Quilted Feathered Heart Pillow Challenge
This post may contain affiliate links which won’t change your price but will share a commission.Surprise, surprise……another pillow! I do love making pillows and I have a feeling I will be making lots of them this year. Poor Builder Bob just shakes his head.
I am taking part in the 2015 Free-motion Quilting Challenge that Darlene at QuiltShopGal is hosting.
Option #3 is the feathered heart design by LuAnn Kessi. You can see all of her beautiful quilting sketches here.
Option #2 was a heart design by Frances Moore and I remember doing it in 2012 but I can’t find my old post.
I thought LuAnn’s feathered heart design was really neat and I drew the spines with my Frixion pen and then did a few of the feathers on the right side. Then I got brave and just started quilting. I don’t know if you can see but…..right away I was off the lines.
I think I did pretty good except for the center top……I completely got lost there. I think doing white on white made it hard but…..if I had used red thread I think it would have looked pretty messy. Do you like my vintage iron? I love the weight of it and boy does it get hot!
Save this for later!
Don't worry, I promise not to spam you.
For the background, I just marked lines every inch to keep me going straight and then just did straight free-motion lines close together. Ignore the thread tied around my sewing machine…..I still haven’t attached my LED light permanently.
Here is a closer look at the background quilting. I used muslin for my pillow and Warm & Natural cotton batting. The thread was Glide and I just did an envelope back on the pillow.
The quilt the pillow is on is a pattern that will be available soon. I have made it in 3 different variations of colors and just love it.

It looks great and I didn't notice the top center until you mentioned it and I looked closer.
Beautiful pillow Connie. I really don't think anyone is going to even notice that you weren't right on the lines at all. It looks great.
And the little sneak peek of the quilt under that pillow is just enough for me to know that I am going to love it. I can't wait to see more of that one.
Really lovely. It is subtle and has a bit of an elegant look. So nice.
It's a lovely pillow and your did a wonderful job – super tutorial on how you did it. I can draw feathers till the cows come home, but making them on the machine – my left/right brain just doesn't work there.
How divine to quilt a heart with white on white. Very ethereal and beautiful. Creative Heart Bliss…
Those straight lines were a perfect choice with your feathers. Another great pillow, Connie
I think you did a great job Connie…we need time to get used to these curves.
Gorgeous… great job!
Gorgeous pillow. That would make a lovely wedding or bridal shower gift. I really like those skinny lines filling in the backgrounds because it sure makes the heart pop out.
Lovely quilting skills in your oh so pretty pillow!
Connie, it is so elegant. No one would ever notice if you got lost a time or two.
What a lovely pillow, perfect for a cold and snowy February! I think that your heart is beautifully quilted. It doesn't matter that you didn't follow your lines… the result is beautiful. I like white on white. Calm. Sophisticated. 🙂
this is lovely. thank you for sharing how simple this is. Just looking at it, it seems intimidating. I have not done FMQ really yet. (started practicing, then my son got engaged, so wedding sewing commenced, will start again in June or July)
It is a lovely pillow, Connie! I also participated in the 2012 FMQ Challenge. This year will be just as much fun!
squeal! LOVE IT LOVE IT!
