on your garage door. Last year I bought some polymer packing tape that works great for temporarily holding my quilts on different surfaces like the garage door.
Here is a photo of the quilt taken right after I made it.
It was so nice to have the river back to normal and…..my bell dry for pictures of quilts! I still had to be very careful as the water is still up to the wall and I didn’t want to loose my quilt.
In the flood of 2019, the bell finally fell as it was underwater for so long. When the river level went down, my brother recused the bell and it is now down at our dad’s shop. My dad loved that bell.
Batiks
I love, love being an ambassador for Island Batik and the colors in the Amber Ale collection are beautiful! I knew right away what I wanted to make with this bundle!
This collection is no longer available but it would be very easy to find some batiks in similar colors. I am thinking it might be time to make another quilt like this in different colors.
This was the first time I received a batik that had metallic accents and the neat surprise was realizing I actually had the look of 2 different fabrics! One side has the metallic and the other is plain. I used the plain batik side for the center of my blocks.
Here you can see 4 of the blocks put together.
It was always so much much to use this Rosebud tree for photos of my quilts. Unfortunately the wind finally toppled this tree.
At our new home we have a beautiful tree that will work for taking photos. I took this photo early this morning.
Have you ever made a log cabin quilt? One of the first quilts I ever made was a log cabin quilt.

A stunner! such contrast. That pattern could go so many color ways. Thanks again.

That is such a beautiful autumn quilt. Those fabrics really are pretty and one can’t go wrong with the log cabin pattern. I’m sure we will all miss the river photos, but your quilts will be beautiful in any pictures.

looks much better from that tree

That’s a truly beautiful quilt for fall (which I know as autumn) Delighted you kept it hidden until I started following your blog in the spring this year!

Wow your quilt is gorgeous. Love the colors.

I favor Fall colors almost all year. Probably because I grew up in Naples, FL and they don't have Fall colors there! Your quilt turned out lovely!

Lovely fall colors and perfect setting in the off-set log cabin block. Look forward to seeing what your Market sewing is.

Beautiful! Batiks have such subtle colouring, this is truly elegant.

Very pretty. I've made several log cabin quilts and love the variety of ways to lay it out and change the whole look. I've not tried this type of log cabin block before but I do love that circular look it creates. And what gorgeous batiks!!
Pat
What a beautiful block and quilt.

So pretty. I really like the effect of the uneven sides.

Beautiful! I thought about you the other day, when on my way to work. I saw about a dozen pelicans in a small pond that has formed from a gravel pit! Pelicans in Denver???? 😉

I love log cabin blocks…such variation from one little change! Can you explain the ambassador program a bit more? It seems like they periodically send you fabric and you promote a project from that line? Thanks for sharing!
