The maple leaf quilt blocks is very simple to make and uses simple half square triangles and squares.

Make 4 orange/cream half square triangles that are 3½-inches square. Cut out 4 orange 3½-inch squares – three are for the leaf and the fourth one is for the stem.

Cut 2 cream 3-inch squares that will be used for the stem also. Press the cream squares in half diagonally and then stitch them to the orange stem block. Fold back and trim.

  1. Thank you for the tutorial. I love the colors of Fall, but it makes me wonder if anyone has ever made an maple leaf quilt with all the leaves green. Makes me want to try it–starting with the faint light green as the buds appear and going through to the darker green when fully grown or on through the changing colors of the life cycle.

Love the simplicity of this pattern and the colors are so varied – Maples come in so many colors you can’t go wrong! Thanks! Glad Mr. M is enjoying it too!

Connie, I’m having difficulty finding the QAL on the Fat Quarter blog. Can you give me a specific location to find the quilt and blocks others have submitted? Thanks!

  4. Seeing that Maple Leaf block made me think about a quilt I was planning on making for my oldest son. Maybe I will start on it tonight. Better late than never.

  5. Hi Connie! Oddly enough, I j.u.s.t. finished a maple leaf quilt that took about 20 years to complete. I don’t recall why it was set aside, but I sure an happy to have it complete. ~smile~ Roseanne
