Vintage Christmas QAL January Blocks
This is going to be a fun QAL using Lori Holt’s book Vintage Christmas. I think this book came out in 2016 and I happened to have it in my book collection.
The Fat Quarter Shop sent me the Vintage Christmas kit to use for the QAL. I also had some charm packs of her Hometown Holiday collection that I am also using.

January Block One
When I started making the quilt blocks, I didn’t pay attention to the leaflet that came with the kit. I wondered what the tan fabric was for but I went ahead and used a green print I had of Lori Holts.
The book showed to embroider the rays from the star. As you can see, my embroidery is terrible. After I made the first 3 quilt blocks I realized what the tan fabric was for so I redid the blocks. When I saw Kimberly Jolly say she wasn’t adding the embroidery I thought she had a great idea!
Alphabitties
I use my Wonder clips to attach the Alphabitties to my pieces.
January Block Two
The candy canes in block two were fun to make. All of the blocks are 6 1/2 inch unfinished blocks.
Save this for later!
Don't worry, I promise not to spam you.
January Block Three
Block three was the candles blocks and there were lots of small pieces!
I normally don’t use starch but on these small blocks, I did! My blocks aren’t perfect but once they are in the quilt the small imperfections hopefully won’t be noticed.
Tiny Pieces
There were lots of small pieces! The smallest blocks were 3/4 inch squares! Using the Alphabitties really helped.
January Block Four
Block four was a piece of cake after making the other ones! I chose a different background fabric for my blocks. It is by Lori Holt and is a small dot print.
I normally don’t use starch but on these small blocks, I did! My blocks aren’t perfect but once they are in the quilt the small imperfections hopefully won’t be noticed.
January Blocks
What do you think of the Vintage Christmas QAL and the January quilt blocks? If you make 4 blocks a month, by next Christmas you’ll have enough for the Vintage Christmas Quilt! Learn more about that at the Vintage Christmas Quilt Along.

So cute and thanks for publishing so early – it takes me forever to finish anything these days! Your timely tips are so welcome and your photos are so good! Hope the year is starting out wonderful for you and yours!
I love your blocks. I agree that the small pieces are a challenge to do, but your looks great. Having a month to make four blocks is great. Can’t wait to see your finished top.
I am participating in this Quilt Along, also, since I purchased this book years ago. I agree, these pieces are very small. I’m still debating about doing the embroidery. I like how we have a whole month to finish 4 blocks. Your blocks turned out very cute! It will be fun to have a quilt top done before next Christmas.
Ohhhh I love this! You do tempt me! Your blocks look great and I love the fabric you are using!
Loved seeing your in-process pieces. It is much closer to what mine look like than the accucut pieces and is very encouraging. Looking forward to more blocks!
Those are really cute, Connie. I love her fabric and patterns too! Have fun!
