February 2026 Mid-month Check-in

I thought I would let you see how I’m doing on my February UFO Challenge and also share a couple of other things I’ll be working on.

February 2026 Mid-month Check-in

4 Quilt Projects

Each month I draw a number and that is the UFO – unfinished quilt project I’ll be working on for the month. This month I drew the 4 quilted bag projects that I purchased last year as part of the Sewer’s Club.

Well guess what – I have 2 done so far!

Don’t forget you can enter your February UFO in my giveaway here.

March Quilt Project

I just received fabrics for a quilt project that I’ll be making in March for Missouri Star Quilt Co. I picked the Blooming Day & Night by Jason Yenter fat quarter bundle and also background yardage of Tula Pink’s True Colors – Fairy Dust White.

Snips & Shears

Missouri Star Quilt Co also included the Nova Rag Snips and the Kina Mini Shears. I can never have too many cutting utensils.

Sew in Love

This is the sweetest embroidery stitch pack! It is called Sew in Love and I have the Perle Cotton Floss and also the Sew in Love Peel & Stitch wash-away sheets. What is nice about the Peel & Stitch kit is there is a image of each sheet with the colors used and information on how to do the stitching.

Turtle

I did a little turtle wall hanging with embroidery but I guess I never showed the finished piece. I did a Monday Happenings post about it.

This was from the Sweet Meadow Peel & Stitch.

  1. I love these fabrics and can’t wait to see what you make with the Jason Yenter fabric! He’s one of my favorite designers as well!

    1. Hopefully I’ll have a quilt with these fabrics finished next week. I ran out of the background fabric and have more ordered.

  2. Hi Connie, good to see the results of your February UFO project(s). Some time ago I had purchased 6 pre-cut star blocks (12″ finished) from an old BOM the seller hadn’t completed. Those blocks were sitting in my stash, so my February UFO was to pull those blocks out and finish them as a part of a baby quilt I had planned. I marked the 1/4″ seam allowance on every piece before stitching to be certain I was stitching the appropriate seam allowances. I made the first one everything was fine, I continued with the second block, marked the seam allowance on each of the pieces (used the same ruler) & finished the second only to discover the block was 11 3/4″ instead of 12 1/2″ – I was irritated, I checked all of the seams they were all a scant 1/4″ so Jack didn’t make an appearance, figured OK it was fixable with a border around the block to bring it to size – moved on to the third block – some of the pieces were cut on the wrong side of the fabrics (some should have been mirrored when they were cut) not just one shape but several. This was a commercially made kit by a well known fabric store with the pieces of each block pre-cut and packaged. However, I will continue on with remaining blocks before I return to the third block and replace the mis-cut pieces with fabrics from my stash. Keeping my fingers crossed the remaining blocks will be easier.

    1. I’ve had precut kits that were like that and learned the hard way that I have to premeasure every piece before sewing. It’s amazing how many precut kits have wonky cuts!

Oh my, Connie…Do you really want to know the weather in Alaska? It’s a bit chilly today- 3 degrees which feels like -13 according to our weather channel. I am feeling great about my quilting because I have concentrated on getting my UFOs finished. I have taken several items to the local Senior Center to have them quilted. I am going to quilt a couple with my Antique Singer machine. I am still doing straight line quilting, but I am getting more accurate and ready to try different designs. I just wanted to say hello and to remind you there are many of us who really enjoy your site, blogs and patterns.

    Thanks

    1. Thank you so much for your sweet comment Carol! I think straight line quilting looks beautiful, I actually do better with the stipple quilting as I start in the center of my quilt project. I like cold weather so your weather doesn’t sound bad.

    Hello,
My week started with lovely weather at 70 degrees,as I opened my sewing room window and its sweet smell. The next day we had a siren for a major dust storm, everything was completely reddish orange,so I stayed indoors working on 3 different quilt projects this week.Today its 50 degrees. My UFO’s I stopped counting when I reached 50. Besides traditional quilts I have a Bernina 770 QE Embroidery Machine.
    Have a great weekend,
    Hadassah Miriam

  5. My dogs need a bit of Rusty in them. They don’t want to go out if they see raindrops! Your February bags are coming along well. Those are so handy and pretty as well. That turtle wallhanging is adorable! I should do one of those for this house of tortoises. Enjoy your snow!

  6. The turtle wall hanging is very well done. Our winter seems to have vanished. We had a few really cold days in January, but it’s been in the 70s every day since then. It’s supposed to be 82 today! Love it! I hate winter. It does get cooler during the nights but I have an electric blanket.
