Jacob’s Ladder Box Baby Quilt
24″ x 36″
I asked if anyone knew the name of the block I made but never heard anything so I’m going to call it Jacob’s Ladder Box for this baby quilt.
The batik fabrics are from the new Graphics Gem collection from Island Batik. I received the collection in my last Island Batik ambassador box and also the gray and white solid batiks that I used for my basic colors.
Jacob’s Ladder Box quilt pattern is now available as a PDF with instructions and full color diagrams to make it in 5 different sizes!
I only used the teal batiks for my blocks so I’ll have plenty of fabrics for another quilt project.
I always think it is funny how I can miss something that really pops out at me in a photo! Notice the top right corner of the Jacob’s Ladder quilt block, I forgot to quilt two of the white squares!
I hauled my white ladder downstairs and used it outside to take photos of my quilt. This is the same ladder I showed in my quilt photography backdrop post. I really miss my brick wall!
You can read my post on the Jacob’s Ladder variation block tutorial which has directions on how to make the block by rotary cutting or using AccuQuilt dies.
The quilt blocks can also be made in no time at all with the AccuQuilt cutter and 8 inch Qube dies which are on sale right now.
I did a simple meandering free motion quilting using white and teal Aurifil thread. Oops..another photo before I finished my quilting.

Leftover purple batik blocks
I originally was going to make the baby quilt bigger with a mixture of teal and purple blocks but changed my mind and just made a small quilt.

Love your version of Jacob’s Ladder. It is just the pattern that will showcase a favorite bunch of fabrics I have been saving! And that white ladder works great!
This is a beautiful baby quilt and I love the fabrics you used.
Hello Connie, This quilt is fabulous! Jacobs Ladder is one of my favorite blocks. Yet, the way that you designed this block around that block is brilliant! I imagine that you could easily have it published, if you so desired. I know that I will be making this quilt for sure! Thank you so much for sharing the tutorial! Have a wonderful day!
Thanks Brenda!
Such a pretty block and quilt. I haven’t seen that block before, so your name for it totally works!! Looking forward to making this!
Love this quilt – thought aha a signature quilt for retirement parties, wedding anniversary…..and so flexible. This is going to be the next wedding shower quilt I make unless I make your Fiesta or Star Dust. Might try this for a table runner first. The Fiesta has been staring me in the face while I collect the fabrics. So pretty.
Thanks,
Joan
A signature quilt is a great idea Joan!
