Have you seen the new booklet called Fabrics Panels and Photos that is a complete guide to importing and editing images in Electric Quilt 8?

Fabrics Panels and Photos

Electric Quilt Company sent me two copies of their new booklet called Fabrics, Panels, and Photos so I could review it and also give one away.

Deep Dive Booklet

Have you wanted to add fabrics or photos to your EQ8 software? Lately I have been sublimating a lot using images I have created with AI and my Epson SureColor Sublimation Printer. Here are just a few of the images I have sublimated on fabric to use in my quilting projects.

Sublimation prints

Folk & Lore Fabrics

Recently I got the Folk & Lore fabric collection and this panel. I was able to download the fabric images from the company website and add them to EQ8. I was then able to crop and isolate each image.

Creating a Quilt Design

Here are a couple of ideas of how I could use the panels after creating the design in EQ8.

Floral Quilt

Here is a simple wall hanging that I could make using the floral design. I would have to print several more sublimation copies for this.

Cute Lions

I just worked this up to show how you could make a quilt. For a simple pillow take a look at the Autumn Country House with Pumpkins I showed last year.

Cropping Image

The Fabrics, Panels, and Photos booklet will show you how to crop your image so it will be the correct size for the block you are using it in.

Scanning Images

I used my HP 2742 printer to scan in my images. You don’t need an expensive printer, I think mine cost about $60 and I use their Instant Ink program so I don’t worry about how colorful my prints are.

There is also information on using your phone to photograph your fabrics.

Straighten Images

You will learn how to straighten images that you import to EQ8.

Full-Color Images Booklet

Here you can see how I have straightened the image. There are full-color images throughout the entire booklet to teach you how to add your images.

Add to EQ8

Here are a few of the images I have added to EQ8. Some I put in Photos and others go in Fabrics.

I do not have EQ8 but I would love to add prints to my projects!

  2. Carol Andrews says:

Connie I love the images you uploaded to EQ8. That little lion is just the cutest. I bought EQ8 a couple of years ago but haven’t been able to figure out how to upload images. I haven’t added photos or panels yet either, but I have imported fabric collections. I just keep telling myself it’s just a matter of finding the time to sit down and read and explore and study to get it all figured out.

  3. I have owned EQ for a while. I have uploaded images but have never scanned in my own fabric. I need to learn how to do that. I have been thinking about purchasing this book but haven’t yet.

  4. Mary Foshay says:

I have just purchased EQ 8 and am learning how to navigate the software. This would be a big help, I am sure.

  5. I just recently updated my EQ7 to EQ8 so I could take some classes to learn to use EQ. I would love to have this and learn as I go. I have been quilting since I retired and would consider my work intermediate. Would love to try new designs and learn a new program.
Thank you for all you do.
    Beth

I just love getting your emails and reading your blog. I have EQ8 and I’ve added fabric but I would love to learn how to add a fabric panel. So I would love to win the book. Than you

  7. Deb Doehling says:

I enjoy reading your blog and would love to win the book as I have tried to add fabric but I did not know how to make the proportions of the image.

  8. Hey, that looks like fun! I actually snagged an UNOPENED copy of EQ8 at a yard sale, I think for $5!! I, apparently erroneously, thought EQ was on Version 11 or 12, so, it remains on my shelf, STILL unopened!!! Now that I know it is currently the latest version, maybe this booklet would prod me into opening the box and using the program!!! Ya think?? It looks interesting enough, but, to answer your question, heck no, I’ve never loaded photos into EQ! 😂 I’d love to try it out!!

  9. Those quilt images are amazing. The book sounds like it’s really helpful. I’ve never added images to EQ, but would like to try. Throw my name in the drawing please 🙂

  10. Cheri Johnson says:

Thanks for the chance to win the add on for EQ 8. I am in the
    process of learning EQ 8.

  11. Sara Byman says:

I went through a few rounds of lessons on EQ8 with Kari Shell and I have downloaded some fabric from the EQ8 website before. I would love to have this new add-on to my EQ8 software. Your examples are fabulous and look doable. I would like to try some of the things you showed us.

  12. I do have EQ8, It’s been a while, but I might have tried once to add fabric to an earlier version.

  13. I recently got EQ8. I’m still trying to use it.

  14. Kathy Whetstine says:

I’m still trying to learn how to use EQ 7!

  15. WOW you really knocked this one out of the park! Wonderful! Did some printing on fabric “back in the day” when “June Tailor” (sp) first brought out the packaged fabric but you really blew this away. Thanks!!!!!!

  16. I have only just begun using my Electric Quilt software and have not added any fabric images yet.

  17. I have not imported anything yet into EQ8, I actually just bought it this year! I would always drag out my graph paper and just create with that. Looking forward to being able to create with the EQ8. This is cool to see more that they offer!

  18. Donna Widerquist says:

This looks fantastic! I have never added fabric images but have wanted to try. Thanks for the chance.

  19. Sue Lewin says:

Thanks for this helpful information, Connie. Are the panels you create from photos machine washable? If not, is there any way you know of to create one that is?

  20. Karen Poole says:

I LOVE this!! I do have EQ but it’s an older version.
I have used photos before, but didn’t put them in any software other than my computer photo program and my printer. It took some experimenting to get a layout, I basically made several paper copies and used those in mock ups. Then printed on fabric sheets.
I’ve also used fabric photos to make memory pillows for some families who lost a child. Then I made a Bingo bag for my mom that had pictures of all the family with names placed randomly. She had started to have signs of dementia and also played bingo, so this was a way to bring happiness to her. After she went in to long term care, I was able to get that bag back and still have it.

  21. I didn’t know you could add photos to EQ8 and I love using it. I take lots of landscape photos and it would be awesome to use them in quilts. How do I enter the contest for the booklet?

  22. Darlene Sewista says:

Great review. I’m thrilled to see the EQ Team release this booklet. I love all things EQ8, but this info will be so helpful to many (even me).
I love your sublimation designs too. Way cool.

  23. Michelle F. says:

I have EQ8 but I have not imported images. I have imported fabric but not for a long time. This book would be a great refresher!

  24. Joyce Sochacki says:

I use eq but have never seen this. It looks like it would be very helpful.

  25. I’ve never added images to my quilts, but would love to learn to do it and this book looks like it just might be what I need to learn!!

  26. Don’t have a this software, but would like to learn it. I have seen photo transfers for quilt signatures

  27. Evelyn Johnson says:

I do have EQ8, but have never added images to it using the program. I’ve done at least 8 quilts using photos printed on fabric.

  28. Connie,
Love your blog! Just got the Spooky box too and loved it.
I do have EQ8 and have scanned in fabrics for use in creating a quilt in the program. I am working on becoming more proficient!

  29. Quilting Tangent says:

Yes, I have downloaded my fabric into EQ8. I love seeing how my fabric looks in the projects. Makes it so easy to change things around without cutting into your fabric until your happy with the layout.

  30. Patti James says:

I have never tried adding my own prints to EQ 8. It would be fun to try.

  31. I have downloaded fabric collections from EQ8, but it sounds like this book has more than that in it. It would be a good one for my library.

  32. Crystal Z says:

I’ve always wanted to have a program where I could do my own fabric panels and this sounds like an amazing program! I’ve looked at a couple but didn’t know which direction to go. I’ve followed you for years so this is really exciting to me. 😁

  33. Rita Scott says:

I have not added images to my EQ8 but boy would I like to. The book would be a great addition for a resource to do just that. Thanks for sharing!

  34. Susan Green says:

I have never added my own fabric to EQ. Thank you!

  35. MaryAnn Mairs says:

I have downloaded fabrics from the manufacturers website for use with my EQ8. However, most of my fabrics are OOP CW & 1800’s Reproductions from 2010-2017 and images are not available, this booklet would be very helpful.

  36. Barbara Gifford says:

I have not yet put my fabrics into EQ but with all the panels out there this would be handy.

  37. Lovely ways to use those pictures
