30’s Playtime Baby Quilt
I used 2 of the 5-inch charm packs of 30’s Playtime by Linzee McCray for Moda Fabrics for my baby quilt.
30’s Playtime Fabrics
The fabrics really have a vintage look to them and remind me of fabrics I used when I first started quilting…..years ago.
The charm packs were in my July Sew Sampler Box from Fat Quarter Shop.
If you missed my blog post about what was in the July Sew Sampler box, you can find it here.
Half Square Triangles
The quilt is made from simple half square triangle blocks. I use HSTs in many of my quilts and I have a tutorial for using 5-inch squares.
30’s Playtime Baby Quilt
Here is what each block in the quilt looks like. You are using two of the same fabric in each block.
For a scrappy look you could arrange the blocks like this.
Choosing A Size For The Quilt
At first I was going with 4 quilt blocks in each row and 6 rows but it was too narrow.
40″ x 48″ Baby Quilt
5 blocks in each row gave a much better size of baby quilt. 40″ x 48″ worked and I was able to use a piece of flannel for the backing. The batting was my Hobbs 80/20 Premium batting.
I quilted it on my vintage 15-91 Singer sewing machine. Since the backing was just a couple of inches bigger than the front I think it would have been impossible to quilt on my longarm.
Flannel Backing
I had a yellow flannel that was perfect for the backing. I think I’ll start using flannel on the back of my baby quilts for often. Do you use flannel on the back of yours?
Lap Size Quilt
The quilt would also be a good size for a lap quilt. I am loving the new table I bought for my Featherweight sewing machine. Here is my Monday Happenings 6 In My Studio post with more info on it.
Save this for later!

Rusty On The 30’s Playtime Baby Quilt
Everyone always asks about Rusty and he is getting better at posing. Now if he would just keep his eyes open!
Rusty Sleeping
Now this is a cute photo of Rusty! He was sleeping on his couch with his quilt and pillow this morning. He is the sweetest little guy!
It will be 2 years in November since we adopted Rusty.

I love the quilts and your dogs are so cute, We work with a rescue here in British Columbia Canada. Still hot weather but cools at night. I have a 1949 feather weight sewing machine as well as 3 others, none are new, but they get a work out. Latest project is a quilt for our new Great Grand daughter Lily.
Love seeing your fur babies ! I use flannel for backings love the softness of it ! Awesome that you have rescue dogs !
sweet rusty!
Such a happy quilt! Love all the fabrics!!!!!! Rusty is such a cutie!
I really like this baby quilt, and I love working with 30’s fabrics. I often use flannel on the back of my baby quilts. I think Rusty likes this quilt too. He is adorable.
Hi Connie,
Love the quilt…I’ll try that pattern too. Your old Singer sewing machines reminds me of my grandmother’s Singer sewing machine. She taught me how to sew on it. Great memories!
Janet
The baby quilt is adorable! Is it for a gift? Rusty always looks like he’s just chillin’. 🙂
Love the quilt. It is so pretty. Rusty is doing an amazing job posing for photos. He is a lucky dog who is finally living the life!
