EQ At Home Classes
Recently I had the opportunity to take a EQ8 online class called EQ At Home. Electric Quilt gave me access to the class and asked that I do a review of it.
I have been using Electric Quilt since version 3 – a long time ago. We are on version 8 and it just keeps getting better and better.
I have a wonderful book that came with it and have also bought several books and add-ons. I wasn’t sure if I would learn anything new in this class but I’m happy to say that I did.
What is Electric Quilt 8?
I design almost all of my quilt patterns using Electric Quilt. If you are interested in creating patterns of your own for business or personal, this software will be so much help.
- Design any size of quilt and your own quilt blocks.
- The block library has over 6,700 pre-drawn designs for you to use in your design.
- Calculate yardage including borders.
- Scan and import fabric – I import all of my Island Batik fabrics.
- Export images to use in patterns or blog posts.
25% off EQ8
If you have Electric Quilt and have never really learned how to use it or are thinking about buying it, the EQ At Home would really be a great investment and I would recommend starting with the Beginner class.
I have a coupon good for 25% off EQ8 (including upgrades) at Electric Quilt.com. You must enter the code – EQ8CONNIE
This would a great time to get an upgrade if you have an older version of EQ.
I have really enjoyed taking this class and look forward to taking more of them.
Vintage Flair
This is one of my newest patterns Vintage Flair that I created in EQ8. When I export a image I can choose to hide or show the lines.

EQ8 At Home Classes
When I was first offered the EQ8 Home class I was going to go with #3 Master Skills since I’ve been using it for so long. Now I almost wish I had started with the Beginner class as Jenny’s teaching style is excellent.
We all seem to have a short attention span anymore. There are over 20 segments in the class and they are between 5 to 15 minutes which is perfect. You work along with her on quilt projects.
I learned things that I know are in my books but I skimmed over or forgot.
Randomize
In Segment I: one of the things I learned was to use the Randomize tool and Map to Fabrics option. I have to admit that I have never used it but I will now!
With just a few clicks, I have a completely different looking quilt. I have always just used the Eyedropper tool to change color and fabrics.

Custom Set Layout
This was made in my class using the Feather & Flair batik fabrics.

Panel Quilt
I’ll admit that somewhere along the line I missed the tutorials on using a Panel in a quilt. This was a very good segment of the class.

Thanks for all the inspiration! Those colors are AWESOME! I haven’t done much paper piecing lately (did one a long time ago, Skunk Tail had 82 pieces!) Those Flowers you did are wonderful! Too hot to go out so quilting some “Eye Spy” that someone gave me. Made a quilt for nephew’s new baby – seriously not going outside! LOL
I’m glad you are feeling better. Now I’m sick the last 2 days. The dizziness & lightheadedness are the worse.
I have July, August quilts done. Also the twizzle quilt. I know it’s 2 late, but I thought I send the pictures when I feel better.
When did you get the cat, he is beautiful.
It looks like a fun program. You do so much designing and I can see how beneficial it will be for you. It’s a bonus when you have a teacher that teaches so quickly and well.
So glad you are feeling better. I hope it continues.
