I can’t believe how long it has been since I wrote a blog post! Sorry everyone, I know I received several emails from people worried about us. I think I just got in a little funk. I don’t handle change very well as I get older.

Bob and I both have been doing a lot of groaning and dealing with new aches and pains….all we talk about now is NEVER doing a remodel again.

Hopefully, by the time we start on my quilt studio, we’ll have forgotten how much this remodel took out of us!

It isn’t often that we get our picture taken together so I thought I would share this photo taken at our granddaughter’s wedding. Normally we are in work clothes and my hair is pulled back in a ponytail. As Bob would say…..we are quite the hotties!

New House Update

Things are slowly getting done on our house in Maquoketa. When the flooding started at our river house, we had to pull off of the remodeling which put everything behind with the other contractors we had. I am happy to say that sheetrock and painting are all done and we love it! No photos…I forgot to take any.

We have been doing a lot of shopping, we bought all new light fixtures and we are also going to have a master closet with shelves and drawers.

Thank goodness Bob is good at putting stuff like this together! We also bought four new doors that he’ll have to install.

At the moment the flooring is being put down and will be finished next week. Our shower has been tiled and someone will be up next week to measure for our shower door. It will be custom made which will take a couple of weeks.

We still haven’t found a vanity we like for our master bathroom, the big color right now is grey. The search will continue next week.

There was a mistake at first and the flooring wasn’t laid in a staggered pattern so it had to be pulled up. I guess it was pretty ugly. I haven’t seen it yet but Bob says the floor is now beautiful.

The kitchen countertops and sink were held up as the guy who installs the under-counter sink was sick but hopefully, it will be put in next week also. We’re getting close!

The Mississippi River is finally back in its banks and we are hopeful that we have seen the last of the flooding this year. A couple of days ago we finally removed all of the sandbags and the walls that Builder Bob had built.

Then it was time to power wash and clean things up. This is the way our riverfront looks, my brother came over last night and graded it which made it look much better. We’ll have to add some dirt and plant grass but I am amazed that our wall is still there.

Remember all of the quilt photos I have taken in the past using the bell in front for a prop…..the bell fell off but I can see that it is below the wall in the water. It might be time to just remove it.

Mr. Mickey & Miss Sadie

Mr. Mickey finally has his curls back! I can’t believe that it has only been four months since we adopted him in March. He is such a precious little guy and we just love him. Even Sadie has gotten used to him.

Yes, she will still growl at him once in a while but she has figured out that if she watches him, she knows when someone is at the door (she is deaf).

Notice my Accuquilt Musical pillows, Mr. Mickey has decided they are his. He usually sits on the flatter pillow while on the couch.

Dogs Together

Several times we have come home or in the house and find them laying together. We are sure it has to be Sadie’s idea.

It is hard to believe that is has been almost 3 years since Bob found Sadie in a ditch. She bonded with him immediately and he is still number one in her life. She is approximately 13 and we recently found out she has a heart murmur. We are thankful every day that we had such precious dogs.

New Quilt

Believe it or not, I finally started working on a new quilt! It is a super easy pattern and shouldn’t take me long at all…..famous last words!

It is hard to believe that June is almost over! Here is a neat star batik table runner that would look great on your picnic table for the 4th of July. I used my Spinning Star block tutorial to easily make 3 blocks for the table runner.

Maybe I’ll have to start doing an update post every Sunday to let you know what is going on in our lives, what do you think of this?

So good to hear from you. I was wondering what happened I know life gets in the way and we all get busy. Can’t wait to see you sewing room remodel. I know different parts of our country bring different weather hurdles, but I can’t help wondering what the move back from here would bring. Arizona is just so hot! Actually yesterday it was 111 in certain places. Definitely a good day to spend in my sewing room

  4. It’s always nice to see a post from you. You and Bob do look quite dashing; it’s always nice to grab a good photo op. I love the table runner, but there is no way I’ll be making one in time for the 4th – unless we are talking about next year. lol I’m not doing much of anything and seem to have lost my quilting mojo. Hopefully, this is a temporary condition. Have a wonderful 4th. I guess you know about Sadie, but you might want to keep an eye on Mickey as to whether he gets frightened with the fireworks.

Things are coming along. It was just a matter of time with the two dogs. Thank goodness your husband is so handy.Glad to hear the river is going down. I wish it wouild stop reaining here. We keep getting flash flood warnings. And last week we some nice hail. Destroyed our garden. Sigh. Oh well. Hey, I like the idea of eating out too. Have a happy and safe 4th of July week.

    1. So glad to read your updates dear. You and Builder Bob are looking dashing. Great photo indeed. Good news on the receding flooding and all the progress you are making on your new home. Happy to see you sewing and this Island Batik Fabrics quilt will be beautiful. Mr. Mickey is looking very cute with his curls. Sadie is very sweet and I think she likes Mr. Mickey…as long as he remains the First and Foremost Furchild!

Your new sewing room looks so cheerful and inviting. I’m glad to see your River Home has survived the terrible floods and is getting back its beautiful view. I hope the damage was not bad. I love seeing the photos of your dogs too! I hope you and your family all have a very Happy 4th of July

  9. Hello and so good to hear from you! The flooding is always so unsettling. As a child we lived near a river that notoriously flooded. The final straw for my mother was when she lost 120 jars of canned garden goods, and most of our furniture. We were away when the flooding hit. We moved the next week. A remodel is a big deal and hope all falls into place . Your photo with Bob is so darn cute. Thanks for sharing!!!

  10. Good to hear from you, and happy that things are progressing. It’s always a much bigger task than originally thought! Thanks for the update!
