Quilt Studio is painted!

My quilt studio is all painted and looks bright and beautiful! Once I started painting I didn’t want to stop until it was all done.

It took me 2 1/2 days and late yesterday afternoon I had a lot of fun setting everything up again.

I have never been fond of painting but this time I think I was so excited to be able to get back to quilting that it was a challenge to see how fast I could get it done. It isn’t a perfect job but I am very happy with it. If you missed the color of the walls before, you should take a look at my post about setting up my new quilt studio.

Cutting table set up
Cutting table

I have the bins with my scraps cut into squares right under my cutting table. This makes it easy to cut them and then store the scraps by size. I keep my batiks and regular scraps separate.

Rusty was my helper

Rusty was right there during all of the painting. Both of us ended up with paint in our hair.

Every once in a while he would go lay on “his” bed in the guest room and watch me paint.

Filling the shelves

I am getting things on shelves, there is a small foyer when you come downstairs and I put 3 bookcases in there. I also started putting my batik fabrics on the white shelves.

I’ve got to have some color in the room and fabrics are the best way.

Before our move, I started ironing and folding my batiks pieces so they looked nice. Then we moved LOL. I am just putting them on the shelves in messy piles.

When I am working on a project I usually just grab a pile of a color and then go through them to pick what I want to use. These are all odd size pieces of batiks.

Quilt storage room

You can actually see the floor in my quilt storage room now. I still have more batiks to put out in the main room. You can’t really see all of the quilts but they are a jumbled mess that I will start organizing another day.

I think it is now time to work on that table runner you can see on my cutting table!

Ruler storage

When we lived by the Mississippi River, Builder Bob made me a shelf that held a lot of my rulers. For the last couple of years, I didn’t have a place to hang it and it usually sat on one of my cabinets. This morning he hung it up for me.

This is big and I can fit a 15-inch square ruler on half of the width. It will be great to use this again!

I hope you have enjoyed seeing the transformation of my studio, knowing me I’ll move things around again and again. I am so thankful for our new beautiful home and studio!

  1. Connie, it looks wonderful and I bet you can’t wait to start creating again. I have not got very far sorting out my quilt room. It is our Eldest’s bedroom and he has moved out, again, so I am back in camping. I had to put a lot of things away when he came home and they are at a storage unit we have and I think are right at the back so I will have to wait to sort it out!!! Am getting there though. Have a good weekend. Hugs, Susie xx

Wow! What a great space! The whole thing!! The quilt studio is so big!! Then the storage room!! And my husband thinks I have to much stuff!! I think your studio is bigger than our whole downstairs!! I’d be excited to paint it too, you have to love your space to be creative in it!

  3. I love your new quilting studio! It’s gorgeous! I will be converting a basement garage into my new sewing room this fall. I wish you could come design it for me! Lol I will be “borrowing “ a few of your ideas!

    Hi Connie!
I meant to write you about 3 emails ago! You posted a picture of Rusty with his head on a pillow, which is absolutely adorable. He is such a sweetheart!
Girl, you are on it!! Two and a half days to paint your studio, plus get everything all situated. And that doesn’t include getting the rest of your new home put away! Your studio looks so much better painted with alabaster. I can see why it is your favorite color! And I’m sure that Rusty is a great help keeping you company too. I love your ruler shelf on the wall. That was so nice of Builder Bob to make it for you. I think the last studio just didn’t have the same kind of atmosphere as this one does. This studio is so inviting and much better set up because room is already finished and the layout is nicer too, with beautiful carpet and so much natural light in the room. I’m loving that natural light! Such a fun place to be!
I’m hoping that you and your family had a great 4th of July! My son, Lincoln, bbq’d some steaks along with veggies and macaroni salad. Cake and ice cream for dessert!
Have a great time sewing in your new studio! I am so happy for you!

Gosh! What a transformation. It looks so much brighter. The photo that shows both colours together really highlights how depressing the original
colour was. Well done finishing it so quickly. I bet you feel so much happier now. A colour to brighten your day and give you inspiration. Happy quilting!

  15. LOVE your new paint color and the studio is grand !!!!!

  25. Congratulations on your gorgeous studio! We live in a motorhome, so I bought a rent-to-own building that serves as a quilt studio. I am contented with it and am trying not to be envious of all your wonderful space. I hope you are finally able to call this home forever. (I hate moving and at nearly 80 years “young” (:-) I wouldn’t have the stamina.)

  26. vicki gasorski says:

What a gorgeous studio!! Love the lighter walls. I used to have my own Carpenter Bob who made all kinds of things for me. Miss him and those skills. 38. Oh Connie !!!
I love love the brighter color !!
    So bright and clean ….
    Great creative space ….
Rusty is so lucky to be with you !!

  39. Cheryl Lincoln says:

Your studio is lovely! My sewing area is carpet and I hated not being able to glide my chair from side to side or any other direction without a struggle. I bought the plastic and bamboo chair mats and they were useless! Finally, I learned about glass chair mats, and boy am I thrilled with mine. They come in a variety of sizes and generlly there is no cost for shipping. The investment in a glass mat is is worth every penny.

I can’t imagine having such a large and varied material stash! I’m envious of your entire studio!

  40. Leslie Schofield says:

Love your new room. Has your sweet Rusty changed color? He seems so much darker now.

    Enjoy the holiday weekend.

  44. It looks great and there is plenty of room! Enjoy those flowers and all the animals you get to feed that live in your new neighborhood. Pet Rusty for me!
Very, very happy for you! Susan

  45. WOW… you’ve been very busy… Love the new look and how bright it looks now…. enjoy…..

  51. Dawn Nelson says:

The paint is a great step-up in brightening your studio. I would have done the same. Your room is huge and I can only imagine your glee in the wonderful space. How lovely to have windows that allow you a view of your gorgeous green area! I’m very happy for you, Bob and Rusty that you found a home in a place that you adore.

  52. Connie, I absolutely love the new studio. You have so much room! And I love all the color added by your fabrics. I’m sure you and Rusty will enjoy your time in that bright sunny room. Happy Fourth of July!

  53. Roxy Sherburne says:

Beautiful! Love the alabaster color you used! I used to love to paint, but now that I’m much older I do not enjoy it as much. I’m so glad you had a good helper. He looks so happy! I’m so glad you closed and sold your previous home. Wishing you all the best with your new kitchen flooring. We’re still in a mess with the bad siding job that did not meed code, and they finally contacted me on June 19th, and said they were ordering more product, but I also reminded them that the expectation was that the job was to meet code, and I have not heard from them since.
We’ve been busy here working on the Haunted Halloween QAL with Fat Quarter Shop. I got behind because of other QALs I was working on – Bountiful and American Made. I’m using foundation papers for the stars with flying geese for the points. It’s so much easier and much more accurate especially when they are only 1″X2″ finished size. Hope to finish the Haunted Halloween in a few days. Wishing you, Rusty, and Builder Bob a safe, and Happy 4th of July Holiday!

  54. Suzanne B says:

  56. Sherry Ellison says:

Connie Dear this is such a huge improvement over the previous drab colored walls. Now your studio is bright and cheerful and ready to function. It is a large and wonderful space. I can see Rusty approves of it and his guest room. Happy and Safe Fourth of July my friend.

  57. What a beautiful room. It looks so much nicer painted. I can’t wait to see it with quilts hanging off the walls. Enjoy your lovely new room and that wonderful view. I’m so happy that you and Bob found such a lovely new home. Congrats!!!

  58. Have enjoyed the tour of your new studio…absolutely beautiful!
Always look forward to new posts and pics
Thanks for sharing….enjoy your new home

  59. So exciting!!!! Even Rusty PERKED HIS EARS AND HIS EYES ARE OPEN!!!! Looks like the creativity has already started, painting and quilting at the same time! Do you have a pattern for the ruler holder? I keep mine in the file cabinet that has deep drawers but I have to take them all out to pick the one I want and I’d like it to be more user friendly
    Thanks and CONGRATULATIONS.

  60. Congratulations, Connie! It was fun to read all about your new painted studio and home. I love your windows looking out on all of that beautiful nature. What a fun place to quilt!

  61. Makes the room so much more cohesive. When you’re working on a quilt I think will not be so stressful when you think about the mess you made.
