Quilt works in progress and winter in Iowa

I am thinking that every Sunday would be a great time to share things like that, of course, I’ll have to get it out earlier than I am doing today…..like in the morning!
Winter in Iowa
It is snowing here in Iowa again, in fact, it has been snowing all day. Poor little Iggy is covered with snow again! We are supposed to get a big storm on Thursday, hope it misses us! We haven’t had a winter in Iowa like this in a long time!

I have reached the age……some time ago……when I don’t care to have my picture taken but I am going to work on getting over this. I’ve been working with my new camera and even did a couple videos which I won’t be sharing, they were awful! Anyway, here I am with Builder Bob and my Sorbet quilt behind us. Those colors make me want Spring to hurry up and get here!

Now that I’ve shown this photo of me with gray hair I should probably update my profile photo. I still have about 5 inches of blonde left before I’m completely gray.
If you get my newsletter then you already know that I got a new camera and probably saw this cute photo of one of my squirrels. It really isn’t my squirrel….I just feed him when he comes over and looks in the window at me. I took this through our window!

I am working on a couple of projects. This is one using the Check It Out collection from Island Batik. I was doing videos of putting the block together and either I didn’t have everything in the camera area or…..my camera was shaking. I’ll get better!
Quilt works in progress
This inspiration for this quilt project was a quilt block that I made way back in 2012! I remember the fabrics but I have no idea if I ever made anything with the block. There is probably a name for this block but I have no idea what it is, do you?

I pulled out my AccuQuilt GO! Electric Cutter and the 8 inch Qube and used the half square triangle to cut out my pieces.

I have no idea what the name of your block is, but the blue and brown parts remind me of the push pin type things that hold a picture in a wood frame when you want to frame something yourself. They look the same shape.
And did you know gray hair color is currently popular? I imagine some people are dying their hair to get the desired shade of gray, but you (and I) come by it naturally! I used to dye my hair but stopped when I no longer received a steady paycheck. Now I’m a nice blend of gray and black. I’m hoping my gray turns white like my mom’s. But I’d still be happy with all silver/gray!
Cute picture! Good luck with your move!
Hello Connie,
lovely to meet you. I love seeing your projects but my favourite pic here in this blog is that adorable little squirrel.
I just love them & wish we had some here in Australia .I know that for you the snow gets a bit much but here where I am
in north Queensland it’s the tropics & we are having an extremely long hot summer & what i would give for a little bit of cold right now.
Poor Iggy! Is he going to move with you? Love the photo of you and Builder Bob; you are a really cute couple. It’s snowing like crazy here right now, but it’s supposed to turn to sleet and then to rain before the day is over. So glad I don’t need to go anywhere!
Great picture of you and builder Bob! I’m like you I don’t like having my picture taken 🙂 Beautiful block can’t wait to see what you make using it!
Hi Connie, nice to see your and your husband 🙂 I will add i used to live in Des Moines and Ankeny, IA and moved to Texas from Ankeny in 1983. 🙂 I do miss winters and we haven’t had any snow this or last year (miss them snow days too.). Beautiful block-i really need to try and break in my Accuquilt once a month or so…… PS I normally say I’m blonde with gray highlights myself…… ..haha!
Hi Connie! I love seeing posts about what you’re working on and just general stuff. For the life of me I can’t see why you wouldn’t want your photo taken . . . but I don’t enjoy it either. I think your hair looks great – it’s a beautiful color. I tried to stop coloring my hair a couple of years ago, and it was such an ugly gray that I couldn’t do it. I’ll try again when I retire from working in another four years. I didn’t realize you and Builder Bob were in Iowa. Oh boy, you guys have been getting a lot of snow. I am just north of Chicago and have had a few storms miss us to the south. Phew. I have had enough of winter now – bring on Spring! ~smile~ Roseanne
I know what you mean about photos and I applaud your stepping out of your comfort zone. Until I finish losing the 20 something lbs I gained after reinjuring my my hip and steroids I don’t foresee myself sitting still for photos. When I do though, I’m very excited about showing my gray. I love the Qube for cutting and making hst’s.
I love your hair! It’s a gorgeous silvery gray. My hair is in transition. I’m currently a calico 😀 Brown, a few strands of red left and a whole lot of gray. One day I assume I will have long gray hair. I love the natural look. You are a beautiful inspiration. Thank you for sharing!
Great picture of you and Builder Bob!! But I totally understand about not wanting your picture taken…all my pictures look so OLD!!! All I see are the wrinkles and it makes me feel old. The picture of me in my head just doesn’t match at all!
Grey is good and you wear it well.
Connie Dear you look beautiful and very happy. You and Builder Bob are a great couple. I also do not like to see myself in photos however I am eternally grateful for how God made me. Iggy is shivering with all that snow. Even Southern Utah, St. George, is getting snow that is very rare here. I will email you photos. And…it is at least 20 degrees under normal. Brrr…
Keep warm and cozy dear.
Hello Connie, I love the picture you have shared with us of the squirrel! It is a fantastic photo, in my opinion it is worthy of being entered into a contest. I hope that you continue to have fun learning how to use your new camera. I am also one who does not like to have my picture taken. Connie, you look beautiful next to your husband and the quilt is an excellent backdrop (I hope that is the correct term). Even here in Southern Oregon we have been receiving snow and more is expected throughout the week. Of course, we seldom get more than an inch or two on the ground, it is the high mountain areas that get the large snow amounts. LOL. Having been born and raised in Wyoming, when we moved here 30 years ago, we all laughed when they closed the town down basically with that first inch of snow. Now, we still do laugh, we understand that with so many people living high up in the mountains and so many people honestly have never driven on snow. It really is the best choice. Thank you Connie, for always sharing the wonderful posts that you do, no matter what it is about! I enjoy knowing what you are working on, what you are doing in your life and so forth, because I consider you a friend. Have a great day!
It’s a great photo!!! Love!
You still look lovely. From Carole in cool, sunny California
You are so funny Connie! But, I agree with you totally about the pictures, or hoping for the lack of any pictures of myself. I hate getting my picture taken. You can try to get over this thinking, but if you’re anything like me, it won’t work. I will give you one bit of encouragement to move your thinking a little closer to allowing pictures be taken of you (of course we will still grumble when it happens in our minds haha). Just tell yourself you know how much your grandchildren and your own children will love having pictures of Grandma. You know our grandchildren look at us much differently than we do ourselves.
YES! NO more snow! The one doing local weather last week mentioned that we have gotten as much snow in the past 9 days that would normally fall in an entire winter season.
Stay warm Connie!
PS~ This means if we ever get to meet in person that there will be no photo proof of that, right? LOL
I totally understand your reluctance to stand in front of the camera – it doesn’t lie, dang it! But you have nothing to fear – those gray hairs are evidence of a life well lived. You’re in good company!
Hi Connie…I think that a lovely photo of you and Bob, but I know that when we women do reach a certain age, we tend to be our harshest critics, so I truly do understand. At 83, I only allow photos taken at a distance. lol Our weather here in the Chicago area has been just like you are getting, and the ice storms are the worst. We’ve had 3 of them so far, along with all the snow. The Sorbet quilt is so beautiful in that color combination and I imagine you are knee deep in packing boxes by now. I don’t envy you at all.
Connie, that’s a great photo of you with your sweetie! I hate cameras too and rarely take a good photo. This Iowa winter reminds me of winters when I was kid…lots of snow and never-ending! Today will be spent clearing off the driveway and sidewalks again, then heading to my sewing room for some therapy! Enjoy your snowed-in day!
What brand of camera did you get? Love the new block and your Sorbet quilt.
