Table runners make great gifts and can also be used in your home to add a touch of color. I just finished the Peachy Cream table runner and I’ll show you how to make it.

This table runner is made one quilt blocks that consists of 2½-inch strips.

Moda Scrap Bags

I recently purchased four Moda Scrap Bags from the Fat Quarter Shop and three of them had the identical fabrics in them. If you missed my unboxing post and video, here it is.

I ended up with enough of these strips to make a table runner.

Peachy Cream Runner Tutorial

You can use yardage to make this table runner.

Fabric:

  • 1/2 yard – Peach print – subcut (6) 2½-inch strips width of fabric
  • 1/4 yard – Light Peach – subcut (2) 2½-inch strips width of fabric
  • 1/2 yard – Cream – subcut (4) 2½-inch strips width of fabric
  • Binding – Cream cut (3) 2½-inch strips width of fabric

Make two sets of each of the strips sets – sew with a 1/4-inch seam allowance and press toward the darkest fabric, a tailor clapper helps set the seams.

Strip Tube Ruler

I used the Cozy Quilt strip tube ruler to cut out my pieces. I have had this ruler for years and it is one of my favorites.

I lined up the ruler to the top of the strip set to get the point. My blocks are 1/4-inch less than the ruler. Cut all of them the same.

Use The 45 Degree Line on Mat Instead

Don’t have that ruler? You can also cut the blocks using your cutting mat or a ruler that has a 45 degree line. Just line up the strip set on the line and cut.

Blocks

Cut (6) blocks from the strips. I was only able to get (5) blocks from a strip which is why I had to make the second set of strips. You will have leftover strips or you could make one more block for a longer table runner.

Bias Edges

Handle carefully when stitching the pieces together as the edges are on the bias and it is easy to stretch your block out of shape.

Sew Blocks Together

Sew the blocks together to make the table runner and arrange them however you like. I turned the center block.

Add Binding

Sew (3) 2½-inch cream strips together end to end to make the binding. Add the binding to the front of the table runner, press toward the back and hold in place with Wonder Clips. I always used to use pins but this is so much faster.

Another really nice design with beautiful colours. My local fabric shop should have fabrics in those tones.
Christmas colours would also look effective for the festive season.
I’m a purple and blue fanatic so that could be an alternative option as well.
Thanks, Connie, for always sharing your latest designs and tips for how to produce a great result.

Another beautiful project showing what can be made with leftover 2.5″ strips or leftover yardage. I have purchased the Moda scrap bags, so will have to find where I put them and try this runner.
    Thank you.

  10. Thanks for this pattern Connie. I think it would make a darling wheelchair lap quilt by adding more blocks, besides making a great table runner.
