Rainbow Rail Fence Quilt
I pulled out this quilt top that I pieced some time ago and quilted it on my new longarm quilting machine.
I used a jellyroll of 2½” fabric strips but I can’t remember where or when I bought it.
Quilting Closeup
Here is a closeup of the quilting and also the fabrics. The design on each fabric is the same, a cute little design. I did a little swirl design in the cream center block.
Baby Quilt 48″ x 48″
I was able to make 9 quilt blocks from the jelly roll. There were a few other colors that I didn’t use like black and brown.
A 48″ x 48″ quilt is great for a baby or a lap quilt.
Not Enough Backing
I had this cute butterfly fabric in my stash that worked for the backing. I had to piece the backing and…I miscalculated how long to make the backing and came up short. This was a first for me.
I quilted almost to the end then removed the quilt from my longarm and added the additional 13 inches. I sure hope I don’t do that again!
Binding
For the binding I picked a solid teal Kona solid that I had in my stash. I think it works with the quilt, what do you think? As always I sew my binding by machine.
Lazy Assistants
I now have two assistants that keep an eye on my every move…unless they decide to take a nap.
Rusty is still wondering when the two cats are leaving but thankfully they all get along and ignore each other. Both kitties belong to my granddaughter who is staying with us for a bit.
I make sure to give Rusty lots of attention as Mr. Puff is a very affectionate/needy kitty who also likes to wake me up at 5:30 every morning.

Oh, what a beautiful baby quilt you showed us on the 18th! I absolutely loved all the colors and how you intermingled all of them! Good for you, and don’t worry about having to piece the background….it’s so easy to do when you are concentrating on so many other things….ask me how I know. I like how you put that jellyroll together. I read the fabrics as solid until you did the close up. I love that backing. I have done that a few times and sometimes it is because I turned the backing. Lucky you had more fabric of the same. Just the other day I checked maybe 3 times I was getting it on right. I put the measurements on the back of the fabric (inside of course) with arrows which way it was to go. It’s what we go thru., right?

I like the binding. It compliments the small dots in the butterfly fabric. I too, always bind my quilts on the machine.
It’ starting to get dark much earlier these days. None of us here like the fact that fall and then winter are on their way.

That’s a great design for a rail fence quilt. The stitching looks great. Is that the new machine? I’m sure Rusty is curious as to how long these guests are staying. lol. It sounds like something in that household needs a time adjustment! 5:30 is way too early.
Love the bright colors. Quilt pattern looks EZ to make. Your quilting looks really good. I bet this quilt would look nice in your new fabric line.
