Island Batik Drunkards Path Challenge
This post may contain affiliate links which won’t change your price but will share a commission. For April, my quilt is the Island Batik Drunkards Path Challenge. I don’t do curved piecing that often and I had forgotten how much fun it could be.
Island Batik Drunkard’s Path Challenge
I used a solid black batik and some of my 5″ Stash Builders to create my quilt. The black batik really shows off the beautiful batik colors.
I found several shops that carry the 5″ Stash Builders.
April Drunkard’s Path Challenge
As an Island Batik Ambassador, I received all of the fabric from Island Batik/Lumin Fabrics, Hobbs batting, Aurifil thread and Schmetz needles that I used in my quilt. Twice a year we receive boxes with everything we need to make quilts and other projects through out the year.
Rusty
Rusty was happy to do a little posing with my quilt but wasn’t happy when he didn’t receive a treat. Poor guy is on a strict diet and no stairs or walks as he may have a ruptured disc.
AccuQuilt Dies
When AccuQuilt first came out with the Qubes, the Companion set included the Drunkard’s Path dies. I have no idea why they discontinued them. Now you can buy all of the Drunkard’s Path dies in different sizes instead of in the Qubes.
The 4″ finished Drunkard’s Path die is close to the size I used for my quilt.
Sewing
I usually just pin in 3 places when I make this block. I sew slow and make sure not to get any pleats in the back piece.
Looks like I sewed a little wonky at the end but the block still laid flat.
Trimming the blocks
I didn’t want as much black around the block so I trimmed all of my blocks to 4 1/4″, this also squared each block up.
Trimming the blocks
I didn’t want as much black around the block so I trimmed all of my blocks to 4 1/4″, this also squared each block up.
Quilting
I used more of the black batik for the backing when I longarm quilted my quilt. I also used a black Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 batting. This is the best batting to use on a black quilt.
54 x 66 Quilt
The quilt size is 54″ x 65″ which is a great lap size. I’m showing it here on a bed so you can see all of the blocks. There are five rows of four blocks.
Flutter
Picking a name for a quilt can be hard sometimes. From the time I made the first block I keep thinking of petals fluttering in the wind. What do you think of Flutter?
Giveaway!
I thought it would be fun to share some of the 5″ Stash Builder strips and 1 yard of the solid black Island Batik fabric. Each of those little rolls has 4 five inch strips the width of fabric so there is a little over 3 yards of fabric in my giveaway.
Please leave a comment letting me know if you have ever made the Drunkard’s Path quilt block.
This giveaway will expire April 22nd and is for United State only because of shipping costs, I’m so sorry.
The giveaway has ended and congratulations to Linda the winner. I have sent you an email.

This is beautiful, Connie! The colors really pop on the black background. And best of all, it’s Rusty approved!! I hope he is doing much better now.
I have not made a Drunkard Path quilt. I like the pattern but I’m just starting out so I need to follow a simple pattern to start.
Yes, I’ve made this block quite a long time ago. But I decided I wasn’t go to make a quilt with it.
I have not sewed a Drunkard’s Path quilt or even the block. I will tackle it some day, but I need more practice with sewing circular blocks. Your quilt is beautiful. Flutter is a good name for it. It reminds me of flowers being tossed gently. I’m so sorry Rusty is still suffering, but its good to hear he is doing some better.
Your quilt is beautiful. I would like to make one. I really like the bright colors. I have not made one in the past.
Hello Coonnie,
Yes I have made a Drunkard’s Path quilt. It was a year or so ago and I have yet to get it quilted. Please enter me in the drawing for fabric and make sure my name is chosen. ( ha ha)
Please pet. Rusty for me. I do hope he is getting better.
I have not made a Drunkards Path block or quilt. But I have done curved piecing for a block that I did in a block challenge at the quilt store where I sew on day a week. I dint find it very hard but I have made clothing.
Have not done a Drunkard’s Path quilt….BUT I have the templates, multiple Rainbow charm packs (pastel & medium dark) and black fabric. So, you may have just motivated me, once again to just “get going!!” Thanks Connie, love your posts and helpful info. Praying that Rusty gets better, he is such a sweetie!
I have never made a drunkards path quilt but absolutely love your flutter. Might have to break down and give this pattern a try even if only for a sample block. 😀 thanks for the giveaway and all the inspiration you share.
I have not made one but my Great Aunt Julia made me one out of purple flower and solid lilac fabrics long ago. There are some spots coming unsewn since she did it by hand. I need to go over it and give it some TLC. Your is quite lovely.
Your Drunkards Path on a black background is beautiful. I’ve done several table runners, but never made a throw sized or larger quilt.
I have never made the Drunkards pattern but would love to try it. Happy Easter. Hope I win 🙂
Rhonda Borne
I love the black in Flutter! I made a Drunkard’s Path years ago for my son. Poor Rusty, I pray that he gets better soon and gets his treats back.
I love your Flutter quilt. The black background makes the bright batiks really pop. I have made a Drunkards Path block but not a whole quilt using that block. I have a Go, I am going to get that die. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work with all of us.
I love your Flutter quilt. I think the name fits it perfectly! I like your pattern better than the traditional Drunkards Path.
I haven’t made a Drunkards Path pattern quilt as yet. I have quite a few Accuquilt dies though.
Almost 30 years ago when I was a new quilter, I decided to make a drunkards path quilt. It also had a black background ,and many print fabrics. I also hand quilted it, because at the time I had little kids and couldn’t afford to have it quilted professionally. I still have it hanging on a quilt ladder in my hallway.
I’ve never made a drunkards path but I love yours!
I bought a set of drunkards path templates several years ago but haven’t used them yet! Guess this might be the time because this quilt is so beautiful. Thank you for your great patterns.
Connie, your new version of “Drunkard’s Path” is awesome! And the name “Flutter” fits it perfectly! The pattern looks like one this novice quilter might like to try.
Hi..I have never made a drunkards path quilt.but yours is really beautiful..I would love to make one. Thank you for sharing..
Sue
Yes, I have made the drunkards path quilt block and was very surprised at how much easier it was than I thought. I used my accuquilt die. I really love your pattern idea and would never have thought to use the dark background, thanks for your great ideas!
I’ve nevered made a drunkard’s path quilt block..looking forward to making one. It looks awesome! Your quilt is beautiful 🥰 love your little cutie 💓 hope she gets better….
I have made a Drunkard’s Path quilt block. I have an early Accuquilt 8″ companion set that came with that die. I didn’t really get into it, but I love your design. The black and colors is so cool. I just might need to give this a try. Thank you!
I love the black background for the Drunkard’s path. I have never made a Drunkard’s path quilt. Would like to.
I have made a number of drunkard’s path variations. It is so easy to turn the blocks in so many ways. I am one of those people who love working with curves.
I’ve never made a quilt with curves, but it looks like fun!
Ive never made dunkards path or worked with batiks. Looks like fun!
Never made dunkards path but do have the template maybe I’ll try. Love your blog.
I love working with batiks and the gorgeous colors.
I’ve not tried curved pieces yet. I sew for Lutheran World Relief and focus more on quantity than creativity. But the curves would look great in the occasional baby quilts I make.
Thanks for your website and great information.
I have never tried tried this pattern but after seeing yours with that black batik background, it’s on my list. Beautiful quilt and the name “Flutter” fits it so well!
I have NEVER made a drunkards path quilt. I love your instructions and video tips.
Hi Connie!
I made a drunkens path pillow ages ago, using cardboard templates! Needless to say it was abit wonky.
Thanks for the chance to win! Your batik quilt is so pretty!
Good morning Connie,
Your Drunkards Path quilt is beautiful! I have never attempted sewing this quilt block – straight line sewing seems to be my thing for now. However, I would love to try those curves . . . “slow” and perhaps pinning makes it much easier. Of course, I’d love to win your beautiful Give-a-way fabric – batiks are gorgeous fabrics.
Thanks!
I have not made the drunkards path yet – but did my first curved piecing this winter.(Blue Onion) Looks like a fun one I need to try. thanks! Sher
Love drunkards path. Made a wall hanging 30 years ago.
Hi Connie, such a beautiful quilt, I love the bright colors against the black background. I have never made a drunkard’s path quilt but I do have the templates from MSQC, maybe, it’s time I give it a try.
I have never made a drunkard’s path quilt but all of the variations are tempting me to try.
Wow! Connie, your quilt is so beautiful. That black really shows off the other beautiful fabrics. I love it! I have never tried to make a Drunkards Path quilt or anything with curves for that matter. It always looked too hard and I was afraid to attempt it. I figured they would look more wonky than curved. Thank you for the giveaway.
I have never made a drunkard’s path quilt block, but it is on my “quilt bucket list”
Omg what a beautiful quilt! I’ve never made the Drunkards Path square, but it looks very interesting! And the colors just pop and complement each other! Would be interested in trying this square
I made a drunkards path block YEARS ago as part of a sampler. I love your quilt. It turned out beautiful! This is a good way to use up scraps. BTW I feel for poor Rusty.
I have never made the Drunkard’s Path block, or any other circular block. I need to give it a try.
No, I haven’t made the drunkards path yet. I do want to make it with what I call saw teeth.
I bought a template for Drunkard’s Path, but I haven’t decided what to do with it yet. I’m surprised how many possibilities there are!
I started making a queen size and ended up making a twin size. By the time I was finished with the twin I thought I should have made the queen. It got easier the more I made. Flutter was a good name.
I love this and really like how the colors pop on that black background. The name is perfect. I have such a hard time coming up with quilt names too.
Hi Connie,
I think “Flutter” is a perfect name for the quilt. It’s been a while since I made a Drunkard’s Path, and never with a dark background. I love the look of bright batiks on black!
I have not done a drunkard’s path quilt. I’ve done a couple of blocks but it’s on my list to do! I hope all is well with you!
Hi Connie, I love that quilt! It is gorgeous!! And poor Rusty, I feel sorry for him. My cat is on a diet too ! I hope he feels better soon,
I am so sorry Rusty is under the weather. Several years ago, we had a Golden Retriever that had the same problems. The vet told us to give her frozen green beans, they are crunchy and that says it is a treat. A few months ago the vet told my daughter the same thing. He told her how much to feed twice a day and no food on Saturday. But give him all the frozen green beans he wanted. He was to loose weight fast. It worked. He loved the green beans and is doing good. Your quilts are beautiful. I have done a few baby quilts. Nothing hard, yet. Hope Rusty gets better.
I have never made this quilt – Drunkard’s Path – but you inspire me to rectify that. Thank you!!
No, I have never made this block. Maybe this is a good time to try it! Sandy
I love the stark contrast between the black and the colors. Very striking. I actually made one drunkards path block. It was one of 4 blocks in a sampler quilt I made in my 2nd quilting class. It was all done by hand sewing. We had to make our templates, trace the shapes on our fabric and cut them out with scissors.
I have not made a Drunkard Path Quilt, yet. Glad to hear Rusty is on the mend. Poor baby. You just hate to see them in pain.
I love your bright & sparkly Drunkard’s Path block. I’ve never made this particular block, but it’s on my “bucket list” of projects.
Love the Drunkard’s path quilt!
Not yet. It is on my list to do.
I keep looking at the drunkards path patterns but have never tried one. I really like the look of your “Flutter” quilt…it’s not as fussy looking.
I have made a couple drunkard’s path blocks, on my very first quilt sampler that I made with Craftsy and Amy Gibson, back around 2011 or so! Thanks for the opportunity to win!
Love the way the colors pop with the black. I find it hard to do this type of drunkard’s path block with curves. Maybe I try and go too fast…hummm. I need to practice more. Praying for Rusty to heal. He still looks great even with no treats,,,poor baby….
Thanks for sharing your time and life with all of us.
Love drunkards path block, and have made a few, but love this different design. Also love batik. Beautiful quilt
This is a beautiful quilt with the black showing off the colors. I have only used the drunkard’s path in a small mug rug.
Kathy
Yes, I have made Drunkard Path blocks for a combination quilt blocks for a quilt.
I made a Drunkard’s Path bed runner for my daughter-in-law, so I don’t have a picture to share. If I had pictures of all the quilts I have given away, I would have quite an album! The curved piecing was easier than I thought it would be, and I got over my fear of it. Love the black background!
I’ll be praying for yall. It’s so hard to see our fur baby sick and in pain. I had to put my 16 yr old Maltese down a yr ago. The hardest decision I had to make.
I’ve never hard of this quilt pattern. I’m a new quilter. I just got my first quilt back from longarmer this week. Now I have that dreadful binding to put on it. But I’m so excited with my first quilt.
Your work is beautiful. Thank you for sending your blogs. I appreciate it.
Your flutter quilt is lovely. I have made a couple of drunkards path table runners. They turned out ok, not sure why I haven’t made any more. I enjoy keeping up on your blog, hope rusty is feeling better. Dieting is no fun for any of us
Usually a drunkers path block shows up in a sampler quilt…now you’ve peeked my interest to try making a quilt with just the drunkers path blocks….in batiks
I made a Drunkard’s Path quilt in batiks years ago. I gave it to my older sister to replace a quilt she lost to a house fire.
I’m happy to hear Rusty is feeling better!
Connie,
I have made a few drunkard’s path quilt blocks as sampler blocks. Your quilt is lovely. I like the black contrast.
I’ve never made a Drunkard’s Path quilt, but have admired some of the options made with the pattern. Your quilt is really pretty. Black always makes a quilt dramatic and attractive, in my opinion. I love the bright colors you chose. And, your sweet model makes it more beautiful!
I’ve never made a drunkards path quilt. Round pieces aren’t something I’m willing to take on yet. Perhaps in a couple more years. I do live the color choices for this. Black with bright is a personal favorite.
I haven’t made a quilt with Drunkard’s Path blocks yet, this pattern is great, especially since I love black backgrounds! So glad to hear Rusty is doing better!
Yes I made a sample block years ago. I love how your colors just pop with using the black.Really beautiful. You inspired me to make the quilt with a black background.
Thank You for sharing
Pat Hop good 🤗
I took a class years ago and made a pillow which I still have. I think I would like to try it again. Thank you for refreshing my memory.
Over my fifty years of quilting, I have periodically made drunkard path blocks — sometimes as part of a sampler quilt. sometimes as exchange blocks with my various quilt groups. sometimes as part of a landscape quilt. I have never made a quilt that is solely drunkard path blocks.
My first attempt at a drunkards path lock was using the Elenor Burns method. It made this block so easy! Later I learned it was a cheat way to make the block. Since I have made 2 quilts using the method you used . It is one of my favorite blocks. I would love to win and make another one!
Your quilt is just beautiful. I usually don’t like using black, but in this quilt it set it off. Drunkards Path is not something I have attempted to try yet, but after seeing this I will have to try it. Thanks for sharing.
Congratulations, Connie! It’s simply beautiful, and this is the first time I’ve ever been interested in trying the drunkard’s path myself.
I have never made the Drunkard’s Path. I would love to try it.
I have not made the Drunkard’s Path block but have a quilt of that pattern that my Mom made for our wedding present–would like to try one myself someday.
Yes once when I was taking a quilt class at the adult school. Enjoy your emails.
Connie this is a beautiful quilt!! Black is my current favorite for background with batiks and Kaffe too- the colors just pop! Best wishes to Rusty on his diet- I know my 2 pups are pretty devoted to treats too!
And I have never made a Drunkard’s Path Quilt- might be time to try out my AccQuilt cutter!! It sure would speed up cutting the “Flutter Petals”😉
The quilt is beautiful, I have never used the Drunken Path pattern but I just might give it a try.
Hello to you and Rusty. I too have a dog that was too fluffy. But the diet and restrictions on treats really help my little Spud. I first made a drinkers path quilt many years ago. But I used half a box of pins on each one to keep it flat. To think you only used 3! Thank you for the giveaway
Several years ago I made a small wall hanging with templets but have not been planning another one any time soon. Thanks for the chance to win.
Yes, I have made a Drunkards Path quilt – and didn’t find the curved seam that hard to do. Its a “technique” and your skill improves with every block. Don’t be discouraged if the first few blocks are kind of wonky. Sew slowly and use a stiletto and it will work out well. I found that the larger the block the easier was to sew the curve! P. S. I think the word Flutter is perfect!
I have never made a quilt using the Drunkard Path design. I have been sewing most of my life, started at age 17. My first husband taught me, he needed a seamtress for his upholstery shop. So for the next 20+ years I sewed cushions, throw pillows, arm covers and anything else that was furniture related. Even automobiles, boats, motorcycle seats. In between all that I made my kids clothes, the occasional quilt, kitchen curtains and a few outfits for myself. Then about 20 years ago I started to make quilts again. Curves are not the easiest for me, but I figure this design certainly would give me lots of practice.
It helps when my current husband cheers me on with tons of encouragement and compliments. Makes me feel like I can do anything.
I am new to quilting after years of sewing for kids and doing alterations on the side to help pay for groceries. The Drunkard’s Path Quilt pattern looks like a fun challenge. Love the colors and the contrast with the black. Happy Easter!
I have never made the Drunkards Path block, but think it is about time I do. Thanks for the instructions.
I made a small wall hanging with the drunkard’s path blocks laid out as doves. It was sold at a charity auction. I wouldn’t make any curved blocks without the curve master foot!
I think “Flutter” is a great name for the quilt. I’ve never made a Drunkard’s Path quilt…I tried once but while I’m great at straight seams getting a nice, smooth curve has eluded me for many years. I may try again soon with your pinning technique. Rusty looks happier in these photos…even looks like he’s smiling while sitting on the quilt! Blessings, Connie….and Happy Easter!
I’ve never made the Drunken Path Quilt. I’m planning to follow your instructions focusing on how to sew curves, I’m very new at curves and am self taught for the most part on quilting. I love your patterns Thank you, L. Green
Your Flutter quilt is gorgeous! My local quilt guild is having a ” Curved Piecing” workshop next month, I’m excited to attend since I’ve never attempted it before.
Good morning. What a striking quilt! I have not attempted a Drunkard’s path quilt pattern before but maybe one day. They are certainly beautiful . Thanks for the win opportunity.
Oh, this one is a beauty, Connie! I love the name Flutter since the colored curvy blocks look like wings fluttering in the air. Yes, I have made Drunkard’s Path blocks and had gotten really good with making them, but I haven’t made any in the past year. I’d likely have to start all over in building that skill again.
Hugs to sweet Rusty!
Tho I’ve never made a drunkards path quilt, yours is tempting me.
I have a question. You write that you trimmed your blocks to 4 1/2 inches square. For the life of me, I and see it. Your block looks like 5 x 5 to me. What am I missing?
Whooos! 4 1/4
I have never made the Drunkard’s Path quilt because it always looked so hard. However, you instructions make it look easy, and I would like to try my hand at making one.
I have never made the Drunkard’s Path quilt because it always looked so hard. However, you instructions make it look easy, and I would like to try my hand at making one.
Your quilt is lovely–I do love to use black backgrounds with bright colors! And the name is perfect. I really like the Drunkard’s path–versatile and not difficult once you get the hang of it! I haven’t made many Drunkard’s path quilts, but I have used that block! Thanks for sharing! Get well wishes for Rusty. Our dog had a similar back situation but his was quite severe and required immediate surgery. He made a good recovery and regained movement back he had started to lose. Same restrictions –he isn’t allowed to do stairs, etc. Hard for them to understand that! But he takes it in stride.
The first quilt I made was a drunkards path. I went to visit my mother, who was an excellent quilter, and we knocked it out over the week I was there. She had it hand quilted for me as a way to encourage me to quilt some more. Later, I “discovered” you weren’t supposed to start quilting with curved pieces. LOL. I’ve made over 300 quilts since then, so Mom’s encouragement worked!
Your quilt is beautiful! I love how the colors pop. I prefer to avoid curves. This quilt may change my mind. I’d be thrilled to win a giveaway. Thanks so much for being so generous!
Hi Connie,
Yes, I’ve done a Drunkard’s path in light and dark bstiks, it was many years ago, and yes, it was fun! Not scary at all! Everyone should try it.
You are probably tired of doggie advice, but could you give Rusty a little carrot piece as a treat or a cooked green bean? Veggies are usually harmless and low calorie…. I do hope he’s better soon!
Joan
I’ve never made a Drunkard’s Path Quilt but have the templates to do so! Seeing your quilt has made me want to try it – love the batiks…
Thanks for the inspiration! Have a blessed day and sure hope Rusty heals soon.
Diana
-First want to say glad Rusty is feeling better. I too have back issues, lower back with disc problems. Need follow up with doctor regarding shots vs surgery.
Meanwhile Yes my very first quilt was Drunkards Path 1979-80. Quilting was just making a comeback. This of course was before rotary cutters and plastic templates. File folder or thin cardboard template. I enjoyed it so much I believe I have made another one but as a gift.
Would you kindly enter me in the give away? Gorgeous fabric. Would love to make a new one with modern fabric.
Hi Connie, I have never made a Drunkard’s Path quilt but I love how yours turned out with the black background. I made a quilt last year with a navy blue background which was really different for me. I hope little Rusty is on the road to recovery. It is so hard when our pets don’t feel well. Thank you for the videos!
I like your layout. The colors pop off that black background. I’ve never made a drunkards path block but I recently found a 4 or 4.5 inch drunkards path ruler in my old 90s quilt things that are in a storage bin. Hope to try it out sometime soon.
I love the colors with the black background. I’ve made the Drunkard’s path block a few times. The curves aren’t so bad once you learn how to make them.
Never made a Drunkard Path quilt. Have made a few blocks for practice. I find them fairly easy to make. Love the black background on your quilt. Makes colors pop. That is an encouragement for me to start (hopefully finish😊) a similar one. Thanks.
I think I would like to try a Drunkard’s path. I really like the one you made.
Very pretty! Yes I have made drunkards path blocks
What a beautiful quilt ! I have not yet made a Drunkerds Path but it is on my to do list. Thank you for the inspiration.
I have not made a drunkard path quilt yet. I have thought about it, but have always been a little afraid.
It is on my bucket list of quilts I want to make. Would love to win
I have always wanted to make a Drunkard Path quilt, but the half circles have always scared me. You make it look easy. Thank you
I have not made a drunkard’s path quilt. The one you made is quite lovely.
I really like the bright batiks with the black background. It gives it somewhat of a pinwheel effect and doesn’t look as much like a drunkards path. Thank you for sharing.
I have not made a DP quilt. Your use of black to make them pop is great.
Flutter is a good choice.
Yes I have made a Drunkard’s Path wall hanging and a full sized quilt…20+ years ago…with plastic templates. I was a much younger quilter then. Accuquilt is the way to go now! Thank you.
I want to participate in the giveaway. That quilt will be the first one of that kind for me. Thank you for all you share.
I have made the blocks before using 2 different sizes of the Drunkards Path dies. I’m currently making Seagulls with them. I started out making the quilt and realized I needed the other size so I’ve also bought it 🤪. It’s currently a UFO and this has now prompted me to move it up in my que to do next 😁 Thanks so much for the inspiration 😘
I have made several Drunkard’s Path quilts. I have the Accuquilt dies which greatly simplifies cutting. My Guild had a Drunkard’s Path workshop a few years aago and I cut everyone’s fabric with my Accuquilt. When I built my quilt studio, I had them put in a curved walkway which I call my Drunkard’s Path!
Love your quilt. Black background is always so dramatic. Never have done Drunkards path myself. Your explanation on how to sew and trim is excellent. I am a fan of trimming, especially half squares. You reminded me I need black batting for a bow tie quilt that has a black background and is ready for my long arm. Good job.
It is a gorgeous quilt made with the black batik fabric. I took a New York Beauty quilt class a couple years ago and it turned out stunning. Sewing the curve take time and patience; and if you have them it will make a beautiful quilt. Years ago saw a scrappy drunkard path quilt made with a muslin background and have wanted to make it ever since. Keep up the blogging, long time follower even when you were on the river. Robert, from northern Iowa.
Love the quilt and I think Flutter is the perfect name. I’ve made two drunkards path quilts. They were easier than I thought they would be. Once you get the hang of it, curved piecing isn’t that hard. Hugs to Rusty!
I have never made a drunkards path quilt.
I have never made the Dunkard Path quilt, It is on my list of quilts to make. I really like the Batiks with the black.
The quilt is beautiful! I love it displayed on the stairs. Sweet Rusty! I love the picture of him in front of the beautiful quilt.
I have not made a drunkard path block but they way you describe it, makes me want to tell try.
I think Flutter is a good name and is fitting.
Wow, So Pretty. I love the batiks with the black background. I have never made the Drunkards path block but I actually just purchased a drunkards path ruler. I want to try this block. Thank you for sharing. Rusty is adorable and hope he heals quickly.
Thank you for showing your beautiful quilt.
I have never made a Drunker path. Would love to learn and try
This is one of the best DP quilts I’ve seen! Love those colors on black, and the name Flutter is perfect. I have made one DP quilt years ago, but I’ve been working on scrappy Drunkard’s Path blocks this spring. The “pie” section is a neutral cream/beige scrappy string and the backgrounds have been a variety of colors.
Never made this type quilt. Beautiful however!
No, I have never made the Drunkard’s Path block, but have sewn other curved blocks. Very pretty quilt!
I enjoy seeing your Rusty with your quilts. I have made the drunkard man’s path block a few times. It is not my favorite block.
I love using black for the background when I use bright batiks. I’ve made several Drunkards Path blocks for sampler quilts. It does get easier the more I make. Sorry about Rusty’s painful condition and hope it gets better quickly so you two can resume your walks!
I have not made this pattern, but would like to try.
Beautiful quilt. The bright colors pop against the black background.
I started a Drunkard’s Path quilt a few years ago, but got frustrated trying to sew the two pieces together. I was using 10″ Layer Cake squares from which to cut the pieces. I have a DP tablerunner pattern that I had planned to make so may give it another try.
Hope Rusty will soon be much better.
A Blessed Easter to all.
No, I have never made a drunkard’s path. Yours looks like beautiful flowers.
I have not tried to make it, the curves sorta scare me. Maybe I need to put it on my to try list.
Oh my gosh. The Flutter quilt is stunning. I have not attempted a drunken path but I sure as inspired to now. I love island batiks and I have a huge tote of them to choose from.
It is a BEAUTIFUL quilt Connie! I was looking for a video on this and then seen it was on your blog LOL… Anyway I have never made a quilt like this and can say you made it look easy. I’m glad to hear about Rusty. I sure hope he makes a full recovery.
Hi Connie,
I have never made a Drunkard’s Path Quilt before. I always try to learn a new pattern or technique on each quilt that I make. I really like the bright colors against the black background. I would love to try this pattern with the colors you have selected. The black background really made those colors pop.

Beautiful quilt and a cool look for drunkards path. I haven’t tried that block but now I want to.
I’ve done a drunkard’s path for a class and learned this same way. Once you get used to it, it’s pretty easy.
Hope Rusty starts feeling better real soon. Poor little guy. Hugs!
Hi Connie,
I haven’t made drunkard’s path except in a sampler block in the 1980s! It’s been on my list. Love your batik version!
I’ve never made a Drunkard’s path, but you sure make it look easy!
Connie your drunkards path quilt is beautiful! I have never made a full drunkards path quilt but have made a drunkards path block or two for a quilt. I would like to get your pattern for this quilt and give it a go! I like to keep improving my skills!
I started making a drunkard path lap quilt using black batik but I haven’t finished it Yet yet
Good morning, Connie, I haven’t made one yet. I have a fear of curved piecing. Someday I will get over it. I really love the colors of your quilt. The vibrant colors against the black is so pretty. Have a good day.
I haven’t made a drunkard’s path yet. I do want to try it and have templates. Yours is stunning.
I’ve never made a drunkard’s path quilt. I guess I am a little too cautious of sewing with that many curves. Thanks for the giveaway of those beautiful fabrics.
What an eye catching quilt, Connie! Love the black background with the batiks! Thanks for all that you share with us! Hope Rusty is on the mend, it’s so hard when our little fur babies are not well.
Happy Birthday, Connie!!
This is SO pretty. I haven’t done this pattern or any curves. I’ve been nervous to do this type of sewing because I’m not so sure I could get it to lay flat. I do have one template for a curve. Maybe one of these super hot days of summer (they will be here before we know it) I will tackle this. I was thinking of looking into the AccuQuilt too. It doesn’t bother me to cut fabric, but I can see where it would be useful with this type of pattern.
Have a great day!
Sherry 🙂
I love your quilt!! The black really makes the colors pop. Hope your fur baby gets better real soon. I have not made a Drunkards Path quilt, but I am so intrigued that it is now on my list.
I have made the drunken path block. It is challenging sewing the curve but can be done. Once you do a few blocks it gets easier to do.
I’m an advanced beginning quilter and have never tried any curved piecing. Your quilt is absolutely beautiful!!!
I have made a few drunkards path blocks but they became a pillow instead of a quilt. I have ordered some black fabric so I can try your version with my batik stash. Stunning!
Beautiful quilt, love the black background. I made a Drunkards Path years ago when I first started quilting. It looked like it was drunk…maybe I’ll give it another try.
I have never made one Afraid of the curves
Connie,
I have never done a Drunkard’s Path quilt. Those curves scare me!! If I win, I’ll see what I can do with them and Drunkard’s Path!

Wow! A beautiful quilt Connie the black background makes the batiks pop! Gorgeous! I hope Rusty feels better as each day goes by. God Bless you! Happy Easter!🐣
Your quilt is just lovely! I have yet to make a drunkard’s path quilt but it is on my to-do list.
Simply Stunning! The contrast of those vibrant Island batiks against that black background is wonderful! It shows off the pattern and the fabrics so well. As usual Connie, your descriptions and explanations of your projects are so thorough that you push me out of my comfort zone – I’m going to seriously consider trying this – you’ve not failed me yet! Hope Rusty gets better soon.
Hope you had a lovely birthday with plenty of treats. Sorry to hear that Rusty has been unwell, but good to know he is starting to feel better. A lesson to us all not to eat too many snacks !!!! 😄😄. The Drunkards Path quilt is beautiful.
Your quilt turned out really nice. I have never tried drunkards path pattern.
I love the colors you used and the black background.
Hope Rusty feels better soon!
I have never tried the Drunkards path but am inspired by your color choices to make one!
Flutter would be good. It reminds me of our apple blossom petals on the ground after a wind storm.
A Drunkards Path block was part of a sampler project at my LQS. I did it, but there are other blocks involving curved piecing that I’ve enjoyed way more.
I have been quilting for a long time but have never made a Drunkards Path quilt. Yours is beautiful. I’ll be sure to check out some of the other quilts in the Island Batik challenge.
Flutter is lovely! I have an affection for navy and black backgrounds as they enhance bright colored piecing. A while back I made a drunkards path quilt and now feel inspired to give it another go, so thank you! (and best wishes to Rusty)
Loved this quilt and I agree it looks like flowers! I have never made a Drunkard’s Path and I am now feeling inspired.
I’ve not made the Drunkard Path quilt, but yours is a great variation of the the graphic you show in the post. The black makes all the colors look like they are floating!
I am learning how to make the drunkard’s path block. I need more practice. 😁
Hi Connie – I have made the drunkards path block. It was my first attempt at curved piecing and I was thrilled when I found it was something I could do! My pup Lucy is on a treat reduction plan too and she sends loving support to Rusty.
I have not attempted making a quilt like that yet. I have the templates but haven’t done it yet. I love the black background color you used. It makes it all pop so beautifully. I also love the stair rail you display them on. They look lovely hanging there.
