Summer Memories Quilt Along Week 1
For the Summer Memories Quilt Along, you’ll need the Summer Memories Quilt & Cross Stitch Book by Susan Ache for the full pattern.
During the next eight weeks, I’ll be sharing two blocks a week from the Summer Picnic quilt. The ninth week will be when I finish the quilt top and finish the quilt.
Summer Memories Quilt Book
The book Summer Memories by Susan Ache has beautiful red, white, and blue quilts and beautiful cross-stitch projects and we are making the Summer Picnic quilt. There are eight different beautiful basket quilt blocks in the quilt.

Tranquil Gardens Artisan Batiks
I was able to choose whatever fabrics I wanted and it shouldn’t surprise you that I picked batiks! The Tranquil Gardens Artisan Batiks have teals and purples that I thought would make a beautiful quilt.
The Tranquil Gardens Artisan Batiks fat quarter bundle has 24 fat quarters in it. I also picked Morning Mist Artisan Batiks Ivory for the background and two of the Tranquil Gardens pieces for the borders and binding. I think this will be a beautiful quilt when finished!
Half Square Triangles
There are lots of tiny 1½-inch half-square triangles in each block and the book includes directions for traditional piecing. Fat Quarter Shop has 1.5″ HST paper Triangles on a roll which makes it very easy to make perfect HST blocks.
I actually used my Electric AccuQuilt cutter and the 1 1/2-inch finished HST die. It took me just minutes to cut out all of them.
Week 1 Quilt Blocks
Each block is made up of four small basket blocks. I am making mine half in purples and the other half in teals.
Don’t you just want to make some of these cute basket blocks! There may be small pieces but the blocks go together easily.
Here is one finished quilt block for week 1.
So far I have two blocks done for the Summer Picnic quilt.

Ahhh, love your fabrics, Connie! Rusty looks so sweet laying is head on Mr. Mickey’s pillow. He looks very peaceful!!
Gorgeous fabric choices for your quilt. I love batiks too, and decided to use batiks on a new project I recently began. The colors and texture of batiks are so rich.
I, too, love the colors you have chosen.
Hi Connie from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario Canada. The colours you have chosen are gorgeous and I can’t wait to see your finished quilt. However I must say I like the block the way it looks in your first picture with out the sashings in the centre part. It would be interesting to see what the quilt would look like in this format. Give Rusty a big hug from me and please keep posting about your & builder Bob adventures.
