I had fun making a simple but beautiful quilt using a Peachy Moda Scrap Bag Quilt. Peachy isn’t the name of the scraps

Peachy Moda Scrap Bag Quilt

Peachy isn’t the name of the scrap collection, that is just my name for this quilt.

Quilt

This was a Moda Scrap Bag from Green Fairy Quilts. When I purchased the fat quarter bundle called Curated Blooms by Judi Madsen, I also received this beautiful scrap bag. I just loved the colors in it and shared them in this post.

I kept the dark peach stripe to use as my binding but of course I changed my mind by time I was ready to add the quilt binding. Can you see how the dark green really stands out? I should have known not to use it.

Sewing Strips Together

The strips were 2½ inches by the width of the fabric and I picked 4 different ones to sew together for a width of 8½ inches. Here are a few of them.

Wool Pressing Mats

I am so happy with my large ironing table and both of the Merino Wool pressing mats, I like being able to spread things out.

8 Inch Squares

From the peach batik I cut 8½ inch wide strips the width of the fabric and then sewed this peach strip to one side of the set of 4 – 2½ inch strips.

making blocks

Strip Tube Blocks

When I started to make the blocks, I was going to make them like my Peachy Cream table runner. I made one row of blocks and decided I didn’t like it. Of course I forgot to take a picture but you can see it here at the top of my finished quilt. The blocks were smaller so I added a spacer fabric in the center of the row.

Dark Green

I decided I preferred making simple square blocks instead. Ugh….see that dark green? It has to go!

First Quilt Idea

I thought about making rows in a design like this. I kind of like it and may do it with another set of 2½ inch strips.

Quilt Idea I Like

There is nothing better than a fast and easy quilt! Here is the way I decided to make the quilt. Of course I still had to remove the dark green and also the dark peach.

My Finished Quilt

I had enough fabric to make 6 rows of 6 blocks which made a square quilt. I didn’t want to waste the first blocks and by adding them I ended up with the quilt being 10 inches taller so my quilt was 46 inches by 54 inches.

I ended up using the peach batik for the binding so I still have the dark peach strip for another quilt project.

What do you think?

Lap Quilt

46 inch by 54 inch is a great size for a lap quilt or a baby quilt.

Quilting

I quilted this on my Noltings long arm and used a premium white muslin on the back. The batting is a Hobbs 80/20 cotton.

Quilting

Here is another view of the quilt. If I would have added a 3 or 4 inch border the quilt would have looked beautiful in here. Now it is time to throw it in the wash and give it that crinkly look.

I also just went to Green Fairy Quilts and ordered 2 more Moda Scrap Bags that are 50% off.
