Working on the Brick Road Quilt Pillow Tutorial

In my last newsletter, I shared a photo of Mr. Mickey on the couch with “his” pillow and another pillow that was a forgotten quilt tutorial. When I go through my old posts…..I find all kinds of projects that I need to write tutorials for!

Update: I’m calling this pillow the Brick Road and the tutorial is finished! I even made a table topper in different colors.

Mr. Mickey laying on a pillow

I couldn’t believe how many of you wanted a pattern for this pillow! I figured it would be something fast and easy to write up. Well, I was wrong about that!

I think I spent about three hours searching through photos on my computer looking for pictures of the steps to make this pillow. I never found them (watch, I’ll find them after I finish making the block again).

I know the fabrics are batiks from Island Batik and somewhere there is a quilt made with them.

Anyway, here is a closer look at the pillow. It looks different depending on how you turn it.

Looks different this way doesn’t it?

Back to the tutorial

So I looked at the pillow, measured the blocks and strips and I could have written up a tutorial for it but…..I decided it would be easiest to just make it again.

Remaking the quilt pillow

It is always fun to make a pattern again with different fabrics so that is what I’m doing. These are batiks that I have in my stash.

I know I can’t get it finished today so I thought I would at least let you know I’m working on it and will get it done soon.

What really makes it work is using one print that has various colors in it. Then when you cut the pieces it almost looks like several different prints.

I show you a closeup of the fabric, perfect for fall!

I’m being watched

While I was outside taking the pictures I had someone something watching me…..a squirrel! We have all kinds of them around.

Of course, putting corn out might encourage them to visit. They are so much fun to watch and they love to tease Mr. Mickey when we go on walks.

I am not surprised people want a pattern. It is a great pillow and very effective!

  2. That pillow is so winter looking in that photo. The colors are just beautiful together. I hope Mickey continues to do better. Those are worrisome days, and nights! I recognized your pretty Easy Street right away.

Is that ice on a river in your quilt photo?

    1. It is Katrina, that is the Mississippi river here in Iowa. I took that photo several years ago. We don’t have any ice yet this year.
