Happening in my Studio #11

I spent a lot of time this weekend using my longarm to quilt several quilts.

See the quilts that only the back is showing? Those are quilts for my Fall 2026 Signature collection with Island Batik Lumin Fabrics. I have 2 more I need to finish so I can get them shipped off for their catalog.

I put my June UFO on the wall so there was something there as I couldn’t show the quilt blocks that were up there. I’ll be sharing the two baby quilts soon.

Getting ready to binding a quilt

This is another one of the quilts I can’t show. I’m getting ready to add the binding, working with black thread. Boy do I have a hard time threading the needle with black thread.

I’m having a problem with the tension on my longarm with the top tension not being tight enough. I tightened it 2 time but it wasn’t enough. The quilt looks good from the front, hopefully no one looks at the back.

Rusty asleep

Looks like my “supervisor” is sleeping on the job. This is one of his favorite places to lay.

No cardmaking this week

Would you believe I cancelled our Friday night cardmaking? I think my daughter was shocked but I had so many things in the works and didn’t want to stop. Next week we’ll be back making cards.

Rainbow Rail Fence Quilt tutorial

I pulled out my Rainbow Rail Fence quilt to add some color on my table and also share a tutorial.

Ironing station

I thought it would be fun to share a view of my ironing station. I can’t share my fabric wall as my first Signature collection with Island Batik, Lumin Fabrics is there. Soon I’ll get to share!

Binding

I always add my binding to my quilt by machine. I don’t really enjoy hand sewing that much anymore and when I get to this point with a quilt….I just want it finished.

Squirrel and the feeder

I had fun watching this squirrel try and get into the feeder. Normally the squirrels have no problem getting into them. This poor guy slid down about 3 times and then sat looking at the pole before trying again. He finally made it!

Dove and a squirrel

They say that doves normally eat off of the ground but we have quite a few wide platform feeders and get to enjoy seeing them all the time.

Carrots for the rabbits

We do love our wildlife, lately we have had one or more rabbits visiting. Bob has been buying bags of carrots so he can put a couple out each day. We also found out that the squirrels eat them.

Right before I took this photo, the squirrel was sprawled out in the grass but I wasn’t fast enough with the camera.

  1. You’ll soon be fighting with the wildlife when the garden starts producing. Love the persistence of that squirrel. Our doves eat the seeds under our feeders. It looks nice to see the pop of color in your studio.

  2. Lynne Wells says:

Seeing the squirrels in the feeder, reminded of when I was a teenager, my father placed a wire line between two trees thinking that the wire would be something the squirrels wouldn’t cross. When I came into the kitchen my father was sputtering. I looked out the window and the squirrel was sliding on his belly making his way to the feeder. Thanks for the memory.

  3. I like your rainbow quilt. Such pretty colors. As far as binding is concerned, I haven’t done one by hand for over 10 years. When I first started quilting, I was doing a lot of quilts for QuiltsForKids and they do not want hand stitched binding. I suppose it’s for safety reasons but I’m not really sure. Anyway, I decided I much prefer doing it by machine and since most of my quilts are donated and NONE are entered anywhere near the quilt police, I just continue to do it that way.

    1. I know that Quilts For Kids require machine binding which works for me as that is the way I prefer to do it. I think I have only hand-stitched binding on one quilt…..a long time ago. No quilt police here.

You do beautiful work. I enjoy reading your posts.

  5. Love all the pictures, especially the wildlife. It’s amazing how squirrels manage to get into the feeders. However they need to eat also.

  6. SO MANY WONDERFUL THINGS!!!!!! Starting with the “pets!” We used to say that a big fluffy tail on the squirrel meant a hard winter – but a little early to say that! Rusty doesn’t want to miss any of the action! Looks like there are so many wonderful things happening in the studio and thank you so much for sharing all of this. Thanks again
