Time to paint the quilt studio

Yesterday my intention was to finish up a small table topper that would be perfect for the 4th of July next week. I finished four blocks and then decided I wanted it to be rectangular instead of square so I made 2 more blocks. I sewed the blocks together and then added a border. Time to quilt it!

I have my ironing table set up next to my sewing machine.

I’m not sure if I’ll get this done before the holiday but I have several other tutorials you might enjoy.
Setting up the longarm
Builder Bob put the longarm back together. When our grandson came over we had him help get it off the sawhorses. There was a part missing when we hooked up the electrical. Something that attaches to the Encoder. I’m not even sure what the Encoder does. I guess I’ll find out when I try and quilt.
We live a couple of hours from Nolting and I would like to go to their open house in July.

Change of plans
And then it happened, I kept looking at that spot on the wall where the past owners had a table attached to the wall and when they removed it, there was this ugly mess.

Looks like the wall were blue at one time! I decided it needed to be painted. So far I have it primed and today I’ll paint the wall Alabaster, which I used in my studio in Maquoketa.
So I started moving everything away from the walls and made a mess.

Kitchen floor disaster
We still have no idea when our kitchen floor will be replaced after the water damage. The ceiling in my quilt studio will also be painted which is why I thought this would be a good time to paint the dark walls. I hate painting because I’m not very good at it.
So far I have 2 small sections primed.

Poor Rusty is wondering if we are moving again!

Carpet in the quilt studio
Several people had mentioned that they didn’t like carpet, especially thick carpet in the studio and to watch for pins. It isn’t my favorite either but I’ll be careful as Rusty will always be with me and I don’t like to wear shoes.
Plans for today
My plan today is to spend the day painting the walls so I can brighten up my quilt studio, wish me luck!

Awesome space! You’ll make it look great!
It’s going to be wonderful when the painting is done, and everything is in order. Wish I lived close, I love to paint.
Make sure you take breaks in the fresh air with Rusty.
You’ll love it once it’s done. What a nice big studio! I hate painting too, and so I hired it done when we finished our basement. It was too big of a job and I knew I’d never get it done.
Didn’t take you long to have to dive into that painting project. It is no fun staring at walls you don’t love. Rusty just wants things to settle down…poor fella…hard to distinguish between a real move and a temporary move.
How big is your quilting studio?
Is there a pattern for the red and blue topper that you showed the blocks for. Love your website
You make me laugh, Connie. I moved on May 23rd and am not even close to being settled in — and you’re painting walls! It’s pretty obvious that you have a lot more energy than I. In fact, yesterday I took a nap from 3 to 4. Went to dinner at 5. Got home at 6:30 and took another nap until 10:30. Walked Ziva and then went to bed. Hmm, guess that’s why I’m not making much progress. Today, I’ve done better, but not by much. I suppose it’s a good thing that my place was painted before I moved in. Your studio is going to be amazing. It already is. How nice that you are so close to Noltings. That could come in really handy.
It’s always nice when the job is finished! We’re in the middle of tearing down wallpaper, so I feel your pain. I love those Fourth of July blocks! Enjoy the holiday.
I’m with you as far as painting goes, but you’ll be glad to have it done. Once all the chaos is done you will be able to enjoy the studio to its fullest. I’ll bet you’d learn a lot at the Nolting open house. We just crossed the Iowa state line. Loving all the healthy looking fields.
Wow you are like a energizer bunny rabbit . I use to love to paint but can`t no more . You are doing an amazing job and Rusty is great helper and you and him will have so much fun when yaw are finished. Love the color . Prayers that they get to the floor soon . Take care
Your room will look great with your new color. It is alot of work, but will be worth it when your done. Your room is huge compared to my small room. I’m working on a table runner right now for a gift, otherwise I would be outside in the warm weather. Good luck with your painting.
Love the new studio and am a little envious of the big space. Are you still in Ankeny?
Since you’re still setting up your new home and studio I am hesitant to even ask but! Those blocks you are making into the rectangle table runner/topper are beautiful! Have you shared how you made those already so I can try one?
You new studio looks like a lovely place! I too do not like painting. Hope it goes well for you!
It’s a beautiful wide open space, love that textured ceiling and a gorgeous view outside, it will bring much inspiration for quilting. I hope your painting goes well. I think you’ll enjoy it more with alabaster walls. I hope the encoder doesn’t have to do with the pattern selection you make. Rusty is quite a trooper adjusting to surgery, and the move, he seems to be at home here too. Also, hope you can get that floor replaced soon, a lot of changes to adjust to, but your quilting is always cheerful colors and patterns, it must be very therapeutic and cathartic. Have a blessed day!
It’s looking great! I’m with you, I don’t like painting and I am not good at it either. It will so wonderful when it’s done!
This is terrific. Waaaayyyyy beyond a professional/commercial space. The envy of many, no doubt. ENJOY…..
Have fun painting, than you can come & do mine, ha, ha!. I love your room, I’m jealous. My is a made over bedroom (nice), but my longarm has to be in the basement and I have an old machine set up down there to do the binding. My Happy would come down with me, she has a 2nd bed down there, but usually lays behind me. She is having problems with the stairs now. Since we have been having nice weather, I been outside more instead of sewing. I’ve got to get my rear in gear!
I wish you well and have fun.
I used to enjoy painting with a roller. The cut work…not so much! LOL I’m sure you’ll enjoy the alabaster walls and definitely will brighten up your studio! Poor Rusty. Maybe he’ll realize when you finish putting everything back in place that he doesn’t have to move again! Have fun, Connie!
