I recently watch someone unbox the Quilt Cow’s September box and decided I really liked it so I purchased it. It came in just a couple of days! There were a couple of quilt projects in the box but I decided to make a Quilted Cow Snowman table topper!

Quilted Cow September Subscription Box

The Quilted Cow is a quilt shop in Missouri and has been around since 2010. I had never heard of them until I started watching some unboxing videos on YouTube. The cost of this subscription is $60 which includes tax and this box is still available.

I am not affiliated with them and purchased this myself. Let’s take a look at what was in the box!

September Subscription Box

I did a video but I also like to share on my blog. Here is what was in the September Box.

Magnetic Flower Power Pin Holder

Do you use magnetic pin holders? I do and have two in my quilt studio. I think I will use this Lori Holt Magnetic Flower Power pin holder upstairs by my Featherweight sewing machine. I love red! The value of this is $8.98.

Lori Holt Binding Needles

There was also a package of Lori Holt Binding Needles. There are eighteen needles in the tube. I sew all of my binding on by machine so I will probably be putting these in a box for a giveaway at some point. The value of this is $2.98.

Cindy’s Seam Ripper

This is the Cindy’s Seam Ripper. It has an ergonomic handle and is designed to lessen hand fatigue and give you more control. I’ll be interested to try this and let you know if I like it. Goodness knows I use a seam ripper quite a bit! The value of this is $9.98.

Unicorn Baby Beyond Rinse

There were two 4oz bottles of Unicorn Baby, Beyond Soft is a anti-static conditioning for fabric. I only saw a 16oz bottle on Amazon for $25.00. The other is Unicorn Beyond Fibre Wash, a detergent for all types of fibers. This size is $13.00 on Amazon.

100% Cotton Mettler Thread

I received one spool of black 100% cotton Mettler thread. It is 50wt and there is 164yd per spool. The value of this is about $4.00.

Fabric and Patterns for the Snowman Quilt Project

There was a pattern for a Snowman Pillow and also one to make two placemats. There was also four different fabrics plus a panel of 6 snowmen.

There is over a yard of the fabric with the red mittens. I’m not sure of a value for the fabric and patterns but I would estimate 2 yards of fabric not counting the Snowmen panel. If you figure $10.00 a yard that is $20.00 and the patterns are probably $9.00 each.

Fabric for snowman quilt project

I found several of the panels on Etsy. Here are the links to buy the Snowman Panel.

I really love this Snowman Panel and that is the main reason I wanted this box. The value of the panel is $8.95

Half Square Triangles Oops!

I went ahead and started making the Snowman pillow. I didn’t get very far before I made a mistake! I was sewing right along and didn’t realize that half of my half square triangles had the wrong side of the fabric as the right side. Good thing I have several seam rippers and no, I didn’t try the new one yet.

Fussy Cut the Snowman

I used my Omnigrid Square Ruler to fussy cut the snowman. Yes, I have a ton of rulers!

Snowman Pilloiw

Here is the Snowman pillow all pieced. It is larger that the pillows we normally have out so I decided to turn it into a table topper.

Aurifil Thread for the Quilting

I used the red mitten fabric for the backing and binding and use a 50wt Aurifil thread in the color 2615 which is a gray that really goes well on the white background and also on the prints. The color is actually Aurifil Aluminum.

Quilting on the Snowman Table Topper

I forgot to use the white fabric with the dots and instead used a white fabric from my stash. Here is a better photo of the quilting and how the “aluminum” color of thread blends.

Finished Snowman Table Topper

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I received in the Quilted Cow subscription box and my Snowman Table Topper.

I estimated a value of $96. for the $60.00 box. What do you think of this?

Love your table toppers! I was looking at the spool of thread and noticed that it is marked 50/2. I have seen a new brand at a store marked 50/3. What does that mean?? After 15 years of quilting, this is the first time I have ever seen thread marked like that!?!?!?

Love your table topper. Your unpacking video was cool. I would say you got more than your money’s work with this box. I’d really like to know who the manufacturer is on the panel. I like those snowmen!
