Winter Wonderland Sew Along

Winter Wonderland Sew Along

Happy Saturday everyone! Have you been following along with the fun during the  Winter Wonderland Sew Along with the Fat Quarter Shop. It is with Sherri Falls of This & That Patterns and we’re all sewing up the Sleigh Bell Sampler from her first book with It’s Sew Emma, Winter Wonderland.

Winter Wonderland Book by Sherri Falls

The block I did is the House Block which is so darn cute! You might not even know it is in the book as it is hidden behind the Christmas tree on the cover.

Here is a picture of the block and……

here is mine! I think this is the cutest pattern in the whole book!

I made a couple other blocks using a collection of Christmas fabric called Jovial I have had for a while. If you go to my tutorial page, you’ll find the fabrics used in several things.

I just had to make a couple houses out of batiks too. The book has twelve different projects and twelve different blocks with color photos of everything. Be sure and visit Fat Quarter Shop’s blog and see the other quilt blocks.

  2. I've debated SO many times at buying that Winter Wonderland book, and now you're posting about it? That really makes it even harder to ignore now that you are doing one of the quilts from the book too? Darn. You KNOW I do not have time which was why I've been trying to ignore it. LOL I just know I'm going to break down. In fact earlier today while checking out the Flash Sale and not wanting to buy just that one item, I actually looked at the Winter Wonderland book again, but decided to not get anything today.

As far as thread, I love so many of the Aurifil colors, especially the Dusty Blue Violet #MK50-2525. But as much as I like that one, I don't have that or many of the other pretty colors I like so much. I've been buying those which would be best for piecing on any fabric rather than selected one. For that I've got a few, but the one I use most of the time is either White, or the Grey MK50-2605.

Maybe I'll win and then I can pick the pretty colors I want but haven't bought yet.

  3. Your blocks for the Winter Wonderland Sew Along are lovely! Light Sand and Dove are two of my favorite "go to" Aurifil colors – but it always seems like the latest one I add to my small collection becomes my favorite.

  4. Light sand is my favorite since it's so versatile but it seems so boring. I think I need to try some wild new colors. Lovely house blocks.Karen kthurn(at)bektel(dot)com

  5. Ohhh the houses are adorable! I wish I could join more QALs but I'm finishing up what I have going on and don't want to start anything new until the new year 🙂

  6. I love Aurifil colors, so vibrant. I ususally use 2310, light beige or 2610, light blue grey for piecing, but 2110, light lemon looks yummy.

  7. For 90% of my piecing, I use 50 wt white-2024. Just tried 40wt to FMQ in black, and I LOVE it! Ordered olive green and wine 40 wt for my Christmas project quilting.

  8. Your house block is wonderful! Aurifill Arctic Ice is my favorite at this time. LOL. I have been picking out grey for everything lately. It is a fabulous color that will blend with almost everything. Thank you for the chance to win this prize. Have a wonderful creative day!

  10. Connie, all your creations are beautiful! Now I just need more time with my sewing machine to make my version of your table runners & placemats. Keep the creativity coming our way. I enjoy reading your emails, you are very inspiring 😉

  11. That is adorable. I want to make a table runner of the cup block and something with just the ornament block.

I really like the Storm at Sea verigated thread though I know that in reality I would use White the most.

  12. I really love the butter thread or maybe salmon.

They are all really lovely and there are so many great colors.

  13. I add lime green fabrics to many of my creations, so I'd choose Spring Green Aurifil thread to be my favorite! (Keeping my fingers and toes crossed to win one of your gracious giveaways!)

  14. This is one of the cutest houses I've seen. I love the bottom of the roof. I haven't used Aurifil yet, I tend to use neutral colors.

  15. I haven't used Aurifil before either…would try the Butter, or maybe Muslin color first. BUT definitely LOVE all the Variegated colors!! Bet they are Amazing to use!! (couldn't pick just one! lol) Thanks too, for chance to win!!

  16. Seems sad, but White is my favorite color for piecing. I too often tend to use a white background on my quilts. Although right now I'm doing one on grey background and one on a red background, yeah me! cdahlgren at live dot com.

  17. I like the Light Sand color because that is what I use most often when I quilt my quilts. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  18. I have just begun using Aurifil and I love it! No. 2310 is perfect for piecing. Thank you for the chance to add to my new collection.

  19. Very cute house blocks. Christmas is coming quickly. I do not know the color as I have yet to try Aurifil but I did buy a lovely light grey color. Thank you for the chance to win some Aurifil thread.

  20. Such a cute block!

The color I would use the most is light grey but the color I love the est is Pink Blossom! So pretty!!

Thanks for the chance to win!

  21. Your blocks are lovely! My favorite color of thread is the sand color. It just so great for piecing almost any color. Thanks for the chance on your giveaway!

  22. I love all the Aurifil colors but Muslin is favorite go-to for piecing and quilting. Your house blocks are delightful Connie! Thanks for sharing.

  23. My favorite color is #5020, a gray-green that blends well with all medium-to-dark colors. If I can't piece it with a cream or light tan, 5020 is my go-to color.

  24. Your little houses are so so cute! I use Dove 2600 the most because it's such a great blender for piecing but I'm definitely crushing in Turquoise 2810
