I finished up my Tinker Tote and had Builder Bob take a few pictures yesterday so you could see it.

This is a big tote and I like it! The fabrics are Origin by Basic Grey which came out a couple of years ago.

I also used the same fabrics to make a Mini Scattered quilt.

I always line my totes in a light color to make it easier for me to see what I stash in them. The only zipper I had on hand was a dark brown one.

I like magnetic clasps and if you’ve never put one in she shows you step by step in the video. I love the scrappy look!

These are some photos of the steps to make the tote!

I couldn’t resist showing you the Tinker Tote even though it isn’t done. I am close though!! This is what was all over my quilt room floor yesterday while I was piecing the tote.

I just happened to have a jelly roll, layer cake, and….a couple of yards of Origin by Basic Grey that had aged…..just a year or…two.

I didn’t even cut into the layer cake….maybe I should have so I could have used some bigger pieces.

I know it is hard to believe that I am sewing on something different than my vintage Singer but I have to say that the walking foot that I now have for this machine is wonderful! I will admit that when it came time to sew the side seams I used my 15-91 Singer as it will sew through anything! I need to get the binding done and then I’ll show you the finished bag!

I am sorry to say that it doesn’t seem like the pattern for the Tinker Tote is available anymore. If anyone finds it, please let me know so I can link to it.

Your patterns are amazing and I love them. I just wish I made more of them. We are warm here but not as warm as you are there. Have a great day and I’ll stay on your web. Greetings from Alaska. Nancy

Oh that tote is amazing Connie, Im going to click your link and also sign up for this class. Thanks.
    Your fabrics are so NICE!

  3. Nice job on the tote! I think I have that class in my library but haven't watched it yet.

  4. The tote looks wonderful. You are lucky to have such an attractive model to show it off. It's hard to get used to you holding something other than a pelican.
I'm sure you have inspired a lot of us who signed up for the class, but haven't started it yet.

  5. Love it! reminds me of this jacket pattern I bought that's brick pieces like this…. I SHOULD start it.

I will join the others, your tote looks fantastic! I am a regular with Craftsy, but am signed up for the free bag basics class 🙂 You look so much like my mom with short hair 🙂

This is lovely. Love the size too. Have the perfect fabric to make one. Thanks for sharing.

  9. super job on the tote. Like you I love a light lining. Now if only the purse manufacturers would get the message.

Hey Connie, Did not realize I was no reply, I think I fixed it? Check and see if you would!? Nancy

great tote, Connie and what a good idea to use a light colored lining so make it easier on one's eyes!!

  12. I think this is the greatest tote and I love that fabric line used in it. I always use a lite lining in totes, bags, wallets – makes it so much easier to find hidden treasures (or the kitchen sink).

  13. I love how this turned out! I wasn't really sure how big it was until it was next to you. Even though patterns give measurements, I have trouble visualizing them and often find them bigger or smaller than I expected. Great job!

  14. It looks great, Connie, and I like the size. I need something to haul quilts, etc. to guild meetings and this looks about right … or as one of our members says, big enough for a small toddler if you see a cute one. lol
I haven't started mine yet but expect I will in about three weeks … that's my expected retirement date. Yay!!

The Tinker Tote was my first purse I made back in April and since then I have gone crazy making bags… I made my Tinker Tote at 85% of the pattern size and love it! I have compliments on it everywhere I go! Love your colors!!!

  16. Wow Connie, That turned out really nice! I love your fabric and the wonderful zipper inside. The binding just makes it. Darn I have to admit I haven't started ;-( One question??
Is there a way to make it smaller? I am so short I think it would be a little large for me. Thanks again for the little nudge.

  17. Connie, you and your tote are beautiful! Well done!

  18. That is really fabulous. I love those fabrics in it. You did a great job on it.
