Yesterday it rained so guess what I did instead of working on the deck……yep I was able to get this all quilted!
I used the new AccuQuilt Schoolhouse die which is a fun applique piece. It is also on sale right now.
There is a wonderful post on AccuQuilt’s blog that will show you exactly how to cut out the schoolhouse die. This is another project that the photos were on my old computer that crashed. My daughter bought me a layer cake of batiks for my birthday and that is what I used.
The quilt is approximately 44 x 60 so I did my free motion quilting on my 15-91 Singer sewing machine. I used some Aurifil thread that I think is really a blue but matched pretty good with my gray Kona cotton.
My plan was to hang the quilt in this Redbud tree for a couple photos but……
the wind kept knocking it down. Of course now you get to see the back of the quilt.
It was still sprinkling a little but I really like taking the pictures outside. I don’t know if you noticed but….a couple of the schoolhouses are turned the wrong way. This is something I seem to do quite a bit…..forget to make sure I lay the fused fabrics all down the same way on the die. Of course I could just pretend that I “planned” to do it this way.
The backing is one of the fabrics I found on sale a couple weeks ago and I thought it looked cute with all the batiks and gray background.
Don’t forget that there are free patterns you can get too.

Really nice Connie and as many quilters say…the blocks facing the other way are a PDE – Planned Design Element. LOL

That Schoolhouse die is on my wishlist, Connie! I like that you have some of them facing left and some right. Great quilting and that backing is sew pretty!

Haha, I was just thinking while reading and looking at your quilt, how cool is that you can cut reverse images if you place the fabric upside down. I think it's nice you did that! Cute little quilt, Connie!

A lovely quilt, love the blocks and fabric you used, especially the school houses and always admire your quilting skill.

Very pretty Connie. For whatever reason, and I honestly cannot figure out why, I've never been a fan of the houses on quilts, BUT, you just made me a fan with these fabrics you've chosen. Great job. I really like this one.
HA. that darned wind. lol

Sweet quilt!
Love your design decision;)

You did it again. Another gorgeous quilt. I love how the two school houses are different. It shows diversity among school houses. LOL of course I could be reading way too much into it also. Gives the quilt more character.

I have never seen a schoolhouse in Batiks before-it looks great! And I thought you did plan those houses going the other direction-you shouldn't have told us, LOL

I really like the batiks with the grey!

lovely…..like theoposite ones too. love the grey:)

That is a lovely quilt and I agree with Libby and Missy. The schools facing in different directions give the quilt more movement. Good job!!

I like how it turned out with some of the schools facing differently. I love the batiks with the grey background.

I like the reversed school houses, more interesting than everything marching in the same direction. It isn't a mistake; it's a design decision!

I really like the batiks against the grey. It's great having the 2 school houses pointing in the other direction. I never would have guessed it wasn't part of the pattern. After all, some kids like to go out the back door.
Needled Mom
That is really pretty. I love the colors that you used. I didn't even notice the backwards blocks until you pointed it out.

Connie, this is gorgeous! And the school houses look great whichever way they go!
