Happening in my studio #9

It has been a bit since I did a Happening in my studio #9. I have all kinds of quilt projects that I’m working on and many I won’t be sharing for a while.

I really need to start quilting some of these which means clearing off my longarm. This looks like a mess plus I have other quilt projects that I can’t show.

My old longarm

I still have my old longarm, last week I got a call from Nolting that they were ready to paint my new longarm and it was time for the second payment, gulp.

I think it will be done next month. I am going to try and get most of my quilts quilted before it comes as I am sure there will be a learning curve with the new one. I am excited and nervous at the same time.

My May UFO #4

I still haven’t started working on my May UFO, have you? Last night I thought of something I want to make with these fabrics and hopefully today I’ll cut out one block to test it. Gosh, the month is already half over!

Granny Square

I seldom work on just one quilt project. I try but then another idea pops up while I working on it and down the rabbit hole I go. Do you like to work on more than one project?

Affinity Table Runner

This is the table runner we have on our table this month. I know I made this with Island Batik fabrics so I’m sure it was an ambassador project. Did I ever do a post? I can’t find one.

Anyway, I used my Affinity quilt block making 3 blocks for the table runner. The quilt blocks are 12 inches and the runner is 12″ x 36″.

I have a free tutorial for the Affinity quilt block but it is a 16 inch block.

I also have a quilt pattern for the Affinity quilt.

Squirrels and Ducks

I really enjoy seeing the squirrels and ducks every day. The female mallard duck moved too fast and she is already in the “jungle”. Can you see both squirrels?

I normally cut back some of the Sumac plants but the ducks really like laying in them and it creates shade for them. I call this my jungle1

Raised Beds

My tomato plants are looking good. I have cherry tomatoes and regular tomatoes plus beans. I always plant marigolds and basil to keep the bugs away from my plants. Thank goodness the plants are getting big as our squirrels kept thinking this was a great place to bury their peanuts (that we buy them) and would pull out a plant.

dd was the best investment we made two years ago.

Raised beds

I am still using my Growoya watering pots but this year I only put one in each of my large raised beds. I’ll see how that works this year or if I should have two in each bed. My cherry tomatoes did great last year even when it was really hot.

Farmers Market Des Moines

I had so much fun this weekend going to the Farmers Market in Des Moines. We have lived here 4 years and this was the first time I’ve gone. It is so neat and huge! It spans 12 city blocks with over 300 vendors. I also found out there are more than a dozen Farmers’ Markets in our area!

It is on Saturday from 7-12, we got there a little after 7 and the crowds weren’t bad but by 10…it was people and dogs everywhere. My daughter took me and we really had fun shopping and ended up carrying way too many things by the end. You definitely want to go early and the food! Every kind you can think of!

  1. You have lots of pretty quilts waiting to be quilted. I hope the new long arm doesn’t have too big of a learning curve when it arrives.

What a huge farmer’s market! How do you figure out where to look? Sioux Falls has a wonderful one on Saturdays down at Falls Park. I’ve gone with the daughter and the kids a few times. But here in Mitchell they can’t even seem to fill up one downtown parking lot with a farmer’s market.

  2. I have a lot of projects going at once. Currently I am recovering from a knee replacement surgery. So, no standing at the long arm and very short periods of sitting and sewing.
In SoCal we have town on the beach called Carlsbad and they have had a street fair for years that have miles of vendors. I have never been; something always prevents me from going. But now that I have gotten a fixed knee, next year it is on my must do list!

  3. Haven’t been to a Farmers Market EVER! Looks like a lot of fun! (oddly I see the husband who looks like he’s trying to escape! LOL) LOVE the quilts and the holiday fabric. Was quilting yesterday and didn’t pay attention and put a pleat in the center of the back! “As I sew, so will I rip.” sigh. Thanks for all the wonderful inspiring photos!

    1. You do such beautiful work, hope resolve your tension, gets, resolved, so you’ll be a big pro qhen the nre one arrives. We use ab 5 lbs cut up carrots / wk& neighborhood rabbits come early 4:30, but my time is 5:30 to put carrots , there’s 5 regular & ab 4 late comers. T y for great shopping pic. Unable to drive to go shopping, so sewing for my church keeps me going.( lol)

      1. Hi Mary, I’m go glad another person feeds the rabbits! Thank goodness my garden is in raised beds. I think we have 3 rabbits now. I told my husband it would be fun if we could put paint on them and know which is which. Thank you for caring about them also, I just sent my husband out with another carrot.

I’d love to get the measurement for the pieces for the 12″ Affinity block. The runner is very nice.

    Thanks,

    Elle

I love working on more than one project at a time too. So much inspiration and I want to make all the things. 😂But I can say I never feel bored and I still love to see what’s new, and what others are doing. Enjoy your week.

Which Nolting are you getting? I moved up to a Diamond about 2 years ago and was able to get a show model for a good discount plus the trade in so I had to take whatever color it was (dark Purple). I found that sometimes it is heavy when I am doing free motion curves. I don’t do pantos or automation.
