I thought it would be fun to share what’s new in my quilt studio: 3 projects and also just a bit my personal life. While I’m writing a blog post or working on a quilt project, I get to watch the squirrels and birds in our feeders, I so enjoy having a window in front of me!

Prairie Crossroads Block Challenge

Leslie from The Seasoned Homemaker is doing a free Prairie Crossroads Block Challenge and I thought it would be fun to take part. The FREE challenge will teach you to make the Prairie Crossroads block in two sizes. Sorry it is no longer available.

Prairie Crossroads Block Challenge, my block

12 Inch Block

Here is my first quilt block, I’m going to make one more this size and then two that are 6 inch blocks. If you have some scraps or fat quarters in your stash, you should join in!

Time To Use The Longarm

I have 2 quilts that are ready to be quilted. Hopefully today or tomorrow I’ll get one on the frame.

Local Motion Quarter Square Blocks

I used a 10-inch stack of Local Motion batiks from Island Batik to make this quilt. I really like the Quarter Square block and how this turned out. You can learn how to make the Quarter Square Log Cabin block here.

Local Motion Scraps

I like to cut up the leftover fabrics from a quilt project right away if there isn’t much left of the fabric. I cut one block from each 10-inch square and then cut the scraps into 1½ x 1½ squares and I also have a bigger piece from each square. I think I might make a Scrappy Batik Pillow with my scraps.

Oasis Quilt

I had a batik strip set in my stash that I think my daughter bought me at least 7 years ago and I used it to make a larger quilt like the Oasis baby quilt. I hope to get a pattern written for it soon.

OYA Watering Pots

We spent a lot of time this week planting our garden beds. I started tomato plants from seed and we have tons of plants. I am also experimenting and using terracotta watering pots to water them.

You bury the pot up to its neck and the plants will “drink” the amount of water they need. I’m not sure how well it will work as our raised beds are new. I’ll let you know! You can learn more about the OYA pot here.

Duck Pond

The mallard ducks are still visiting every day, the female enjoys getting in the water pan. Of course I have to clean it afterwards as she is kind of messy.

This week we started seeing Orioles so I put out the feeders that have grape jelly in them. I’ve actually seen a couple of finches eat the jelly too.

Flower Bed

Our flower bed in the front is starting to look good. My neighbor thinned her Hosta plants and gave me some. Since we have so many birds, squirrels and now ducks, I decided to put most of my plants in pots.

Water Fountain

I watched a YouTube video where you made a water fountain from flower pots and a solar fountain and I ended up making two of them! They even light up a night. There are different nozzles and when it was windy here for a couple of days the water kept blowing out of the pot. I put a nozzle on that just dribbled. I bought the pots at Costco.

When Blogs Used To Be Journals

I hope you enjoyed What’s New In My Quilt Studio: 3 Projects, when I first started blogging back in 2007 (where does the time go??) posts were more of a journal of what was going on. Times changed and that was no longer in style but you know what, I still enjoy reading posts like that and from time to time I want to share more of our life with you!

  1. I always enjoy a tour thru your studio! Rusty must have been hiding! 😁
Thank you for sharing! Terry 😊💕👍🏻

  2. Enjoyed reading and seeing the pictures of what you’re doing outside. How you’ve made the animals welcomed is a wonderful thing. Keep these kind of blogs coming.

  3. Hi Connie
I enjoy hearing about your gardening and your wildlife, so keep blogging about what’s going on with you. And we know that Rusty is always a big part of everything! My husband started his tomato plants from seeds and planted them in holes cut in the bags of potting soil. He says he read about this method and is trying it out this year. We’ll see!
    Take care, Stacia

  4. I made a solar fountain very similar to yours last year. They are so fun! Your flower bed is looking good.

  5. I love reading all the newsy bits as well as seeing the quilts.

I sure enjoyed the look at What you’ve got going on. The quilts are beautiful and I love the fountain ⛲! We did a thing too…..drive to NC and picked up a 10 week old bundle of joy! (Puppy) She sure has kept us busy! Under the longarm seems to be one of her favorite places. Who knows why!?

The female duck in the pan is sweet.
I do like your fountains and the birds on the feeder..

  10. The quilts look so pretty, especially the log cabin one. Oasis is lovely in those fabrics. I think batiks are timeless. Your garden and pots look fabulous. I can hardly wait to read about the watering pots. I can almost taste those BLT sandwiches! Great job on your fountain. I love when the orioles return.. is that a Bullock’s oriole? We have mostly Hooded ones here, but occasionally get a Bullocks. I like the idea of blogs too. They were so much fun to read. Are you getting any of the Northern Light show up there?

  11. Doesn’t matter what you call it – landline, cell phone, blog, carrier pigeon – it’s always good to keep in touch – love all the news from your neck of the woods! The garden looks wonderful with the raised beds and the designer style in front! These quilts are wonderful! Looking forward to making more of them – I’ve finished my kids’ quilts for the season at the guild and now it’s ME TIME! Thanks for the inspiration!

I love hearing what you are up to Connie and those ducks look well at home! I have never heard of Orioles. Maybe we don’t have them here in the UK. I’ll Google it. Well done on the water fountain too. It looks very professional.
