It is Monday again and I may be late in the day but….here is my Monday Happenings 23 in my studio post.

Monday Happenings 23 In My Studio

It has been hot this week in Iowa and I’m spending most of my time inside unless I’m checking on my raised beds. Even Rusty doesn’t want to spend much time outside.

I am really liking my ironing table set up on this side of my studio. I can look at my Midnight Glow quilt that is hanging on my Quilt Keeper.

Silly Scrap Snake Won!

My Silly Scrap Snake won in the Island Batik contest this month! I just found out I won but I haven’t heard which of you won. Please let me know and thanks so much to everyone voting for me.

Working on a Quilt

I am using a layer cake from Sherri & Chelsi called Strawberry Lemonade to make a new quilt. This will be a fast and easy one! Here is their Laguna Sunrise layer cake that is available now.

Here are some of the blocks on my design wall. I’ll be sharing more on this soon.

Cardmaking

Yes, I am still really enjoying cardmaking and over the weekend I went to a cardmaking class with my daughter and grandson. We had so much fun and then came back to my house and made more cards!. Here are the 3 I made during the class at Taylor Expressions.

I have also added some new shelves to the guest bedroom right off my studio for our cardmaking supplies. I bought them on Amazon.

My daughter also has some of her things on one of these 6-tier bamboo shelves. I now have 4 of them!

Tomatoes

The cherry tomatoes are ripening and every day I’m getting a small basket of them. They are so good on a salad or I just eat them as a snack. We had to re-stake the plants as they started to fall over with all of the rain we have had.

I have both of the Growoya watering clay pots buried in the raised bed by my plants and I’m filling both of them every other day. They each hold 2 gallons of water. I bury them and you can just see the blue lid on the pot.

Brussel Sprouts

This year we decided to plant Brussel Sprouts. I’m going to have to read up on when we harvest them. Years ago I tried growing them and accidently let them go to seed. They are about the size of a nickel, do you think they are ready?

Rusty

I can’t have a blog post without Rusty! I think he is wondering why he is posing without a quilt!

  1. Sorry I haven’t written to say how much I enjoy your blog, my computer and I have had a virus for some time and just coming up for air. Of course I have 3 quilts started, 2 using your patterns, I like them as they are written so well I can understand them even when I’m not feeling my best. Thanks for the lovely pictures of the plants and Rusty too!

  2. Yea for the snake! Congratulations.

  3. Congrats on winning the Island Batik contest!
Enjoy seeing your craft room, which is so wonderful and very organized!
You have some great looking Brussel Sprouts. I love to bake these with some seasonings, and either Balsamic Vinegar or Teriyaki Sauce.
I’m trying to find some EZ and reasonably priced craft items to make for a craft sale…..very daunting task, especially reasonably priced with today’s fabric prices.

Your card supplies organization is so neat, mine used to be okay until I acquired so much!!

  5. Congratulations on the snake winning! It really is cute. I’m so envious of how clean and organized your studio is. It looks awesome – and gives you the creative space you need.

    Hello,
Congradulations!!!!I’m not a big snake fan,but I voted for you.Brussel sprouts can be tricky, its important that they dont grow too big,it looks really good and can be harvested any time you choose. I grew up with 300 acres in my backyard, with a slant slope of a mountain, which included a very large garden apple orchard strawberry field and other fruit trees and berries.Just love the picture of Rusty even without a quilt.

  7. Congratulations on your snake win.
I love your cards, very beautiful. Looks like lots work and a long time to create.
Your flowering marigolds in the picture with Rusty are amazing. They look very tall, must be your warmer weather and longer growing season than we have here in Northeast.
    Thanks for sharing.

  8. Congratulations on your snake win! That was really a great batik theme for the ambassadors. Your garden is doing so well. I would think the brussel sprouts need to be about quarter size. They grow fields of them down the road from us. I hope it cools down a bit for you.

  9. Growing up we would pick the brussel sprouts after the first light frost, they tasted better.

  10. Well hello Connie, and I am not surprised your sill snake won the contest. Many years ago, I made a similar toy for my son, eventually the dog at the time adopted it and I had to make another toy! The expression on your snake is priceless! Your ironing table is perfect, I wish I had room for a larger one. Right now I tend to steam the quilt while loading it on the frame, but a larger table would be so nice. To be honest, I would probably pile things up there as well!

Hot here in the East as well. And so humid that your clothes feel wet within a few minutes outside. Mosquitoes are the size of hummingbirds and on the move as well. I am a summer person, but I would like a bit of a break from the rain! Almost every day we have a storm, but absolutely nothing like the tragedy in Texas, my heart breaks for them.

We always harvested our Brussel sprouts after the first frost. My MIL claimed that the frost mitigated the bitterness often attributed to the vegetable.

Have a lovely summer week, thanks for sharing.

  11. Congratulations on your win! The snake was so darn cute!

  12. Congratulations on winning with your snake!! There was some pretty tough competition, so you deserve a pat on the back. Also, your craft/sewing space is looking good. Working with paper can be just as addicting as sewing. Ask me how I know that? haha Good thing that the paper cutting dies take less room than the fabric ones do.

Hi Connie: Congratulations on Silly Snake winning. Your new Strawberry Lemonade quilt will be stunning. Rusty looks a little cool in the grass. Love all of your storage shelves and cubes. I waste time looking for things and then I am out of energy to actually make something. I continue to be wildly in love with my watercolor journey. Your cards are gorgeous! Happy Summer Dear. 110F here this week with fires all around us. We are safe thankfully.
