Twizzle

I think Twizzle is a cute name for this rainbow half square triangle quilt which was fun and easy to make.

Blooming Day & Night by Jason Yenter

This is the Blooming Day & Night by Jason Yenter fat quarter bundle and also background yardage of Tula Pink’s True Colors – Fairy Dust White that Missouri Star sent me to make this quilt project.

I ended up being a little short on the Tula Pink Fairy Dust White (I wasn’t sure what I was going to make) so I ordered another 2 yards. I really didn’t need that much but it is such a cute print and I still have more of the Blooming Day & Night collection so I might make a pillow or even some placemats.

I used every single color in the collection other than the very light blue, that one just didn’t work.

Accuquilt Cutting

When I’m going to be using a lot of half square triangles, I like to cut them out with my Accuquilt cutting machine. I am using the GO! Qube Mix & Match 8″ Block and the 4″ finished die from that set.

Making the HSTs

You can also cut them this way. Missouri Star sent me this 10″ rotating cutting mat called Hilda which is very useful for trimming the HST squares.

  • Cut a 5-inch square of one of the colors and one of the Fairy Dust White background fabric.
  • Place the fabrics right sides together.
  • Draw a cutting line diagonally through the center.
  • Sew a scant 1/4-inch on both sides of the line.
  • Cut apart.
  • Use a ruler with a 45 degree line to trim your HSTs.

Sewing the HSTs

It was fast sewing the HSTs (half square triangles) that I cut with my Accuquilt cutter and I didn’t have trim them at all.

Quilt Size 56″ x 72″

56 x 72 is a nice lap size quilt or great for a twin size bed. Here it is on a full size bed.

Braving the Cold

It was a little chilly outside but Builder Bob was game to hold the quilt for me.

My plan is to get this pattern written soon, I hope you like the quilt and thank you Missouri Star Quilt Co. for sending me the fabrics! #msqcshowandtell, #msqcpartner

Quilted on my 15-91 Singer

I mentioned that my Nolting longarm needed some work so I ended up freemotion quilting this quilt on my vintage 15-91 Singer. I used to do all of my quilts this way. Yesterday we took my longarm to Nolting in Hiawatha, IA, got it fixed and….I bought a new longarm! It will be here in two months, I’m excited!

  13. Often see one of your quilts, love the design and would like to have it sized for a baby/toddler. I could stare at the screen and try to count squares, rows and columns but sincerely would appreciate it if you could give us a hand. Thank you

  14. beautiful quilt. thanks for the inspiration

Congrats on the new longarm! The finished quilt is really pretty . Your new organized sewing room has inspired me . I’m going to get rid of some big armoire/cabinets and put shelves on the wall and then counter high open shelving cabinet/bookcase . I need to see what I have . Eliminating the 2large cabinets and adding shelves and short bookcase I can now have a pressing area by my cutting table . The hubby is going to put the shelves up for me and had already made a large pegboard area for things . I’m just not happy with the bulky cabinets /old armoire’s so a re-do where I can see my fabric and get to thing’s easily will be much better. Thanks for your inspiration with your work room 😉

    1. Thank you Carol and how exciting to have all of those changes coming to your sewing room. I don’t do well with cupboards with doors, I tend to forget what is in there. I think you will love being able to see everything. I would love to see photos when you are finished.

  16. I really like this colorful quilt. It is such a nice size too, not too big and not too small! How exciting to get a new long-arm!

  22. Such a cute and cheery quilt! I love how the Tula background pulls the rich colors of the focus fabric together. CONGRATULATIONS on the new Nolting!! Super exciting, I’m sure.

  23. Kathleen T says:

Lovely and a nice size too! I have used that background fabric and it’s always a winner however one uses it.

Congrats on your new machine and hopefully it will put the fun back into doing long arm quilting!

  24. I really like that! That fabric is fabulous, such a great quilt for spring.

  25. Love the quilt. The colors are so cheery and bright after the cold winter. A nice Spring/Easter quilt. Looks difficult, but seeing the HST construction proves it is indeed EZ to make.
Congratulations on your in-progress new quilting machine. Hope this will be a quilting blessing for you.
