Half Square Triangles

You’ll first make half square triangles and then cut them into pieces.

Binding my Quilt

I always, always add my binding by machine and I am using my 15-91 Singer to do this. Would you believe this sewing machine is 75 years old! It was manufactured the same year I was born.

Feather & Flair

Painted Peaks is made in Feather & Flair by Island Batik from Lumin Fabrics, but this block works with any fabric with good contrast against the background. If your prints read clearly against your background, your peaks will show up beautifully.

Quilt Batting

I am thankful I have a large cutting table that I can use when cutting batting for my quilt. I have also cut batting on the floor but my knees are much happier doing it this way.

Delectable Mountains blocks

Painted Peaks is built from Delectable Mountains blocks, and it looks a lot harder than it is.

Here is the whole idea. You make an 8″ half square triangle. You cut it into four 2″ x 8″ strips. You flip the order of those strips and sew them back together, and you have a peak. Do that four times and you have one 12″ x 15″ block. Sixteen blocks make the quilt.

That is it. No paper piecing, no templates, no set-in seams. Traditional piecing with a 1/4″ seam allowance, start to finish.

Thanks for being you and sharing with us!!!

  2. Beautiful! This is such a fun quilt to make and I love your bright colors. It really wants me to get some bright fabrics and make one.

  3. I love how complicated such a simple design looks. It’s beautiful in your fabrics. Rusty matches so well too. 😂

I love it! Why don’t you have Builder Bob put up a rack for your batting. My handyman put one up for me in my husband’s old workroom. He bolted his metal storage shelves to the wall and made the brackets long enough to hold the roll of batting & I have a 6′ folding table so I can pull out the batting and cut it off where I need too. It’s great, no more lifting except when it’s time to put up a new roll. (2 of my brothers-in-law do that for me)

    1. That would be great Linda but I’m out of room in my big quilt studio so I don’t mind keeping the roll in my storage room. Thankfully batting is light.

  5. Beautiful! Love the bright colors – the quilt looks very difficult but you break it down to such wonderful easy steps even I can do that! And it has the Rusty “Stamp of Approval!”. Enjoy the holiday!

  6. That design always has me thinking Aztec looking. Your fabric choice made lovely mountains!

  7. EZ way to make this configuration of the block which can also be put together in different ways to make other patterns.

  8. Great pattern, and it looks so pretty in your gorgeous fabric line.

  9. Happy Labor Day, Connie. Can’t believe how fast this year is disappearing. Rusty looks pretty happy on that quilt. Love the colors.
