Mini Dresden Table Runner

I had fun making a 12-inch x 22-inch Mini Dresden table runner in some beautiful batik fabrics. My neighbor gifted me that beautiful plant.

Jelly Roll Ruler Mini Dresden

Using the Jelly Roll Ruler Mini Dresden ruler made it very easy to cut out the pieces. This ruler fits perfectly on a 2½-inch strip of fabric.

Two at a time

Here is where I am sewing 2 pieces together first. I pressed the seams open.

Piecing the Dresden blocks

Don’t start sewing at the points

I used two different batiks to make my Dresden Plates. Stitch them together with a small stitch length and back stitch using a 1/4-inch seam allowance. I usually start stitching about a half inch from the point and then back-stitch in reverse before completing the seam. This way I don’t have any threads showing at the points.

Making the Dresden Plate sections

Twenty Points

I made 10 mini dresdens of each color. I like to sew two together and then sew them into sections of four. Finally, sew all of them together.

Mini Dresden Wall Hanging

You could use this as a table runner or a wall hanging. I’m using a wire Heart mini quilt holder that I have had for a while. Here is one that is similar.

A peek at the back

I thought you might like to see what the back looks like. I ended up using red thread and also white.

Let me know if you would like to learn how to make the Mini Dresden table runner.

Work Table

I love my big work table which is 4 foot x 6 foot and as you can see….I use the whole thing when I am working.

I just walk around the table to work on different parts of a quilt project. If you missed my Studio Tour, here it is.

Quilt Pattern

You can find the Mini Dresden Quilt pattern PDF in my Shopify store or at Etsy.

Missouri Star Quilt Company

Missouri Star Quilt Co gifted me two Jelly Roll rulers, the Dresden Plate and the Crazy quilt block. I also received the Sew in Love cotton floss pack and Sew in Love peel and stitch pack.

I have a Wish List on MSQ with links to all of these items and also what I used in my Pretty in Pink table topper.

  1. Hello Connie; I love your Dresden Plates.
Although the red one is very Nice and would be great for Valentines Day or Christmas, but I LOVE your YELLOW Dresden Plate.
It looks like the sun (which we have not seen much lately) and screams SPRING.

  2. Those are such sweet Dresdens. The runner turned out beautifully. My work table always looks like a disaster after working on a project. I usually can’t even see the top. Yours looks much neater!

Hi Connie! One of my sisters and I just finished the Quilt Run 101 here in Oregon. 101 is the highway that runs north and south on the Oregon coast. Every year the shops in the towns on this highway have this “Quilt Run”. It is fun and the ladies in the shops are so very friendly and really try to make it a fun time for all. We finished in 4 days and are back home now looking at all our newly purchased fabrics. I really like your table topper. I plan on making one similar so purchased new red and white fabrics. Can hardly wait to get started. Thank you for the inspiration!

It is so adorable. I would love to have the directions/pattern for the Mini Dresden Table Runner. We just built a new house and I finally have an official “sewing room” and fabric closet and love it. Thanks

  5. Love the runner and would love to try to make one. Your sewing room is to dream for. I have to get myself motivated . Our weather is like yours and yes, winter is arriving again today. At least it is staying lighter longer now.

  6. What a nice project!
I’ve been cleaning and organizing in my sewing room while waiting for a burst of sewing energy to hit. It’s looking better so I’m feeling better too.

I’d love to see your mini Dresden tutorial. I think you have a most beautiful studio ever. I’ve become obsessed with finding a Singer 15-91 thanks to you, haha. Love this little mini Dresden ruler they sent you.

    1. Thanks Julie, look on Ebay for a 15-91, I have bought from there before. Make sure the shipping is high, then you know they will pack it carefully. The first time I ordered one the shipping was cheap and….the box fell apart. Ended up using for parts. Look also at the reviews.

  8. Nice project. This would be a good project for all seasons, using different fabrics in seasonal colors. Would also make nice gifts. I have many Dresden rulers and will look as I probably have this one somewhere. I have one by Suzy Quilts but is not as wide as this one. I also have the double-wide one which could probably be used. I’m trying to remember is MSQC made this size in their own brand. I found I have three MSQC Dresden rulers for Layer cakes!

    1. Oh my gosh Beverly I think you have me beat! I have two large drawers of rulers plus the ones that are on my wall and like you many sizes of Dresden rulers. We are collectors!

  9. Deb Estey says:

I would love all directions for the mini dresden table runner. Yours is beautiful!

  10. Louise Ann Johnson says:

Connie! This is adorable! A great way to use up so.e scraps also. Keep those ideas coming. Your table is great. I think know we all like to spread out when working.

  11. That is so cute. I have the
Dresden ruler from Missouri quilt store for a long time, I think it is one of the originals I do like your mini one.
