Mystery Paper Piecing
I have been rearranging my sewing room……again, I won’t be opening the window any time soon so I moved things around and also did a little cleaning….guess what I found? Yep, this is Regina’s mystery paper piecing.
I had 2 parts done and “thought” I had downloaded the directions for the rest so I figured I would finish it up and get another project done. Somehow I had missed one part and below you can see what I had when I finished my paper piecing.
Paper Piecing Sections
It took me SEVERAL times to figure paper piecing out….I know, sometimes I’m a little slow but now….I love it! Mystery blocks/quilts are always a little tough because you aren’t sure what it is going to look like. I really like this pattern and can see making it again in different colors.
Golden October Tree
I used batik fabrics that I had in my stash. Picking oranges and yellows for the Golden October Tree was fun. I also had a green batik print that worked great for the ground.
Finished Golden October Tree Wall Hanging
When I finished the paper piecing I put borders around it and made it into a wall hanging.
Freemotion Quilting
My favorite part of quilting is doing some freemotion meandering. I used a couple of different colors of thread and also did some loops on the tree.
Back of the Golden October Tree Wall Hanging
Sometimes it is fun to share the back of a quilted project. I used a dark green thread in the bobbin and just switched the top thread color.
I also made little pockets on the corners and used a dowel to be able to hang the wall hanging up.

Your piecing is really awesome. I'm in the beginning stages of thinking about doing some pp. I want to do it, but know it will really be a challenge for me. If I don't have a step by step tutorial, I have a hard time following written instructions. Just one of my quirks. Ha!
I love the colors you used in both the tree and the bowls.
I am going to send you my picture as we have the same colors. Regina was surprised at the colors since they don't see the brights in Germany. After taking a class with Carol Doak, I fell in love with pp. Regina has some great patterns as does Carol.
That looks great! It would be fun to do it for each season and hang them together.

Wonderful! I just read somewhere (can't remember where) that the writer said she bought tracing paper from the dollar store, as that made it so much easier to pull off, and she cut it down so it could go through the printer. That way, she didn't have to turn it over and look for the lines. Darn! where did I read that?!!!
Oh Connie, its fantastic! I am making a wonky house/forest/neighborhood type quilt for my hospitals ER…I would love to have this in it! I tried to open a couple of her patterns but it didnt work…help!
