During November the Island Batik ambassadors are taking part in a blog hop and sharing quilts made with the latest collections from Island Batik and use at least 5 of traditional quilt blocks chosen by Island Batik.

Garden Gate Collection
I really enjoyed this challenge and made a Row by Row quilt using the Summer 2025 Garden Gate collection by Kate Colleran Designs for Island Batik. I had a bundle of 1/2 yard pieces, I also used the 2 yards of white dot for my background.

Row by Row Quilt Blocks
A row by row quilt is a great way for a beginner to practice making quilt blocks. I used my favorite software for quilting called Electric Quilt 8 to help me design my quilt. Electric Quilt is having a Black Friday sale and it is 25% off right now.

Here is the quilt with the rows going up and down. I like that look also.

Quilting on my longarm
I had the backing on my longarm and then loaded the Hobbs cotton batting and the quilt top. I normally load the backing and roll it to the front and then to the back. For some crazy reason I forgot to roll all of the fabric to the back and started quilting. When it was time to roll the quilt and start the next area….I realized I was at the end of my backing fabric.
I had to remove the quilt, cut the backing and sew it back on and then put the quilt on the frame again. That was a first for me!
I used a Hobbs 80/20 bleached cotton batting and a white solid batik for the backing. I also use Aurifil 50wt thread for all of my piecing.

My Quilt Blocks
Here is a closer look at the quilt blocks I used in my quilt:
Four Patch quilt block

Flying Geese quilt block

Quarter Square Triangle quilt block

Ohio Star quilt block

Pinwheel Variation quilt block

Friendship Star Variation quilt block

Quilt size 55″ x 67″
The quilt size is 55 inches by 67 inches and is a great size for a lap quilt. Here it is on a full-size bed. To make it wider would be to just add more blocks to each row or add larger borders.

Rusty Approval
Of course I had to have Rusty checkout the quilt. I think he likes it!
If you would interested in either a Quilt Along or pattern for this quilt please let me know.

Garden Bloom
Be sure to visit Quilting Gail to see the quilt she made with the same beautiful collection of batiks.

Really like your “sampler” quilt in the rows and would like to see directions for the blocks….I don’t have Accu-Quilt!
I love this quilt. I didn’t know what a row quilt was or what to expect. When I saw this quilt I fell in love with it! It’s beautiful! Thanks for teaching this old dog a new trick! 🥰♥️
Beautiful! I especially like your mixing of different blocks within a row. It’s a winner! Would make an excellent teaching quilt.
Beautiful, Connie! So glad it’s Rusty-approved too! He looks a little like, Gee mom – we doing this again?! LOL
I love the row quilt. Where can I purchase the pattern?
That is a beautiful quilt and good colors for Rusty!
Brilliant idea to use the various blocks in a row by row quilt. Those fabrics are so pretty and it turned out beautifully. Of course Rusty is pleased. He’s the perfect quilt model.
Hello Connie!
I love the blog hop quilt! I am a beginner & would like to make the quilt. Do you have a pattern for this quilt? Thank you.
I love the design and colors in this quilt! Thanks for sharing!
I love your quilt, the colors you used, they compliment each other. So beautiful!
The row quilt looks amazing and the Garden Gate fabrics really set it off nicely. Rusty looks like he gives his approval as well. Thanks, Connie, for all your posts and inspiration. It has really helped me in my quilting venture. Rosalie
That is beautiful. It made me think of spring rain. That is one of the prettiest fabric lines.
Thanks so much Connie, I love getting you blog and have purchased a a few of your patterns. Your instruction are perfect! Today I went into the “Library” and found just the blocks I need to fix a Machine Embroidery pattern that isn’t working. Blocks for the pinwheel xmas runner will work much better with my embroidered snowmen & snow girl. Have a wonderful day!

I’ve never made a row by row quilt but would love to make this one. A quilt along would be a fun project.
Lovely quilt. Good idea for orphan blocks. Hope you, Builder Bob and Rusty are staying warm. Didn’t know if you got snow from the latest Artic freeze.
So pretty! What a nice sampler quilt. And Rusty approved!
Beautiful quilt Connie.
Great idea to do a row quilt with those blocks!
